Craving pan asian

I have said in previous reviews i would kill for a vegan asian restaurant in scotland and this is the closest so far. When i say asian i mean more easter than southern, and this fits the bill with a blend of japans, chinese and korean flavours.
A cool bar in the forever getting trendier great western road, the new west end for glasgow. i may even have been served by a member of remember remember! a nice vibe with a selection of craft beers, a menu changing daily of hand a dozen dishes or so. I was by myself and was made to feel really welcome, a quiet delight of melodies playing in the background. I plucked for the spicy aubergine with a mango side salad. the sale was fantastic, fresh with a zing which left my palate fresh and ready for the main. this also wasn't a let down, plenty of heat in the aubergine, but still enough flavour coming through to allow you enjoy the vegetable taste. I loved the wee pickles with the dish, which allowed me to freshen up the last buds. the rice was the only let down, a texture of reheat just a bit dry and tough.
back again recently and had a jackfruit curry and kimchi, once again it was mighty fine.

Another visit and another fantastic meal. My friend complained about the menu being small, I like it, do what you can do in the space you have, donor well.

How the mighty have fallen. Tried to get food tonight, one vegan option. Marinara .

Gotta luv the Hug

This used to be a great place for vegan, asian food: a limited menu but always tasty and inventive. In autumn 23 it became a “Vegetarian Mexican” and promptly drew the ire of a large number of previous devotees for losing its vegan status.

Since March 2024 it’s back to being fully vegan again, with a focus on asian dishes, though more Indian than the previous menu. There’s a small menu of about half a dozen dishes. We went along recently to sample the wares.

Unfortunately on the night we visited they had been having problems with fridges and had only half the dishes on the menu. We had spicy fried potatoes, chickpea korma and rice. Staff very friendly and helpful as usual, gave us some free popadoms and dip as apology for the unavailability of other items. Korma was really good- I’m not normally a fan of chickpea curry or kormas but it scored highly. Will return to sample other dishes sometime soon.

Great to see the place back to being vegan, really hope it survives. Much love to ya!

Such a shame it became vegetarian, the food there used to be great.

Curry!

Cons: Offene Küche = Es riecht recht streng

Vegan Curry

Came on a Tuesday and there was a very limited but fully vegan menu on offer, including chickpea korma and vegan drunken noodles. The food was tasty and satisfying.

No longer fully vegan

It’s sad that this restaurant is no longer fully vegan. I loved the Asian style food, however, most of the dishes now can be made vegan and the tacos were lovely. We shared nachos and mushroom tacos and their margaritas are delicious too

Pros: Good food, Nice atmosphere , Friendly staff

Cons: Not vegan anymore

Not vegan

Was the best vegan restaurant in Glasgow in my opinion but has sadly changed their menu to include animal products.

No longer vegan

This place used to have an amazing fully vegan offering. Unfortunately the owners have decided overhaul the menu to vegetarian with vegan options which are simply the cheese and eggs removed. Disappointing.

Cons: Vegan options are simply veggie without eggs/milk, Previously delicious vegan Asian menu is gone

Super tasty

Coming from Los Angeles it’s been hard to find really flavorful or spicy food in Scotland. This was so good! Really packed some heat, and was the best meal we had in Glasgow.

Pros: Flavor, Ambiance, Price

Inventive and Yummy

Love the food here. It’s clean and delicious. The portions are small for the price, so it’s hard to get full here, even if you order everything on the menu and share it with one other person. But it’s some of the tastiest food in Glasgow for sure. And the people who work here are cool and nice. And it’s a bar. They do a vegan white russian… pretty exciting. And they have a good beer selection along with other cocktails.

Pros: Unique, Delicious

Cons: Small Portions

Amazing, imaginative food and friendly service

I had been to the Hug and Pint a few times before the pandemic, but went back this week for the first time since 2019, and it was even better than I remembered. The tapas-style dishes are perfect for trying a variety of flavours and for sharing, and they are all full of flavour and very imaginative. It is such a welcome contrast with most of the vegan places in Glasgow, which are so heavy on burger-and-chips stodge.

Prices seem to have gone up a fair bit since before the pandemic, which is understandable, but it is still good value, especially for the quality that you get. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and not at all intrusive. The only downside is that it’s too much of a casual pub-style vibe for my (middle-aged!) taste.

I always think of ‘black pepper aubergine, pickled cucumber’ as their signature dish, and would have been outraged if it had not been on the menu!

Pros: Delicious, imaginative food, Tapas-style is great for sampling and sharing, Relaxed and friendly service

Cons: Very basic interior

Brilliant!

This was great! We were worried we wouldn't get a table but on a Thursday at 12pm, we needn't have worried!
We loved the tempeh and the tofu dish, I also liked the kimchi rice pudding a lot, but somehow we didn't enjoy the black fungi dish as much. My husband said the kombucha he had was the best he's ever had and the toddler was even supplied with water for a duck catching game.

Pros: Friendly staff, Great menu, The most tender tempeh ever

Small plates to die for every single item excellent, the beer and wine also great.

Arab Strap sand about this place “Monday night at the Hug and Pint” but any day of the week will do

Friendly and tasty

East Asian tapas. Menu changes as they tan out of a dish and introduce new ones. A bit expensive as main bowls are £6-10 and you probably want two plus some rice (£3)

Come with an empty belly

Trust me. You’re gonna want to try everything on the menu, so come hungry!! I was travelling solo so I only ordered two bowls and one rice. This was more than enough for one person but I wished I had been with friends so we could have tried more dishes. I didn’t expect such explosion of flavours. Simply delicious. I tried several vegan restaurants in Glasgow and this was my favourite, along with Stereo. Just wow.

Very good vegan food for a fair price

We went here our first night in Glasgow and were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was! Very tasteful and quite refined flavours, escepially considering the price point. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. We'll go here again!
