Excellent food & value

Tasty, cheap food that's perfect to have after a walk in the peaks. I had the 'steak' and mushroom in gravy with chips and it was delicious. Can also recommend the cinnamon cake and ice cream for dessert. Lovely atmosphere and homely place - staff were really nice too. The service was incredibly quick - we ordered desserts at the bar and they came just as we got back to the table to sit down!

Pros: Good range of tasty food, Very cheap, Friendly staff

Cons: Serves non-vegan alcohol

Cheap, Cheerful, everything you need from a trip down the pub

The quality of the food, the home brewed ale, the atmosphere and the terrific service combined with how ridiculously cheap it is (a meal - under a fiver - a pint of ale £2) makes The Globe very special indeed. I've been looking for a decent vegan pub for 10 years and I found it here. Truly unique and special, you won't be disappointed. My favourite is the Hotpot (being a Lancashire lass) and my boyfriend loves the chickpea curry.

Not so great

Ok, so the pub as a pub is fine. Very old fashion and quite quirky.
Menu is incredibly limited and I really struggled to get excited about very basic choices.
Although the prices are cheap-I couldn't actually bring myself to order anything as it all looked like SLOP when I saw it being brought out for others.

Felt very naff

Pros: old fashion pub

Cons: poor menu, bland food

We visited The Globe for lunch, a group of five, four of us vegan. The menu isn't extensive but there was something that we all liked available and it's all vegan. The menu is based around quite homely cooked food, e.g chilli, curry etc. The portions not huge but we felt about right if you wanted to eat three courses. The prices here are very reasonable. We plumped for the homemade ice cream for dessert which is honestly the best I've tasted as yet.

The atmosphere is a bit strange. The place could definitely do with brightening up, cleaning and decorating. The dried flowers hanging from the ceiling make the place feel darker and I'm sure do nothing but collect dust and dirt! Toilets weren't the best. The bar staff weren't overly friendly either.

We'd all have no hesitation to return though but they could definitely do with making a few small changes.

Great food/Great prices

Despite having lived near to The Globe for years, I only recently went there for the first time - but now I'm hooked. It's a really friendly pub, and the food, although not a huge choice, is really tasty. And they do a range of homemade vegan ice cream in unusual flavours (toasted hazelnut, mocha, tracle toffee) which must be the best in the world.

Pros: Friendly atmosphere, Tasty food/great prices, Best ice cream in the world

Cons: No decaff coffee

Good value/mixed impressions

Ended up here last minute on a weekday after a long dog walk and searching on HC, was excited to see The Globe was nearby as I had heard good things.

Was pleased to hear dogs were welcome, so my friend and I got seated with the dogs who made themselves at home, and I went to order.
Menus and board were oddly hidden opposite/away from the bar but not on tables so I got a funny look when I asked as I hadn't seen them...
The staff member continued to give me funny looks whenever I asked a question and I was pleased when another staff member took over the ordering (but then she continued while standing next to him and then moved where I couldn't see her, but he could, still doing it).
Quite strange and put me off a bit as my first visit... i'm very polite as customers go, as I know some people can be rotten so I don't know what the problem was. :/

We moved outside for a better atmosphere where there was lots of seating and lots of lovely flowers to brighten it up. And a huge canopy over the area so when it began to rain we didn't have to go in- lovely! :)

We had sausage & chips; and spicy mushrooms main meals which weren't huge portions but just right if ordering desert! The chef served us and was lovely in contrast, and asked us how everything was.
Considering the price, and that everything was vegan, I was more than happy with the food. Cost about £13 for two meals, deserts and pints of juice!
(Think the cake- ordered with ice cream- would have been loads better warmed up a little!)

I would still give this place another chance, and especially want to go back for an event and see how the place livens up! With added bonus I can eat something other than chips! Woohoo!

Pros: cheap/good value, nice garden , dogs allowed

Cons: some staff need a bit more customer service traini, food portions may be on the small side to some

Bad humous

I loved this place. I want to run a place like this one day. It's [censored] amazing. It also served me humous so bad I wanted to gag. The chickpeas tasted like they had been soaking in bicarb forever. I'm going to assume it was an off day and give them full marks because the beer was great and they had pac man on tabletop arcade machines. Best pub. Will be back. Make better humous.

Cheap and cheerful!

I loved this pub! First of all, I was happy to see the beer is brewed locally and tastes great. Secondly, I was blown away by the prices; it's really good value and you can get a filling meal and a drink for relatively little money. The hearty pub grub does it's job of filling you up and although it's not the gourmet gastro pub food you may expect, it's very honest British food (e.g. hot pot, stew, chips, sausage sandwiches etc.). You can even get a generous portion of home-made vegan ice-cream!

The best part however is the atmosphere. The staff are really friendly and the place has a down-to-earth charm which makes you feel immediately at home.

Go visit it if you can, especially if you want to combine it with a hike in the local area!

Pros: Locally brewed beer, Down-to-earth, charming atmosphere, Honest British food

Cons: Not the most exciting dishes, Only one draught beer labelled as vegan

Great Vegan Find!

If you are looking for pretentious this is not the place for you. This is an old fashioned pub with hops hanging over the bar and the patrons are young and old. First the drinks are great value for money and if you tell the bar staff what you like they will point you in the right direction..there is no point in picking beer if you don't drink it, just because it is vegan. Pear Cider was out of this world! The food is filling and good quality, more than value for money. If you are looking for a vegan burger with real chips (not frozen) or if you are looking for Vegan Steak and Mushrooms in a Red Wine Sauce this is the place for you. We were also extremely happy with the choice of different "ice creams" to go with the light and fluffy butterscotch cake. Yum!

Pros: Great Food, Lovely Helpful Staff, Value for Money

Cons: None

Amazing vegan pub

I love this place so much, so great to have a completely vegan pub without a salad in sight! The food is also really cheap, some of the starters are less than a pound each, if I remember correctly. The last time I visited (March 2015) they had started serving a range of vegan cakes and ice creams which were delicious, but meant I ended up eating far too much (:

Pros: vegan food, vegan alcohols, nice pub

Cons: 10/10 no cons

cheap and good

all vegan pub which has been busy on the last couple if times I have visited (taking the snake pass as an evening route rather than m62). It's not cordon bleu - rather good vegan comfort grub. last time they were having a banjo sing along. Done well but obviously to a price without frills. good place.

Beautiful experience

My friend and I ate here and it was a really nice experience. It's in an atmospheric old pub full of nice people. All the workers were friendly. The food was fantastic and served by smiling chefs!

It's all vegan pub food - different from anything I've ever had before! They make their own ice cream in many flavours and it's delicious!

A unique experience and great, unusual food! Highly recommended.

Best pub in Greater Manchester...and it's vegan!

Simply put this place is amazing! A great pub, friendly staff and wonderful atmosphere. The vegan food is top notch, my favourites have to be the chickpea curry and the chips and gravy. I have tried everything on the menu and have loved it all, you can't beat the prices as as well (£3 - £4 for a main) The beer is equally as good and reasonably priced. My partner and I travel here at least once a week from central Manchester and it is always well worth the visit!

Pros: Great food at reasonable price, Great atmosphere , Friendly staff

Vegan pub with pub grub and amazing ice-cream

Brilliant to find a totally Vegan pub!
Pub grub like curry and chips, burgers, samosas and spring rolls with dips.
Must try their ice cream - we had the "death by chocolate" and amaretto ones which were both delicious, strong flavours (the most chocolate-y chocolate ice cream we've ever had).
Seating inside and outside.

Pros: Totally vegan, Great ice cream, Pub grub for vegans

Please don't describe this as a "totally vegan pub" as that confuses people. It isn't. The kitchen is vegan. All their beers (except the bottled ones) contain isinglass (from fish). The owners themselves, who brew the beer, are friends of mine and they've confirmed this. So, the bar isn't vegan, but the menu is.

Cheap & good vegan food

Firstly the food is really good, vegan pub food. Things like Sausage, chips and gravy, burgers and a selection of curries are well done and it's nice to get unpretentious vegan food in nice, normal pub.

Secondly the everything, from the food to the booze is dirt cheap. There's several pints for less than £2, you easily get a meal and starter for less than a fiver. Everytime I come here i'm once again taken aback at how cheap everything is. Mega recommended.

Pros: mega nice, mega cheap, mega awesome

Friendly pub with good grub (and beer!)

We visited this evening with non-veg family. We were impressed with the huge range of all-vegan starters, mains, and especially desserts. Between us wevtried the chilli (yum), veg curry (yum yum) , veg burgers (yum yum yum) and something else that I can't remember the name of - but it was yummy anyway...
Butterscotch cake, choc cake and cherry sorbet completed the set (and left us all very full). They ran out of tofu for one of the mains, but told us promptly and offered a free spring roll (yum) as compensation.

It took a few minutes to order because there was just one person behind the bar, but he was very friendly and helpful, and service was speedy once our order was in. Everyone was impressed and we plan to return very soon!

Pros: huge range of homemade pub grub , friendly service and atmosphere, amazingly cheap

If only all pubs were like this one.......

So strange to come from the capital with its hundreds of veggie outlets and thousands of vegans and find an all vegan pub in the middle of nowhere (well ok .... Glossop Derbyshire!) Why isn't there one of these here in Hackney? Great pub food, not a lot of greens but plenty of flavour. And Puddings! and loadsa really good home made ice creams! It made me think that Happy Cow should have an "app" that allows you to put your journey start and end into the site and it then suggests all the vegan friendly places en route! Anyways support the Globe!

Yes please!

Forget the meat substitute dishes (boring...) and go straight for the chickpea curry and the parsnip chips. And the chips. Oh and the pilau rice. I kept talking about the pilau rice for days. Absolute winner, dead cheap (most dishes were around 2-4 pounds), huge selection, nice atmosphere and really friendly staff. It was quite busy when we went (Sunday evening), but we managed to squeeze onto a small table anyway.

Definitely worth the trip to Glossop, or combine it with a hike up Kinder Scout which is absolutely glorious!

Pros: tasty food, super cheap, big choice

Cons: can be busy

Vegan Pub Food!

I'm from Glossop originally and my folks still live there so I always try to get a meal in the Globe when I'm down that way.
It's ridiculously cheap, and so are the drinks. It is possible to get a main course and a drink for under a fiver.
The chickpea curry seems to have gained somewhat legendary status amongst Glossopians. Even my meat-eating mates will go there just for the curry and the accompanying rice alone is amazing.
The chips are hand fried so they taste like proper chips. As it should be!
I've also had the chilli-deluxe in there which is very tasty and the casserole which is lovely too. But I'll always go back to the curry....mmmmmmm
If you are planning to visit then please remember that this is a pub in a small market town, not a fancy restaurant or a Manchester city-centre bar. You sit at pub tables in the pub, which gets busy during the evenings. If you go in the daytime it is nice to sit in their beer garden, which is lovely in the summertime. I wouldn't recommend sitting out there in the evening as it gets crowded with smokers.
However, it's a really friendly place and there is often live music on. They don't allow any idiots in either. It's the kind of place you can go on your own and just start chatting to the people on the table next to you. You can get a main meal or just a snack--they do samosas etc. if you just want to nibble (or if you get the beer munchies!)

Pros: great value for money, friendly, chickpea curry!

Cons: none

The Globe, Glossop

I went here on Monday for the first time with 4 people who have given me massive recommendations re this place.

The place is a pub of the variety that does guest beers and the like. There is a food menu in there and everything to eat is vegan veggie. The prices are also budget friendly.

As a first timer there and with so much to choose as a vegan, I ordered a samosa and a spring roll for a starter. Both were fine. I then had the veggie steak and mushroom casserole type dish with chips and this too was fab (the chips even by them self are great). I then had a chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert.

Interestingly to drink there was some vegan fruit wine available at the bar so I gave that a try also.

I thoroughly enjoyed the lot, even more so at the bargain prices charged. The place itself is a pleasant enough boozer with a relaxed and friendly vibe.

I read the prev reviews on happycow before I went and noted the comment someone made about the loo. I asked the ladies in the group I was with what the ladies loo was like and they told me that it was fine. I went to the gents and I'm not saying by any means that it is the swankiest loo that I've ever been in. It was though no different from what I would expect iin a pub of this type. It was a unanimous agreement in the group of 5 people that I was with that the previous review where the Globe was marked down to 2 out of 5 because of the loo is grossly unfair.

Glossop is also nice little town in the hills if that is your thing. The Globe is approx a 5 min walk from the train station and passes a health food shop on the way should that be useful.

I'd be delighted to eat here again.

Pros: 100% vegan vego, Great food, Bargain prices
