Watch your order! - Edit
They were busy. Food is delicious but noticed they make LOTS of mistakes in taking and filling orders (which they fix if you notice). Brought my food with chicken when I ordered vegan. The spuce bags are the most popular item but WOW are they salty!
Read morePros: Food was great. , Locally popular. , Reasonable prices.
Cons: Errors in orders. , Not much seating. , Too much salt in spice bag.

Lovely spice bag - Edit
I opted for this place to be my introduction to the spice bag when visiting Dublin as it wasn’t just filled with veggies like the other vegan alternatives. I thoroughly enjoyed it, a lovely treat.

Great vegan dish but low regard for vegans - Edit
The noodles were great, but clearly made with frozen veggies. And we found out that a dish served on a previous visit was not vegan, which showed very low regards for vegan customers. We were told only the sweet potato and bean noodles were vegan, since the others contain eggs. The vegan duck was made with seitan and was quite good.

NOT VEGAN FRIENDLY - Edit
This place has a great reputation, the food seemed really nice, so I was excited to go try it out. Unfortunately, even though I ordered a vegan dish (which they specifically offer in their menu) and after making sure they understood my order correctly and that I'm vegan, I was served a dish that contained duck meat. I only realised this after the first bite, as the dish I ordered was meant to contain a vegan meat alternative. I want to specify that it was confirmed in the end that the dish actually contained meat and that I was given a full refund, which was appreciated but doesn't take away from the damage caused. The inclusion of meat in supposedly vegan dishes has also happened to other vegetarian and vegan people I know, and I hope that Xian will take better care of how they handle their ingredients.

Delicious spice bags but consistent(!) mistakes - Edit
Over the past maybe 9 months I'd say I've gotten at least 8 tofu spice bags from Xi'an, from both the premises on Anne street and just off Grafton Street. Of these seven, in two of them I found a piece of battered chicken at the bottom while in a third, the entire bottom half of the spice bag was chicken (which I only discovered after starting to eat it 7 km away from the restaurant). Every time I've given the benefit of the doubt but such consistent mistake making is fairly appalling. While the regular chicken spice bag option contains egg, I have been assured on two separate occasions by staff that the tofu spice bag is indeed vegan, although this is not stated explicitly on the menu.
Read moreThat being said, the tofu spice bag is large, filling, delicious and is perfect for a night out (€8.50). I have had their spice bags both take away and in-house and every time except one (soggy chips, the same one which had tons of chicken in it), they were delicious. Funnily enough, in the Anne Street Xi'an you get falafel along with your tofu spice bag while in the one off Grafton street, you just get tofu.
The mistakes are understandably deal breaking for some but the tofu spice bags keep pulling me back and in terms of portions you definitely get bang for your buck. For what it's worth, these mistakes only happened in the Xi'an just off Grafton St, I have had no issues with the Anne St one.

Specify no meat for all dishes - Edit
Even when ordering the tofu dish, make sure to specify no meat. They will tell you off if you send the dish back complaining that there’s meat in your vegan meal.

Got meat when asking for vegetarian - Edit
We ordered a dish that's normally with beef, mapo tofu, and asked if they could make it vegetarian. The waitress complied and it was also clearly marked as vegetarian on the bill. After waiting for a bit we got the dish, and the noodle salad from the "vegan menu" we also ordered, more on that later.
Read moreWe ate a small part of the mapo tofu before discovering, to our shock, that there were some chunks of beef in it! You can see it in the picture if you look closely, there are small brown pieces of animal corpse in it. It was like they made the normal dish but just scooped the beef out at the end. After bringing the dish back to the waitress and telling her that there was still meat in it we got an apology and after some minutes a new dish, which somehow was a lot saltier.
The noodle salad we ordered from the "vegan menu" had eggs as an allergen, and the consistency of the noodles was suspiciously like egg noodles. Noodles made purely from wheat are usually a bit more chewy when they are the same thickness...

Great value - Edit
I love the rice noodle salad (warm) here, it's really more of a hot noodle soup and very good value at only €5. I can rarely finish it but it reheats well!

Best 3in1 with Satay Sauce - Edit
Haven't had anything else but it seems pretty solid for veg options. Some of the allergy markers can be wrong on the menu.
