Very GREAT Butchers! - Edit
Lived in Victoria for 4 years but unfortunately discovered this place after the first two. Love it so much. Great vegan hangover junk food style, very hearty and filling. Be prepared to wait a couple minutes on the weekends because their brunch options are super delicious too. Highly recommend! Also, snag their punch card for free meals for repeat diners!

Really good - Edit
Located in a market type space downtown, you can grab to go faux cuts of meat to cook at home and hot and ready meals. I got the ribs from the 'butcher' counter to cook at home and the BBQ sauce flavour and texture was perfect! While waiting, I ordered a Big Mac and Mac and cheese to go and OMG Amazing is all I can say.

Ambitious but lacks the wow factor - Edit
Easily the best vegan food in Victoria but dishes miss that extra 'wow factor' in terms of taste. Vegan comfort food is hard to come by in Victoria and TVGB delivers just that. The location is to be desired but is serviceable. Overall a can't miss in Victoria but doesn't quiet stack up to other vegan restaurants in the world. Also worth noting is that a lot of the time they will miss ingredients listed on the menu for an item.

Cons: pricey , misses the mark in terms of taste

An experience not to be missed - Edit
The Very Good Butchers is definitely one of the top places that you must try at least once in your life when you're in town (Victoria, BC), regardless of whether you're vegan, vegetarian, or neither! I have visited them numerous times & know that this will be one of the places that I will definitely bring my guests to try. Being a vegan butchery itself is already an interesting reason to visit. I'm pretty sure that you'll be pleasantly surprised by their creatively handcrafted delicious deli (vegan) meat which they have used in their dine-in menu options.
Read moreThey have a tables available for customers who would like to dine-in, but you can always make use of the large seating area outside the shop so dining-in should not be much of an issue on a regular day. You can definitely have your food packed for takeaway. I like that their meat alternatives are also available in packages for takeaway so that you can also use them in your home-cooked meals sometimes. They also frequently carry a nice selection of vegan creations from other local (or fairly local) businesses, such as cheeses (vegan, of course!), ice cream, & baked goods.
If you are in town but are too lazy to go to their shop, they have also partnered up with Skip The Dishes so you can have your orders delivered to you if you live within the geographical boundaries. Here's a link to their profile: https://www.skipthedishes.com/the-very-good-butchers
Also, here's their website! https://www.verygoodbutchers.com

Amazing - Edit
This restaurant is amazing. I found them through this app when looking for a new place to try some food on my way down to Victoria a little while back. I was super impressed by their menu amd when we got there, we were just stoked to be able to order anything on the menu without having to make alterations, as everything is vegan! The prices are also very reasonable and affordable. When we got the food we were even more impressed, it was delicious, creative and just tasty as hell!! Everyone should try their food, I would 10/10 recommend them to everyone I know (I already have 😂)

Awesome vegan restaurant in Victoria. - Edit
We had two burgers and the Mac-n-cheese. Everything was delicious and there was enough for leftovers later that night. Highly recommend. If you use google maps to get there just remember the store is inside a large building in the center. Find the entrance to the complex and go eat.

A Real Southern Meal, Veganized - Edit
I went here with my best friend (vegetarian) during a weekend stay in Victoria. I was immediately impressed with the broad array of butcher options, the striking and funny decor, and the prompt and kind service.
Read moreI ordered Ribs with Fries and a side of Mac and Cheese. The Ribs had a perfect smoky glaze, balancing sweet, savoury, and the slight charred flavours one would expect from perfectly smoked ribs. The texture was moist but with a satisfying degree of chew, yet didn't go so far into meat domain that vegans feel like they've entered the uncanny valley. I purchased another rack to take home and my fiancée noted that it looks more like a steak than ribs - I honestly don't think this is an issue, and the flavour and texture screams ribs over steak.
The fries on the side were crisp, well seasoned, and generally very well executed. The mac and cheese were al dente but unfortunately lacked a depth of flavour. I ended up taking the mac and cheese home and embellishing it with some vegan Gouda I had bought from the Very Good Butchers - the results were outstanding. They have such a fantastic selection of vegan cheese in their butchery side; I wish they would incorporate some of those cheese into their mac and cheese. I would certainly pay more for the incredible flavour boost!
All in all, an amazing establishment pumping out creative and flavourful vegan eats. In addition to the above, I brought some seitan bacon home and it was incredible. We sat at the bar and the staff chatted with us - they really added to our experience with their kind and interesting conversation. I've heard rumours of an expansion to Vancouver, and I honestly feel they will fill a massive void when they get here. I'm counting down the days!
Pros: Wicked selection of butchery goods., Price is generous in light of the quality/quantity, Texture and flavour of veganized meat products.
Cons: Mac and Cheese needed more love.

Very good food - Edit
Victoria was the last port of call on a recent Alaskan cruise. I found The Very Good Butchers reviewed on Happy Cow, and had it on my must dine list for the few hours I would be in town. I took a bus from the cruise port to downtown Victoria, and was so glad I choose this over a guided tour.
Read moreStarted with the very tasty very good poutine ( Canada, right?); fresh cut crispy fries topped by creamy gravy and luscious cheese curls. The creamy smooth mac & cheese topped with green onions was delicious. Crispy strip caesar salad was good as a side as well.
My non vegan companion was barely able to finish her very good burger, declaring it really good and wishing there was someplace like this near where she lives in Florida. I got the Buffalo style cauli wings to go; they were even good cold, as I had them for dinner after returning to the ship.
Unable to try the deli meats and cheeses, since I had no place to refrigerate them in my cabin. This full service vegan butcher shop makes them in house, and they looked awesome. Maybe next trip...
The Very Good Butchers serve up excellent food in beautiful downtown Victoria. Located in Victoria Public Market at the Hudson, inside the historic, re-purposed Hudson Bay Company building, there is a small amount of in restaurant seating, with more available in the shared food court area.
Service was very friendly, and accommodating. Excellent prices and generous portions as well.
Pros: 100% vegan comfort food, Affordable pricing, Ample portions
