Lots of options - Edit
Love that fact they have a big menu to choose from. Some things are BOMB others is alright. They seem to always be a little bit short on staff. But then you do get their attention they are always very kind. Keep up the great work!

OMG amazingly delicious collard greens - Edit
They don't have too much in the way for GF options, but I got the collard greens, yams, strawberry lemonade, and the taco trio. I hope they can have a GF burger option in the future, that would be awesome. The collard greens are to die for and I will keep coming here just for them. The strawberry lemonade is made with real strawberries, super good. The yams are also wonderful, and my tacos were good too but obviously my favorite was the collards. :)

I tried... - Edit
Walked up and was hardly even greeted. Whatever. No fussed... we all have our days. Ordered two meals and at the end of the order he tells me it will be ready in an hour. Umm... ok. Again, it was slightly busy. Came back in an hour and waited a bit more only to realize he handed me a bag without the cornbread. Went back and he got the cornbread and apologized. We asked if he put the maple butter in there and he assured us he had and then gave us a cookie as an apology. Got in the car and drove off... opened the cornbread - no maple butter.

The Cauliflower Wings were O.K. I expected more spicey flavor! The House BBQ Ribs, Mac and Cheese was tasty. The Yams were bland and so was the Southern Slaw. Being very picky about

I’ve been to Trio a few times now. It is getting better and better all the time. I was craving some satisfying vegan comfort food today during the Covid19 societal shutdown. Trio delivered that comfort in a wrap with a side of sweet potato fries right from their window.

Nachos. Yes, nachos. - Edit
I’ve had a lot of vegan nachos, but Trio makes my personal favorite. They’re straight forward, but layered with tons of greatness. Also tried a wrap and their Mac and cheeze, which are solid options if that’s your thing.

Simply Amazing!!! - Edit
I had an amazing experience at Trio. The food is great. on this go around, I purchased the double cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. It was the best plant-based burger I’ve had anywhere in the twin cities. My wife had the soul food platter and loved it- Mac n cheese, yams, greens, and cornbread. The food is awesome here. I’ve been here a few times. Everything is good and plant-based.

Will definitely be back! - Edit
We enjoyed everything we had. We tried the nachos as an appetizer which were very good but robust... Almost didn't have room for our main dishes! We tried a sample platter with the slaw, mac and cheese, and collard greens - all of which was wonderful. We also tried the soul bowl which was good - The riblets were a little chewy but flavor was good. Seemed to take a while for the food to come out, but it was worth the wait. Bright, fresh, atmosphere with good music playing in the background to set the overall vibe. Overall really pleased with our experience.

Great food! - Edit
I love supporting plant based restaurants. When we went there it was slow at first and there was only one server. We got cauliflower wings, onion rings, jackfruit sandwich, and collard greens, Mac and cheese, and coke slaw. All the food was delicious, but it took a bit to get the food and the one server was overwhelmed by people with now help. They also kept running out of stuff. Not sure what was going on that night. Maybe it’s better now! Great food if you are in the mood for vegan junk food!

For your soul - Edit
Everything I've tried at Trio has been delicious and my meat-eating friends agree. I could eat the Soul Bowl everyday... buffalo mac & cheese with collard greens topped with cornbread? It's got me already planning my next trip back!

Great Food, Poor Service - Edit
Our food (wings, cornbread, mac and cheese, chicken wrap) at TPB were all very good. However, the service was nearly non-existent and ruined what would have been a stellar experience. Our server was slow ( ~10 min) to come to our table to check in/take our order. Once we did order we waited another ~40 minutes before being told that our main order of ribs on the platter was not available. After placing a new order and waiting another 10 minutes we were seriously considering leaving without our food. As mentioned above the food was great, but not worth waiting an hour and a half for. Trio Plant Based just needs to work out their service kinks! The smoke detector was also beeping with a low battery the entire evening which was not ideal.

On my first visit I had the bbq pit burger, cauliflower wings, and the vanilla cake. All of it was amazing. This place gets very busy and could use more staff but they do a great job. I can't wait to go back and try more things on the menu.

Trio, more like primo - Edit
So they updated/change their menu recently, and I'm here for it. I have tried a few things on their new menu and here is what I'm ordering pretty consistently: Onion Rings and Mac Attack burger (with cajun fries). Overall the atmosphere is nice, the location is great, parking is usually ok. This is probably one of my favorite places to eat in the twin cities.

Loved the food! The nachos were excellent - large enough to have as an entree, and the flour tortilla chips are home made and very good. It was a little spicy though - not sure which ingredient was the spicy one since they were all mixed together.

UNBELIEVABLE - Edit
This was seriously some of the best food I’ve had in a long time. Vegan or not, I’d be surprised if anyone didn’t like this place. I got the soul food platter with housemade bbq ribs, mac & cheese, collard greens, and cornbread. My husband got a double cheeseburger with pepper jack. We also split a vanilla cake with strawberry sauce. I literally cannot believe how good everything is - I truly have no complaints. As I understand it, the menu has shrunk a little with an ownership change but it is still significant and very delicious. If I lived closer, I’d go here all the time. Not only is the food amazing, but I also love supporting a small black-owned vegan business. Go here! You will not regret it.

Just ok. Out of many things - Edit
Four of us went for an early Sunday lunch. The restaurant was nearly empty but extremely loud. The atmosphere was similar to a high school cafeteria complete with plastic chairs. They were out of ribs and corn bread which eliminated the signature soul food options from consideration, plus the tomato soup, and hummus. Really? So we all went to plan B or C and had the buffalo “chicken “ wraps, which were good, but one was burned. We had the buffalo wing appetizer, which was good but small. The fries were good. The collard greens and mac and cheese were just ok. Oh and they were out of one of their three desserts (brownies). We skipped dessert and went down Lyndale to the new Vegan East who was happy to sell us some delicious desserts.

Great food, with a couple *s - Edit
I’ve been to Trio a half-dozen times and the food is good every time. The first time I went, I brought a non-veg friend who is normally pretty critical and even she was impressed by the collards, cornbread, and mac and cheese on the soul food platter. My husband loves the nachos, which are tasty with a huge portion that would be good to share as an appetizer or have as a full meal. I like the spaghet-Trios (spelling?) for nostalgia meals. Try one of the bottled Wisco-pop flavors too, the cherry tastes like liquid pie.
Read moreNow a couple caveats: the portion sizes seem to vary a ton. Sometimes I get the BBQ rib and it’s one small piece, like 1” by 3” inches. Sometimes it’s two pieces that are each 1.5” by 4”. Sometimes every portion on the soul food platter is double regular size. It makes it hard to gauge how much food to order.
Lastly, the collards the first couple times I went were phenomenal. Kinda salty, spicy, super flavorful. The last two times they’ve been much more bland—still good, but I think they dialed way back on the seasoning and they’re just fine, but not great anymore. Depending on how much of a fan of cooked greens you are, this may or may not be an issue.
Pros: All vegan everything, Legit collards, Mix of healthy and indulgent options
Cons: Portion sizes not consistent, Kitchen sometimes runs out of a few things, I don’t live directly above the restaurant
