Delicious!! - Edit
I came for Sunday brunch. Was able to be seated almost immediately. Had the Brekkie Plate and deep fried oreos!! The food was very tasty! Main meal came pretty quickly, 1/2 hour wait for the oreos. Nice staff, busy place... would definitely recommend stopping here!

What the hell. Not good at all. - Edit
We were 3 people and we ordered 4 dishes. The salad was very good, the shawarma was ok, but the other two were hideous. I asked the waiter for the most popular and recommended dish because I wanted to play it safe. Awful. Do not order the dish with the "chicken nuggets" because it was so so dry and had a weird powder on it that made me cough with every bite. The mac n' cheese was so so, had an artificial taste to it but edible. the last dish was sour to the point that we were wondering if it was off. Not going back there.

Some good menu items - Edit
I've been here a few times and the food is always good (except for their fake bacon that I had in a veggie chickun wrap which was only the white fatty part of bacon....bleh). I would still recommend their chickun though. They do serve a good butter chicken roti and deep fried mushroom appetizer. There is a pretty good selection of beer on tap. I usually get the Boneshaker. I'm going to have to take points away for the reliably bad service and need to pick through their menu for the good food items.

Filling food - Edit
After seeing such great reviews online, I decided to try out the food. The best part of the meal was the buffalo wings! The unchicken and waffles were good, though I wasn't a big fan of the yams. Tried the chili cheese fries, which were yummy. I especially loved the guacamole and cheese. Overall, a good experience.

Love this place - Edit
I love this place. It's delicious and relaxed. I almost always order the Southern Combo, and sub the sweet potato mash for the collard greens (which are good nonetheless). I have had the fish and chips; it came undercooked so I haven't had it again. The desserts are awesome. Be prepared for a wait: even with the new location, it's always rammed. Brunch is amazing.

Great staff, great food - Edit
My dad who has just recently gone plant based is not a picky eater at all but is not used to the different flavors and tastes vegan food has to offer. So he was quite disappointed with the food. But myself (vegan) and the rest of my family (omni's) LOVED the food here!! The unchicken is to die for and the grilled tofu salad had the BEST tofu I've ever had on it! The desserts were so amazing I wanted to cry. There were only two wait staff working the whole restaurant and they never ceased being super friendly and happy despite running around constantly. Major props to them. I love this place, will deff be coming back.

Scary real chicken - Edit
Vegan comfort food, I got the unchicken and waffles and I was one of the best meals I've ever had. The chicken was crispy fatty and stringy like real chicken it scared me a little. Waffles were amazing so were the collars greens and sweet potato mash! Also got deep fried bananas and ice cream. Need to go here again asap!

Great Vegan Comfort Food! - Edit
We are vegans from the UK and were thrilled to find Hogtown Vegans on our travels. We had the English Stew and Unchicken and Waffles dishes - first time we'd had a savoury and sweet dish on one plate, but loved it! The chocolate mousse was wonderful too! Thanks guys and thanks to Kurt, who served us. Nice, informal place. :-)

Slightly disappointed - Edit
Overall a disappointing experience (well I was seated next to a window with a uncomfortable cold breeze, which didn't help); I ordered the waffle but I found it rather dry and bland. I could have made a better choice, I suppose.

My mouth is watering thinking of how much I enjoyed their fried unchicken, so delicious. Also the waitstaff is very friendly and they put on a fresh pot of coffee for me. Very comfy place, nothing pretentious about it.

Not so good - Edit
This is a small joint in not the best part of town. I ordered the un chicken and waffles, which comes with a side of mashed sweet potato and collard greens. I think my expectations were too high. Before I became vegan I liked my chicken nice and crispy and I had had some amazing chicken and waffle sandwiches. This chicken wasn't just a slab of tofu, it did have texture and flavor but it was not what I was expecting from reading the reviews. I didn't like the sweet potato, the greens were good and I liked the waffle, though they were sweet not savory. I live an hour away and I rearranged my schedule to go to this restaurant and I do not recommend doing that.

Not very good - Edit
If you desire Vegan comfort food and don't care about eating refined flour, lots of fried foods and sugar, you might still be disappointed with Hogtown because while it does indeed offer all of those things, the taste does not satisfy. I decided to throw caution to the wind while visiting Toronto and was in the mood for comfort food, vegan style. Somehow everything was a let down taste wise and I was really looking forward to trying this place. The Quesadilla was bland, the BBQ "pork" was rubbery, the fries were soggy and the Reuben had sprouts on it, helping to make it taste soggy and very un-reuben like. It had a little sauerkraut but bland overcooked sliced Seitan. I've had all of these different types of dishes at other places when they were great, but Hogtown missed the boat with every dish. Yet, people were waiting in line to get in. Also it was extremely noisy and hard to hear. The staff was very friendly and helpful but the food just awful and certainly not worth it on any level. The cookie I got for desert was really great but that's it. I don't like writing negative reviews but felt honor bound to let others know of my experience.

Loved the fish and chips - Edit
I am a fried food fan, and a tempeh fan, so their fish an chips won my heart!
Read moreMy partner had the Philly Cheese steak, which he found a little large considering all of the wonderful "wings" (2 orders) and "oysters" we had to start, but otherwise all was great! Also would have maybe preferred some whole grains in the bun (which is why I didn't order a sandwich of sorts).
Junk (sorry "comfort") food doesn't have to be pure junk (or does it)? Room for debate there for sure. I would personally prefer the sandwiches to be whole grain, but as a pub-grub-eat-like-normal-people place, hey, what's a little sin!
Definitely recommend the "wings", "oysters" and "fish and chips".
Pros: Good 'comfort' food, Friendly staff, Pure vegan (with leftovers)
Cons: Refined grains in breads, Very busy

Toronto's Best Vegan Place? - Edit
After going to Toronto regularly for most of my life, I've become familiar with the veg offerings in the city. I must admit, Hogtown is one of the best, if not THE best vegan place in the city. Their mastery of comfort food is unparalleled. It aint cheap, but I wouldn't classify it as expensive either. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the city!

Great place to bring your non-vegan friends - Edit
My non-vegan friends absolutely loved it. I'm allergic to gluten, so I tried the gluten-free options and they were greasy, pretty good (not great), but hey I still had fun. If you're a normal person who can have gluten, I'm sure you'll enjoy your meal. The biggest victory for me was that my non-vegan friends found it to be a really tasty, positive experience, and for that I would definitely come back.
