Friendly, tasty, expensive

Located in the railway building, this restaurant offers a self-service buffet. As I went there, most option were vegan and clearly labeled. You take your food from the buffet, go to a counter (friendly staff, explained everything very patiently), and put your plate on a scale. I was a little astonished by the price. For Switzerland it is moderate, even not very affordable. But if you're from a foreign country, be careful how much you put on your plate.
The food was really tasty and was made of fresh ingredients, often with a "oriental" touch. Some dishes were warm, others cold, a small bread is included. All in all I enjoyed my short stay there. The only thing I would complain is the atmosphere, especially outside. You're sitting right next to a street, the building itself is pretty ugly, and so on. That's maybe not a fault of the restaurant, but in consequence of that there's a lack of atmosphere.

Pros: Staff, Fresh, tasty food

Cons: Outside seating / atmosphere

veggie station

The restaurant organizes time to time a vegan day and I had the pleasure to be there and...it was so great, one hardly believes. It is really a busy place, with problems to find a place to sit so don't expect any oasis of peace, but surely a must visit.

Pros: a huge choice, sooo tasty

Cons: quite busy place, hard to find a seat

Great vegan food options

Tibits, in its various locations, is probably the best place to eat for vegans in Switzerland. They have a great variation of food, the majority of which being vegan, and have some very imaginative dishes. Unfortunately it's usually quite crowded due to its popularity. The Bern chain seems particularly small. The food is definitely worth the noise though.

Pros: Great food, Lots of vegan options

Cons: A little too crowded

Yummy

Lots of different dishes and the menu is always changing... but of course you will find the same stuff all over again in a few weeks! but ts ok... they can't change everything everyday! but if you want a calm place to enjoy your meal, you should go there in the morning ;-)

Pros: Lots of food, Average swiss prices, near the train station

Cons: Crowded

Good but crowded

Tibits is probably the best choice for a vegan in Bern. If you are hungry you are going to find always something to eat.
That's the positive side of the story...
Prepare yourself to fight for a place ... tibits is very hype and popular among non vegan ... so it is really crowded and not really cozy. However ... you are left with not many options in the capital of Switzerland...

Pros: large choice of vegan option, good value, friendly

Cons: crowd, noisy

Great food

Look, it's Switzerland, so this place is crazy expensive. One plate of food (not even full), with a drink was the equivalent of 30 USD. Get over it. Most restos in Switzerland are expensive, and at least here the food is good. I liked everything, including the friendly staff. The food was by and large delicious, and vegan dishes were well marked. Quinoa, hummous, bean dishes fresh potatoes. Hard to go wrong here. Just remember to empty your bank vault first....

Best in Bern

Whatever your food preference..veg, vegan, omni, Tibits is one of the best places in Bern for fresh, delicious, healthy food. super convenient as it's located at the train station and nice views with big windows right on the main entrance. outdoor seating available too. great buffet with lots of choices -warm and cold, specialty coffees, juice "cocktails", and yummy soups and sandwiches too. if you're vegan, try an apple turnover or the dinkelgipfeli (spelt croissant) with your soymilk "schale" (large cup of cafe and soymilk!). delicious in every sense. would be helpful if they would designate which buffet items are vegan, although it's pretty obvious.

Pros: lots of vegan choices, stylish atmosphere, fresh juice bar

Cons: can get expensive, can get crowded

Good but not great

Every time I'm in Bern I eat here. It's decent at best BUT only because it's the same thing day in and day out. Ok for vegan. Everythings fresh and everythings locally grown and made to Swiss perfection. Expensive as well, however the sandwiches and soup are both about 7chf. Everything is clearly marked vegan.

Pros: Everything marked vegan, Fast, Clean

Cons: Expensive

A good buffet

You've already written a lot on this restaurant. We've noticed that everyday we found the same dishes so, if you're vegan as we are, the third time you go you'll find nothing new. If you're a tourist it's perfect, anyway, expecially for it's position. A good lunch is about half a kilo (you pay by weight 41 CHF/kg and it's not too much according to swiss avg); we paid 20 CHF each and we felt full of food.

Pros: position, labels

Cons: small vegan choice

Boutique pour la bouche

We mostly concur with gr8vegan's review below, though for our part we didn't find any cause to complain about oil (it's the bill that stung us). If you're on a tight budget and/or you wish to avoid oil entirely, you'd probably be better off eating at Hier und Jetzt nearby instead of Tibits, but if neither of those two issues are a deciding factor for you, then Tibits should be on your short list for veg dining in Bern because the food is quite tasty and at least some of it is creative.

The oil question is of course a matter of personal preference. Though many of the dishes indeed had some oil, most had what we would consider a moderate amount. Take the very tasty samosas, for example: they're fried in oil by tradition, but Tibits' samosas are noticeably *less* oily than samosas tend to be in India (and in most Indian restaurants around the world). Tibits also offers soups, salads, and sandwiches (albeit at higher prices than Hier und Jetzt).

Which brings us to the price tag. Those who aren't accustomed to Swiss prices will likely suffer sticker shock at Tibits: our meals came to about 15-25 CHF per person not including beverages (pretty average for Switzerland). That said, one could manage a light meal for around 10 CHF or so, and it's worth noting that they offer a slightly lower rate for take-out (and fixed prices for sandwiches).

The location on the ground floor of the train station can't be beat for convenience and people watching, especially from the outdoor tables. On the other hand, the bustling crowds might be overload if you're looking for peace or a quiet conversation (in which case consider Hier und Jetzt, just around the corner).

Pros: Plenty of vegan options both hot & cold, Food labeled with dietary indicators, Great central location

Cons: Relatively expensive, Tends to be crowded

I'll save you $50 by reading my review

Ok, Tibits is a vegan paradise in Switzerland where you can hardly find a bite to eat, the only problem is that every single dish aside from lettuce and bread contains inordinate amounts of oil to keep it "fresh" due to the buffet style nature of this restaurant. If you don't care about your health, weight, acne, etc this place is HEAVEN for you. Tons of clearly marked Vegan items with V / VG / VNG etc for vegan / gluten / nuts, etc. Unfortunately, for those of us on a healthy vegan diet there is only bread and lettuce. My advise is to grab a beer there and take in the scene and then go down to the organic grocery store on the bottom floor and get your bread for a few bucks :)

Pros: fried vegan paradise

Cons: oily mess, only lettuce and bread are healthy items

Great food. Excellent variety.

We loved this place. So much to choose from! Very large buffet of delicious food. Not everything is vegan, but items are marked dairy free or egg free etc. Busy place, but it's understandable since the food is so good.

Pros: Selection is huge, lots of vegan options, location is convenient

Cons: a bit busy (not really bad)

Convenient and tasty

I was just in Bern for 6 days, and I had 5 lunches and 3 dinners at Tibits. There is a pricey buffet where you pay by weight. Some of the dishes are very good, and some aren't so great. You really need to go more than once so the first time you can try a bit of a lot of things and the second time you can get only the good stuff. If you don't want to spend a lot of money or just want something small, get a sandwich. I don't know if their sandwiches change, but when I was there, the vegan sandwiches were "antipasto" and "Tandoori". They were both very good. The sandwiches are 7.30 for take-away. You can easily pay 20 if you get the buffet. This restaurant is actually in the train station, near all the trams.

Pros: Sandwiches, Buffet selection, Location

Cons: Expensive buffet, Can be crowded
