God is working in the kitchen - Edit
My girlfriend and I wanted to find a vegan soul food place and this was exactly what we were looking for! We had the grilled cheese with speghettrios, and the mac and cheese. All of it was amazing and creamy which is what every vegan can ask for. Definitely recommend coming here and bring non-veg friends, you can’t even tell the difference.

Pretty good - Edit
I ordered the sweet potatoes, corn bread and mac and cheese. The sweet potatoes and corn bread were pretty good, but i felt like i could’ve made the mac and cheese at home. Non veg friends really liked the collard greens and BLT.

Just Okay - Edit
We were super excited to try them out but ended up disappointed. The flavors of most of what we ordered was mediocre at best. Everything was either extremely under-seasoned or ridiculously sweet and/or salty. Our server was friendly but our table was sticky and we were surprised by how long it took for our food to come out. (It wasn't busy.) Plus the dishes came out at totally different times, one with the wrong food on it, and not all of the hot items actually arrived hot. The prices are about what I expected for that neighborhood (about $20 per person) but with that I was hoping for higher quality and more thoughtful preparation. Ultimately there was not enough there to satisfy the non-vegans in the group, and for the price, not enough to compel us to return.

Cons: Higher prices, Flavors and preparation are hit or miss, Underwhelming food

I’ve been there twice now and both times, the food was awesome! Today I got the vegan chili with cornbread and maple butter—so delicious! Prices are pretty decent too.

One of my favorite vegan restaurants EVER - Edit
Such amazing people behind amazing food. The Mac and cheese, corn bread, and the chicken quesadilla are all AMAZING and could easily be mistaken for non-vegan. I can’t wait for them to continue to expand their menu. GO HERE you will not regret it

The BEST cornbread, but everything else is not impressive - Edit
First, the cornbread is 100% fantastic. It’s SO good. Everything else unfortunately falls short for me. I’ve been twice and had the same feeling both times. I got the soul platter the first time and the quesadilla the second. The Mac and cheese is... ok. Ribs... eh. Cornbread though is bomb. The quesadilla was around $15 and I didn’t even get full. It was so thin. The flavor was good though. I had the peach cobbler and the strawberry cake and both just tasted so cheap. Canned paches and really weird thick syrup sauce. The innovation is just not there. If a friend of mine made me that food, I would love it, but if I’m going to a restaurant and paying good money for it, I expect something better.

So good, but so expensive - Edit
Got the lasagna with a small side of spaghettrios and a slice of cake, and my total was over $40. For just me. It was great, but I didn’t have anything I couldn’t have made myself at home. I’ll still be in to try everything else though!

Wonderful place - Edit
Probably my new favorite restaurant when I visit Minneapolis. It’s still new and evolving with new menu items. A very pleasant casual atmosphere, okay for groups, couples, singles, with tables and bar seating. The soul food platter is epic, but lots of other nice things on the menu, too. I look forward to trying more.
Read moreI saw a couple early reviews saying the food was extremely salty. I don’t taste it. They must have toned down the salt since the early days after opening.
Pros: Simple tasty food, Nice casual atmosphere, Inclusive space & foods
Cons: Some better hot sauce would be nice

A+ friendly service and great food - Edit
First time eating at this awesome vegan restaurant that seems to focus on vegan comfort foods and it was all delicious. We were a group of eight hungry people so altogether we tried most of the menu. Service was kind and welcoming.
Read moreMost impressive, to me, was that one of the owners (get this!?) created a new menu item because my wife has so many food allergies. My wife had a great dinner, and they have soda she can drink even, which was a bonus. There aren't many places my wife can safely eat. We'll be back. A+ food and service.
Pros: Friendly and kind, Tasty food, Justice-oriented business

Lovin' Trio Plant-Based - Edit
I have been vegan since 1990, vegetarian since 1976, so – a lot of plant-based foods have crossed my lips and…I know good vegan food when I taste it. Trio Café is “Rockin’ It”.
Read moreNot only do they have great food, and their GF Lasagna is enough to kick the “raw foodie” out of me, they are also founded on a beautiful principle; Community.
This is reflected in how their patrons are welcomed and what appears on their menu. Featuring ingredients, recipes and menu items that come from the reaches of the community, they are true to their vision.
Do I suggest that you visit Trio Café? In a heartbeat.

10/10 Amazing! Heroes! - Edit
AMAZING!!! We were so excited for our first (of many) dining experience at Trio that we ended up ordering almost everything on the menu. Each delicious plate was as impressive as the next so it’s hard to pick a favorite. I loved the ham and cheese sandwich served with tomato soup - but again everything was 10/10 so no matter what you’re in the mood for you can’t go wrong. Going plant based was the best thing we’ve ever done for our health, the environment and especially the animals - the ultimate win/win/win - but Trio added another win, racial justice! Trio is owned primarily by people of color and has a progressive mission of empowering others. Check out their original kickstarter video for more info on their origin story. These guys put it all on the line for something they believe in and Minneapolis is so lucky to have them. They’re personal heroes of mine and they also know how to cook! You’ll dine feeling good knowing that you support good people but will be simultaneously blown away by their food!

Delicious Vegan Soul Food - Edit
Some things just cannot be put on the back burner. This review is one of those things. I was lucky enough, by chance, to be in town when I heard about this new vegan restaurant’s grand opening. I arrived @ 5:20pm on Sunday night, 30Sep, the first night of the grand opening event, and the place was packed! (Always a good sign.) The hostess was very pleasant and organized. She took my name and number, put me on the waitlist, and I received a text once my table was ready.
Read moreI ordered the Soul Food Platter and picked BBQ “ribs,” collard greens, sweet potatoes, and cornbread with maple butter. BAAAAABY! When I say the food was fire, I mean hella!
COLLARD GREENS were seasoned so good it makes you wonder why people ever put meat in non-vegan versions. I didn’t even need the obligatory hot sauce! I will say that there were too many stems, but I thoroughly enjoyed these greens, nonetheless.
SWEET POTATOES that would make your granny proud. Sweet, cinnamony & nutmegy. They were perfect.
CORNBREAD complete with pieces of corn inside. This is one of my favorite cornbread recipes. I’m ordering 2 or 3 next time!
BBQ RIBS - they were good (but not like, OMG great), and so tender that you could cut them with a fork. They come from The Herbivorous Butcher. I may or may not order them again.
Of course Tiggy had to order not one, but two desserts.
PEACH COBBLER - Hunty! It was so good, I ‘bout threw my fork. They don’t have vegan ice cream yet, but an a la mode version would set it off. Delicious! I’m too full to try the Vanilla cake with strawberry sauce, so I’ll report back on that in the photos.
They had other things on the menu, but I was drawn to the southern and soul food options, and they did NOT disappoint. Southern food done right, and cruelty free to top it off!! I’ll be back!
