Fantastic place - Edit
What a great find. There’s a nice variety of dishes on the regular menu plus a specials board, giving you lots to choose from. And when you finally decide (it took me a while!) and your food arrives, it’s absolutely delicious. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, both to people and their dogs. Will definitely be visiting again.

Outstanding - Edit
I was in Sunderland to visit the National Glass Centre (which is definitely worth a trip). Afterwards we wandered into town to check this place out because of the HappyCow reviews. It didn't disappoint. It's quite small with around ten tables, but didn't feel cramped even though it was still busy at 3 o'clock on a Friday.
Read moreThe menu was very good for vegans, with plenty of brunch and lunch options such as bagels with avocado and scrambled tofu. Specials included a Japanese curry and spring rolls.
We only had tea and cakes - a carrot cupcake and sicilian lemon cake - both of which were light and tasty. All their cakes are vegan and we took out a peanut butter blondie and a courgette and lime cupcake, which were still lovely and fresh the day after.
This place is special. Sunderland is lucky to have it and one I'll make a detour for next time I'm in the north east.

My first time visiting The Good Apple Cafe and I wasn't disappointed. The burger from the Specials Board was so delicious 😋. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. Staff were incredibly friendly and it was clear how much effort and thought was given to menu.

The food is just absolutely delicious! I love everything I’ve tried. As if the food isn’t enough, the place is lovely and the people are just the nicest you’ll meet! Really fantastic vegan place! I’d spend every penny here, it’s so well priced and they use really high quality ingredients! Side note, nicest vegan cheese I’ve ever had!

For a specifically veggie place it has a pretty limited menu. It's a cute place with great potential.

Been here at least once a week for the last 6 months and it is awesome. - Edit
The menu is small but there are specials on each week. I started by getting the soup and a wrap deal. Two different vegan wraps available. The Vegan Special wrap is very good. I’ve had the red lentil soup which was amazing and the leek and potato is also excellent. I now try to get one of the specials because it is usually something interesting in that it’s a vegan take on a non-vegan dish or has something in that I haven’t had before. It’s a great place to get a fresh, tasty, good value vegan meal.

Tempei - is that how you spell it? - Edit
Went to the Good Apple today and had their tempei(?) with noodles, spicy peanut sauce and broccoli. Wasn't sure what it was going to be like, but it was absolutely delicious. To all the flexitarian, or meat eaters for that matter out there, I would say, try the food from here. You couldn't fail to be impressed. I don't know anywhere better quite frankly!

Lovely! - Edit
It’s a small café down a side street very near Sunderland Interchange — I found the café on this app while making the transition from vegetarian to vegan and loved my time there. The atmosphere was very calm and lovely and the staff kind, I overhead the cook talking about her cooking process to a customer and she sounded so passionate about her work which I found really lovely. I’ve visited several times since and strongly recommend their chocolate cupcakes (I would upload an image but I always eat them before I manage to get a photo)

Sunderland’s silver lining! - Edit
Coming from Hackney it is weird to be in an urban environment and not surrounded by vegan options, in fact The Good Apple is the only place we know of in Sunderland that comes close to:being a vegan eaterie! Hurrah for The Good Apple. What I ate, the Vegan special wrap, was good and relatively cheap. Though I did find the addition of a few potato crisps added - as part of the salad? a bit quirky, maybe a nod to the predominant local food culture? the sweet potato chips were nicely done and the raw chocolate cake really excellent.
