Diverse menu

We stopped in for lunch and ordered the Reuben sandwich, biscuits with gravy, milkshake, a side of french toast and Mac and cheese. The Reuben was delicious, I haven't had one in years, and the milkshake was pretty good. The other dishes were fine, I just wouldn't recommend the biscuits and gravy. Didn't have the greatest texture or flavor. The menu was pretty diverse so I would definitely go again to try other options hopefully with better luck!

Cons: A bit pricey

Shake me Up

I always enjoy the staple experience of visiting Chicago Diner. Their chicken fried stake will always have a place next to my heart. But I would say the experiences really ranges sometimes. BUT, the shakes are always on point. Give me all the shakes.

I usually go for the chocolate chip mint but this time getting the cookie dough really changed things for me I'm rethinking my life.

Wow

The pierogi quesadilla was amazing! Also the tables were socially distanced well. I was impressed with their extensive menu and I'm looking forward to going back!

Such a nice place

Loved everything about this restaurant. The wide vegan options - snacks, main dishes, desserts and also vegan milkshakes! And everything was on point

I love this place

We travel each year, for the past 4 years, from Cleveland Ohio just to eat here. The food is seriously delicious and the strawberry shake was to die for.

Amazing totally deserves 5 stars

My main complaint with this place is some of the service. We had an hour wait to be seated because we tried to book a reservation online and couldn't. We went to a next door bar to wait and gave them our number to let us know when the table was ready. They never got in touch so we came in and they said they gave our table away. It was the last chance to get food before they closed. They said they didn't have our number, yet we were able to clearly point out our number on their computer. After waiting for a few minutes outside we were about to leave and they came out and said we could be seated.

Glad we were able to eat there cause the food was worth the wait. We all shared a big order of NACHOS, TRUFFLE MUSHROOM LENTIL LOAF, COUNTRY FRIED STEAK, GYROS, THE TITANIC BLT BURGER, Chili Cup and Mac & Teese.

The dullest thing was the Mac & Teese which lacked any flavor. I make my own vegan mac and cheese at home and I think they could of added salt and Dijon mustard to give their cheese some tang, some tomato and fake veggie bacon to spruce it up.

Everything else was really good. We had meat eaters with us that were impressed with the burger, loaf and steak.

I also had a Choc Chip Cookie Dough shake that was so thick and creamy, I could not believe it had no dairy in it.

Pros: Amazing shakes can't believe they weren't dairy, Really good food. , Chicago favorites with good fake meat

Cons: Could make it clearer how to book reservations , Staff that seat you could use improvement

A Chicago Classic

Definitely a Chicago classic. Many many vegan options. Honestly, it's a little too greasy/junky for me, but can definitely hit the spot when you wanna get some vegan diner food.

Pros: Milkshakes, Tons of Options

Cons: Greasy, A bit Pricey, Parking

Don’t bother going without a reservation

Showed up without a reservation. Place was empty. They wouldn’t give us a table.

Tasty vegan *junk* food

This restaurant has everything you could ever want! We definitely over indulged and didn't feel great afterwards, but it was worth it. We tried the reuben, the mac and cheese, the buffalo wings (not pictured), and the vegan shake. All of it was delicious. This is the place to go when you're in search of some not so healthy comfort food.

Best vegan shakes in Chicago

They have so many vegan options and whole cakes or slices to die for! Also a great vegan grilled cheese and vegan mashed potatoes and gravy! Not to fond of the black bean burger or seitan though but still trying all the other stuff! A bit pricey as well but great for eating out!

Pros: Shakes , Many vegan options , Vegan Bakery goods as well

Cons: It’s very expensive , Stuff is hit or miss

Inconsistent and Greasy

I have a love/hate relationship with both the Chicago Diner locations. This one isn't as good as the original but my criticisms are the same for both spots. I feel like the quality of food is fairly inconsistent, especially when it comes to how greasy and salty it is. I know that it's a diner so it's not trying to be remotely healthy. That's totally okay. But sometimes I feel like it's at a level that makes me not want to eat their. A lot of the food is pretty mediocre too. The pancakes are usually honestly pretty terrible, and their cinnamon roles are no better than ones that come out of a can.

Their desserts though. Those are the life of this place. The milkshakes, cakes, cheesecake, apple pie, and brownie sundae are all next level. For that reason I will always pop in from time to time.

Pros: Spectacular Desserts

Cons: Not as good as the original, Super greasy and salty

Best of Plant Based!!

YUM-OH!! This place really delivers on vegan comfort food! Second time experiencing this gem and Chicago. This is a must for vegans/vegheads that are visiting!! Second time getting the Poutine- highly recommend ( had it before? try it with waffle fries 😍) Thai wings were beyond good- with a sticky sauce. THE RUEBEN - woah! perfect ratios, THIN sliced ‘meaties’, and a delectable thousand islands (ask for extra- it’s so goood). HIGHLY RECOMMEND splurging for a shake at the end too!!

Everything's vegan by default

Love that at this veggie restaurant, everything is served vegan by default and that dairy cheese is a special request! I've been many times but for some reason only just noticed the fun non-alcoholic cocktails like their Wizard Beer, likely inspired by Harry Potter's Butter Beer. I guess I was always distracted by the amazing vegan milkshakes! Can't say I've ever had a bad meal here, but think they do comfort (junk) food best - burgers, nachos, gyro, etc. Service is always friendly. And they are also almost always swamped, so be prepared to wait.

Pros: Ummm....YUM!

Cons: Always busy, parking in the city

The OG spot

One of my go to vegan spots in Chicago. Never lets me down. Have had many items off the menu, and they’re all fantastic. Make sure you get a milkshake!

Wow!

I loved the wizards brew. It's basically a butter beer from Harry Potter land at Universal Studios in Florida. The milk shake was great too!

Pros: Great milk shakes, Love the wizards brew

It's all good idk 🤷🏼‍♀️ the Reuben is especially good. And their milkshakes are the best. Prefer this location because it's bigger.

Amazing milkshakes

We already had plans to go to the OTHER Chicago diner for dinner but when we walked past this one in the afternoon, we popped in for a milkshake. It was delicious. Friendly staff. Cool 80s/90s vibe to the place.

Very nice

We had a very nice dinner here. We tried the Cuban Sandwich and the Radical Reuben. Both were very good. The Reuben was a bit messy to eat. The Cuban had fried yucca chips in the sandwich. The unexpected crispness of the chips were incongruous and did not harmonize well with the rest of the sandwich.

Awesome food great service

The spinach artichoke dip and seitan B.B.Q. chicken salad was sooo good. We were in a bit of a rush to get to the airport and our food came out very quickly and they brought us the check too. Very cool vibes and LGBTQ friendly 🤗

Pros: Gluten free menu available

Cons: Some items aren’t vegan

Awesome but possible cross contamination

While 8/10 times i don’t get sick, i think they aren’t very cautious about cross contamination with the real dairy they offer. Know this cause I’m allergic to milk. Other than that awesome food.

The OG

If you’re visiting Chicago, go here. Some options are a little too Seitan heavy for my liking but I’d eat the Mushroom Lentil Loaf every day if I could.
