After 3 decades, we've stopped going - Edit
We went to Whale Tail last weekend, we go every time we pass through Lancaster and have done for 27 years. Sadly, we will not be returning after a deflating experience. The portion of chips used to be a decant size. Now, it has shrunk to half while rocketing in price (£4.55 for a tiny dish). We asked the waiter if there had been a mistake (did we get the half portion) he said no. When we complained about the value and how their portion is half the size yet twice the price, his response was complete silence. Now I get that there is a cost of living crisis affecting all of us, but that does not justify such shrinkflation and it does not justify a total lack of customer service. We were therefore not hopeful of any further resolution with management so we ate (without pudding) and promptly left. The rest of the food was really good but the price does not justify it any longer, when the service is so bad, and chips are not that costly. Next time in Lancaster, we will get samosas down the street.

Amazing vegan & gluten-free options - Edit
The best cafe in lancaster with loads of vegan and gluten free food. I had lentil, watercress and garlic soup w/ gf bap today, which was lovely. Would definitely recommend the BLT and checking out the health food shop (Single Step) downstairs.

Amazing vegan breakfasts 💚 - Edit
We visited last summer whilst on holiday, and were so impressed we are still dreaming about their breakfasts a year on!! Lots of choice on the menu, we even took away slices of cake to have later in the day, all were delicious. Lovely hidden gem, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and we loved the displays of local artwork.

Easily the best vegan/veggie restaurant in Lancaster, if not Lancashire! Great pricing, varied menu, delish and the service is excellent! Specials change frequently too and I always leave feeling healthy, happy and full 😊. I never go to Lancaster without stopping by!

Quirky, great variety, good prices. - Edit
The menu is extensive with lots to choose from. The cakes and avocado & tofu bagel are favourites of mine. You can get standalone glasses of plant based milk if you’d like some time to sit down in the city with friends or with a book but don’t necessarily want or have the money for a meal with it. Desserts are large portion, I bring tupperware and save half for the next day. Servers are really nice!!

Pros: All / Mostly vegan! , Toilet for anyone to use by the entrance , Design of the place is retro/quirky

On a recent visit to Lancaster we went to The Whale Tail for lunch. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, the pretty outside seating area and the food (the falafel plate)... so we went back for breakfast (smoked tofu bagel).

Highly recommend coming here. We went for lunch on a Sunday and they were serving breakfast all day - and vegan! So so tasty, loved every bite of it. It was a bit odd paying before the food arrived but it wasn't a problem, just unusual I guess.
