Best food in the world

The review title might seem like a slight exaggeration, but please go to this place and judge for yourself. The food is absolutely delicious and definitely among the best I have ever had. Beautifully presented, tasty, and very friendly staff. I want to move to Madrid so I can go here every day...

Unwelcoming

After reading all the good reviews, I was excited about this place. However, when I entered I just stood there waiting for several minutes for a server to acknowledge me. Eventually I just sat myself at an empty table but then one came by and told me it was reserved so would I mind sitting at the bar. I then waited another couple minutes for him to sit me at the bar. Then when I asked very simple a question about the menu, I told he'd be with me in a moment. After several more minutes of waiting I just walked out. Maybe the food's amazing (although the menu wasn't very big) but in my experience the service was terrible.

Enjoyed - great tasting

We came here for a meal in the evening. It was very busy and the atmosphere nice. We shared a mix of plates - some were better that others. The lasagne was nice but there wasn't very much of it so didn't seem very good value, we had some patatas asadas which were more filling, and then we shared a seitan dish which was really really good. I'd go back.

Pros: Tasty food, Good atmosphere, Staff helpful

Cons: Some dishes not good value, Quanitites were a bit small

elegant food, healthy potions, charming staff

The Chef is an artist. You'll see. It almost feels like the Servers are part owners. Best service we have received in Spain and we've been here 3 times now. The food will blow you away. Come hungry, try EVERYTHING and be sure to leave room for dessert. 6 stars!

Pros: efficient operation, friendly/funny staff, beer/wine/sangria/coffee/tea/juice

6/5, incredible

Really great place. The food is absolutely delicious, the staff friendly (speak English as well as Spanish) and the atmosphere great. Note that the kitchen doesn't open until 8:30pm, at least on a Wednesday. All the food we tried was delicious, would recommend it all. At the standard vegan food joint price.

Pros: super delicious food, friendly staff and great atmosphere, fast service

Lovely tapas!

Cute atmosphere, tasty food, and great service make this a lovely little cafe. I enjoyed the tomato soup (which was clearly braised and therefore so packed with flavour it made me wonder how to improve the one I cook at home!) and three of the starters. Unfortunately, two of the three I chose weren't available, so I had to have two I wasn't so keen on.

The first was seaweed salad, which was unfortunately too seaweedy and lacking in balancing flavours, the roasted veg, which were ok but nothing special, and the almonds in smoked paprika oil, which was life-changing and which I could've eaten kilos of. So much yum.

There was also a great range of tea, coffee, juices, smoothies, and cocktails available, as well as tasty-looking desserts.

The staff were just lovely- very helpful, friendly, and kind. They seemed busy but we're still able to provide great service.

The only con was that, like so many places in Spain, the kitchen doesn't open til late (8.30pm), so I missed out on enjoying some of the delicious-sounding cooked food.

I found Vega easy to find, and it's just around the corner from a bustling little plaza and near some other great attractions.

Big bonus for being 100% cruelty free!

Pros: 100% vegan Spanish food, The mouthwatering almonds in smoked paprika oil, Good value for money and lovely staff

Cons: Some food unavailable , Seaweed salad not particularly nice

Great Vegan Tapas!

Really enjoyed eating at this bar/restaurant place on a recent visit to Madrid. We went at around 10pm one night and it was busy and lively. Our server was incredibly friendly and helpful, and spoke great English. We ordered several tapas dishes - tomatoes in oil, potatoes, mushroom croquettes, beetroot hummus, cucumber & chilli, fresh bread - and it was truly delicious. We had a really relaxed evening, and at no point felt rushed, despite how busy the place was. The interior was very cool and the place had a great vibe. The price was medium. Would definitely recommend!

Pros: Great food, Nice atmosphere, Helpful staff

nice place for quick and inexpensive bite

VEGA is centrally set small place with nice food, quite cheap in set manner as they serve set lunches throughout the week. Portions are very modest but for some vegans seemed enough. We had little miso soup served in a capuccino cup, then tempeh skewers ( tempeh was too dry for our taste) with baked patato wedges (3 wedges) and bowl of dhal which we shared, and 1cm thin slice of banana bread for dessert. We payed under 20 euro with coffee. The place was very busy during lunch hours the longest wait was for the waiter to bring us a bill. As we have lots other places to try out so we had just one meal in VEGA.

Pros: good value, good vibe, friendly staff

Cons: small portions, dry tempeh

Friendly service....but a bit pricey

This takes a bit of looking to find because it is down a dimly lit road. Could do with better signage. The staff are very friendly here and are prompt to take orders. The food is very tasty and there are many choices. Unfortunately, however, portions are quite small. Just because we are vegan, it doesn't mean we eat tiny portions. Also, bread should be supplied with all the dips and soups. The only part of the meal I didn't particular find great were the desserts. A clean empty plate would also be nice to have to place our food on when sharing, etc. Everything was very tasty, particularly the Chill con 'carne', but it's a bit on the pricey side.

Pros: Friendly staff, Good choice, Tasty food

Cons: No bread supplied with dips or soup, No empty plates supplied, A bit pricey

Great late night spot

We arrived at our hotel at 10pm and wanted some food - Happy Cow led us here and it was perfect. It's a great cozy space in a nice neighbourhood with other bars and restaurants nearby. The staff are really friendly and have good taste in music. They have a great selection of local beers, including some organic ones. The food was amazing, we ordered way too many dishes just to try everything. The portions are pretty large. The lasagna was our favourite, the sauces are great. They close at 1am but it was still busy and lively at midnight on a Tuesday.

Pros: Open late!, Location

Friendly service + good vegan food in hip district

Had a wonderful little lunch with 3 friends here. Good location, central, easy-to-find and the restaurant itself has a relaxed ambience. Friendly service. I thoroughly enjoyed my veggie roast dish and my friend loved her soup. They forgot to charge us for an item and when I pointed it out to them, they offered us free shots as a show of thanks. Recommended!

Pros: Good food, Good location, Friendly staff

Inspiring and soo good food

A small restaurants with a little bar where you can take something to drink before you get you table. You can see into the kitchen trough a big glas window which makes it feel real and cosy. You don't have to wait long time to get your food.

Been there three times and there's always people. If you're more than two and you plan on going there in the earning, book ahead.

The food is so good, simple but with something exciting. The staff is very nice.

Visit lunch time, it's cheaper to buy the daily. 3 courses, so worth the money. Think it cost around 10 euros. Well, very glad I found a 100% vegan restaurant in Madrid.

Pros: Good inspiring food, Cosy restaurant, Beautiful staff

Delicious

We ordered a lasagne and a curry with home made lemonade. The carrot humus tapa while waiting was very tasteful. Our main dishes were simply delicious. This a top address for vegan food in Madrid.

Perfect

First time i went to Vega, i arrived 20 minutes before they opened for dinner, but while i waited i got a nice glass of beer. The staff was so nice and friendly. I was in Madrid by my self, so it was nice to talk with such lovely people. I ordered the burger, and i tell you, this was the most delicius burger i have ever had! - my stubburness tells me it wasn't better than my own - but it was.
Their coffeelatte was great to, and the place was very cozy and a place you feel safe and happy!
Everybody should go to vega

Pros: Lovely staff, Excellent food, so cozy

Generally Really Tasty Food!

Nice atmosphere, fairly friendly staff. The place got really busy while we were there and we had to wait quite long. Although the wasabi peanuts were old, the beet humous was delicious. As a main: a delicious burger, and very nice (but salty) seitan.
And the desert: I thought I was in apple crumble heaven!

Pros: Desert!!, Beet Humous, Decent Price

Cons: Staff Seemed Unfriendly, Peanuts Were Really Old

So-so

Well, I have mixed feelings about this place... The cold leek and potato soup was all right, and the focaccia with mushrooms and more was quite interesting.. the dessert, some coconut and cacao mousse, was average though. All in all, it was a fine lunch with very polite service...
My objections have more to do with Vega´s philosophy, as they call for a "vegan revolution" on the Internet, yet they are apparently non-vegan themselves. More serious is the fact that they purport their ingredients to be organic, but according to a source who is "in the know" that is sadly not the case. They did have a few items on display which were suitably labeled as organic, but during my lunch a supplier showed up, and the boxes that were delivered were not organic as far as I could see. I didn´t feel more reassured after they, just a couple of months ago, get a question on their facebook with regard to a dish, whether all ingredients in it are organic. They answer with a straightforward yes, but at least one of them, hoisin sauce, is not even available as organic, at least to my knowledge. So yeah, to cut a long story short, if it seems too cheap to be true, then it's probably just not (entirely) true.

Firstable, we want to make clear to you and to anyone who come to eat at Vega that the products we use for our food are organic, although sometimes this is not possible to do it with certified products at 100%, as happen with the hoisin sauce. We use this sauce with the brochettes made with smoked tofu, vegetables, noodles and seaweed, and all this ingredients are certified organic.

We are very serious about the products we use in our kitchen and, as far as we can, we only buy organic products. I would say that our food is 99% organic but a few exceptions.I invite you to come and check our products by yourself, seeing their origin. I am sure that it will be more accurate than a quick look to any boxes. We love facts and don´t like false beleifs. Of course we invite your friend who is “in the know” to come as well to check it out and whoever feel like checking our products. We have nothing to hide and a lot to show and share with others.

Second thing, it´s about our personal food options. The most important thing is that we are a vegan restaurant and this is a decision we made the 3 persons who set up Vega. But I don’t mind to tell you that one of this 3 has been strictly vegan for ages, other one is vegetarian and the other one is more flexible about what he eats. But we share the idea of taking responsibility about what we eat and to be aware about it. A vegan and organic restaurant was our choose. We are relaxed people and we don´t ask for any Vegan ID to our staff or clients. Anyway it is quite curious you take the time to find out about our personal food preferences.

We are not calling to any vegan revolution in internet, the revolution is already here. Our intention is to be part of it just setting up a good restaurant with good food, good service and good atmosphere. And it seems, by the public response, that we are doing it.

Complete menu with different options

I don't eat Soja nor Tofu do sometimes it's quite difficult. But here I could choose a pre-coarse, main dish and dessert with out Soja. And it was delicious. Maybe a bit expensive but it wouldn't have the same quality if it was cheaper. Do try the Jamaican water!

Pros: Good variety, Great taste and presentation, Nice place

Awesome spot!

We ate here on our last night in Madrid. We were going to visit a raw food place, which turned out to be closed. This was the amazing alternative.

Just seconds off the Gran Via is this cozy place with excellent food. I had a amazing tomato garpazio with cashew pesto and rucola. Some veggie tapas with beetroot hummus. And as a main a scrumptious tofu/chickpea burger. The chocolate mousse was a joy aswell.

Staff was so nice and gave us some limoncello as a treat!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Pros: Tastebud explosions, Friendly English speaking staff, Very cozy and chill vibe

Cons: I cannot eat here everyday, Because it too far from Amsterdam :)

Cool place with delicious homemade food!

The place is very cosy and the food delicious!
You can go there to have some tapas and a fresh juice or an organic/vegan beer.
As a main dish I tried the "kebab" which was made with homemde seitan and delicious Frech fries!
They also offer a few desserts; the chocolate mousse is heaven!
The atmospheres is very relaxed and the staff friendly!
Be aware that it quickly gets crowdy at night.

Fantastic, fresh, unique vegan food

My fiancé and I visited for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon at 3pm and Vega was so busy! Great to see such a popular vegan restaurant! We waited at the bar for 10 minutes to then be seated in the cute window seat. We were recommended the day menu which was great as we could not choose from the a la carte menu because we wanted everything! The day menu was €6.90 and included a aperitif, main, dessert, bread and water. We ordered all the choices to try everything and the chili con carne was the stand out as well as both desserts. We have booked a table for dinner tomorrow, cannot wait to try the a la carte menu! A must visit in Madrid!

Pros: creative, fresh, healthy
