Delicious, friendly and comfy - Edit
Lovely vegan restaurant. Finest service and comfy atmosphere accompanied by the staff's smile makes this restaurant exclusive. Only had dessert - chocolate parfait - and coffee, which was delicious. You can't tell that the whipped cream is made of soy milk. One of the best vegan desserts I had so far. Definitely going for lunch or dinner next time. I can recommend this place to everyone not only vegans and vegetarians but also omnivores, you wont tell the difference.

Jiyugaoka - Restaurant hours 1100-1500.

Nothing special - Edit
I've been to T's several times, and have tried the veg curry, tan tan noodles and the creamy gratin. As other people have noted, the food feels pretty uninspired. It uses a lot of salt and not much other flavour. The chefs are very sparse with the actual vegetables- the curry has like 5 tiny bits of roasted veggie and the rest is just sauce and brown rice. There is one bit of bok choi in the ramen and the rest is wheat noodles and mock meat. I never actually leave the place feeling good in my body, so I've decided not to go back.
Read moreOn the upside, Jiyugaoka is a cool neighbourhood, and if you're nearby then it's probably the only vegan option anyway. The staff are friendly, they generally speak English quite well, and the place has a nice atmosphere. The salad they give you as part of the set meal is really yummy!
Pros: Friendly staff, Nice atmosphere, Yummy salad
Cons: Salty food, Not many vegetables

Great Tasting Food - Edit
We ate here twice as it was close to my parents house. It is a short walk from the Jiyugaoka Train Station. The food is excellent and delicious, even my non-Vegan parents were impressed and ate everything up! They have daily specials and lunch sets. You may want to get a reservation during lunch or dinner as this place is very popular!

Uninspired - Edit
Friendly service and a great neighbourhood but I was disappointed with my vegetable curry: mostly rice and sauce and hardly any vegetables. The sauce was really quite salty too. An acceptable option if you're in the neighbourhood but otherwise I'd skip the train ride and look for somewhere more inspired.

It is difficult to find vegan food in Tokyo so, T's restaurant is a welcome venue when you just want to order without having to explain your dietary requirements. The food , whilst not 'wow', it certainly is edible and will fill you up. The desserts are fairly good too. The staff are friendly and attentive.

A charming vegan restaurant in Jiyugaoka - Edit
Although slightly off the beaten path for tourists, this restaurant is a must visit for vegans and veggies in Tokyo!! The sister restaurant of T's TanTan ramen shop in Tokyo station, this charming bistro in the student neighborhood of Jiyugaoka (located in on the basement floor of a small shopping building) serves their famous ramen and much much more. Try their rich and creamy 'Doria' baked risotto dish - a classic 'Japanese-western' menu item, and their phenomenal parfait! 3-5min walk from Jiyugaoka station.

T for tasty...? - Edit
Probably my favourite restaurant in Tokyo so far. There is so much variety on the menu and everything I've tried so far has been delicious. Everyone I've brought here (none of them veggie or vegan) has loved it too.
Read moreThere are dishes from different countries including Italy, Thailand, China and Japan, so a wide range of tastes can be catered to. The desserts are delicious too and there's always at least one type of cake you cake take away as well as packaged biscuits, scones etc. They also sell a small variety of vegan foods you can cook at home, including a few of their own-made sauces/stocks. The white sauce in particular is something I haven't found elsewhere in Tokyo.
The waiters are all lovely and the owner herself sometimes wanders around and likes to have a chat. There is an English menu and all the staff seem to speak English to varying degrees, so there shouldn't be any problems for people who don't speak Japanese.
The restaurant is in the basement of Luz department store and is a short walk from Jiyugaoka station.

Delightful! - Edit
My Japanese hosts (who are not vegan) brought me to this restaurant, and we had a great time.
Read moreI ordered the pasta special which was a spaghetti in a creamy and flavorful white sauce (soy milk based), with fresh basil, and veggies. It was very delicious, though I wished there had been more veggies in there to balance the pasta.
For dessert I had the chocolate scone. It was amazing so I took a kabocha one to go. I really regret not buying 10. Jiyugoaka is a fabulous must-visit part of Tokyo, but it seemed to take us forever to get there. If it weren't so far I would definitely go back for more scones for the airplane ride home.
Pros: Delicious, Great atmosphere, Lovely staff

A change in pace - Edit
T's TanTan at Tokyo Central Station is famous amongst vegetarians in Japan. It is one of the very few places that sells vegan ramen and it is located in the very heart of Tokyo. However, the restaurant at Tokyo Station is merely the little brother of T's TanTan in Jiyugaoka.
Read moreAfter many good experiences in Tokyo Station, I wanted to try the real thing. Jiyugaoka isn't exactly a popular area for tourists, but the restaurant is less than 5 minutes by foot from Jiyugaoka station.
Compared to the Tokyo Station, the restaurant in Jiyugaoka is a world apart. In Tokyo vegan fast food is served at a fast pace. Waiters are always running, people are queueing outside and the lights are bright. T's TanTan Jiyugaoka is located in a basement floor. The mood is mellow, relaxed and jazz music is playing. This is like going from fastfood to slow food!
The most important reason to try the Jiyugaoka branch is the change in menu. At Tokyo Station only ramen is sold, in Jiyugaoka the menu is much more extensive. However, the menu is also more confusing. We selected our meals on the website, but it turned out the menu was changed and the website wasn't updated yet. Also, the English menu differs from the Japanese one. Once we made a choice, many dishes were sold out so we had to pick something else.
The portions are small, yet tasty. I started with the "hamburger" which is fact is just a piece of fake meat dressed in some sauce and onion rings. It is not a main dish like the menu suggests. My friend ordered pasta in tomato sauce which she raved about. We continued with fried chicken (tofu) in mayonaise, which also comes in very small portions. Finally we had gyoza which was the most tasty of the evening, but still not very satisfying. However, the total price of the meal adds up quickly by ordering so many small meals.
We left T's TanTan Jiyugaoka with mixed emotions. It differs so much from the Tokyo Station restaurant that only the name and a part of the menu overlap. Yet, the quality was fine and it does offer some welcome variety. Hopefully next time less items are sold out...
Pros: differs from the usual vegan meals, relaxed atmosphere
Cons: small portions, high prices, many meals sold out, english, japanese en web menu differ

Good food off the beaten path - Edit
First and foremost the map is incorrect! After you walk past Mizuho bank (to your right) continue past an intersection and find the Luz plaza. Had a very late lunch here. They have a lunch set from 11am-3pm. And I got the lunch set for 1800 yen. Salad, an extra appetizer (I choose pumpkin), the main dish (vegetable curry) and a choice of tea or coffee. The lunch set makes it easy to order even if you can't read Japanese.
Read moreServings are not big but tasty. The curry was a bit salty that day. Cozy atmosphere inside. Not too loud. Next time I'll try the tantanmen and compare it with T's Tantan (sister shop in Tokyo Station).

Cons: good food, friendly staff, cozy atmosphere

The best place for dinner! - Edit
We went here for dinner several times during my visit to Tokyo. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and many spoke English. The menu was clearly labelled to identify dishes including honey, soy, ginger and other ingredients that might not be suitable for some diners. Food was always beautifully presented, service was helpful but not overbearing, and the desserts are to die for! Definitely try the chocolate parfait!

Visited with a local who comes here regularly for the reliable, beautifully prepared vegan dishes. The salad is beyond reproach and the dessert (a layered affair like the one pictured) was fresh, bewitchingly creamy and fruity - am weeping gently as i type. Cannot wait to return.
