Meat Free in ‘23 - Edit
Right away the smell is amazing. Best sweet potatoes I’ve ever had. So sweet and savory. The tempeh is perfectly prepared, crisp and nutty. Also love the quinoa with chimichurri.

So good! - Edit
I love the food at Chicago Diner - there's so much choice, and the portions are very generous. There's a really nice atmosphere in the restaurant, but it gets pretty busy so you may have to wait a little for a table (it's so worth it!)

Oh my gosh it’s wonderful - Edit
We have high-risk family members so hadn’t been able to go to Chicago Diner since we found it just before the pandemic (we loved it then!).
Read moreDwellSocial is now delivering “ready to finalize/heat” meals to the suburbs and what made me try them was seeing Chicago Diner on the list. Today was our village’s delivery, and it was simply wonderful! I ordered different meals and desserts to try, and today was gyros with Mac ‘n Teeze and carrot cake — easy instructions, everything you need perfectly portioned in the biodegradable box, a few minutes of final prep and it’s all ready!
Amazing flavors, fresh ingredients, perfectly warmed food, and I feel like I’m almost back in the real world after 3 years of grazing and curbside pizza pickup. Thanks Chicago Diner and DwellSocial, you have no idea how happy you’ve made me ☀️

I've been twice now and each time was so so. I think it's such an attraction that the quality or service isn't a priority. I did enjoy my milkshake but took almost 35 minutes before I received it after ordering.

Best Veggie Comfort Food - Edit
This is THE place for veggie comfort food! All of the omnivores who I've brought to eat here have found something to love, so it's an excellent choice when dining with non-vegans/vegetarians. Their brunch is fantastic--my favorite to get is the Monte Cristo Sandwich with a big ol' cinnamon roll! They have the best vegan gyros I've ever had. I always make a reservation, even though they aren't strictly required at the Logan Square location. I personally prefer the Logan Square location, as the restaurant itself is larger and less crowded than the one in Boystown.

Our favorite Chicago Restaurant - Edit
A family favorite, we have been dining at the Lakeview and Logan Square locations for years. We always go to Chicago Diner for special occasions. Some of our favorites include Thai Chili Wingz, truffle mushroom lentil loaf, Buddha Karma Burger, the Titanic (if you have a huge appetite!), the Cuban, the breakfast combo, cinnamon roll and cinnamon roll french toast, chocolate shakes and cakes! We have tried everything on the menu at least once, and the specials are always great. So much to choose from! The service is always great!

Love the food & atmosphere - Edit
One thing that always gets me excited is visiting a meat free restaurant that doesn’t appear as one - which is exactly the case at The Chicago Diner. It’s a typical American diner with amazing vegan food! We had a burger, a Caesar salad and a milkshake and everything was super delicious. The menu is super large so we’ll definitely be back to try more!

Disappointing - Edit
I wanted to love this place. Drove over 3 hours to get to it.
Read moreParking in this area is terrible. $2.50 an hour to park on the street if you can find a spot.
Greeted by a woman that explains that there is a mandatory 20% tip.
Waited a while to place my order despite there only being only 3 other tables occupied. It was more important for my waiter to be complaining to another waiter than to bother waiting on me.
Several employees that just wander around with seemingly nothing to do.
Once the order was placed the food came super quick. The country fried steak did not taste fresh and was very tough, not the correct consistency. Flavor was ok.
All in the bill was $23 for country fried steak and water. Seems very pricey to me.
Pros: All vegan
Cons: Expensive, Not that good, Service

Go for the experience - Edit
It's in a cool neighborhood especially if you're LGBT and the history of the place is kinda of neat. It's cool there was a veg place for such along time in a city that isn't the most veg friendly.
Read moreThe shakes were legit. My milkshake fanatic friend was impressed. The rest of the menu I thought was sort of...outdated?... as far as the fake meat situation goes. We had chik'n (wouldn't recommend) and the Reuben (decent enough).
4 stars because it's some of the best you can get in Chicago.

Finally dined here after 15+ years on the radar! - Edit
Friend bought me a Chicago Diner t-shirt around 2012 after she went, I’d know of them since probably 2000 and always hoped to go one day. 2022 it finally happened! We ended up at their Logan Square location after road construction thwarted a prior Lakeview attempt. They include 20% gratuity on all checks, fyi. Service was good and pretty quick. Tried a Monte Cristo for the first time, tasty!

My favorite sandwich on earth - Edit
My fifth time ordering the Reuben sandwich— it just never gets old. The seitan corned beef is so flavourful and Smokey and chewy, the sauerkraut is served in generous portion, the pickles add a super nice touch, the whole thing is just…a chefs kiss.
Read moreAlso tried the pierogi quesadilla this time. The thiccest quesadilla I’ve ever had. It’s so, so, so good and unique I don’t think I’ve seen it anywhere else. It’s stuffed to the brim with sauerkraut mashed potatoes vegan cheese and pepper sautéed mushrooms. The poutine was good but wouldn’t suggest ordering it over the million other more unique items they serve.
Other items I’ve had before and highly recommend include the brownie sundae, Thai chilli wings, any of the shakes, and the brunch plates. The only thing that could make this spot better is if they got rid of dairy cheese altogether. They’re so close! Everything is default vegan already!
Definitely coming back again and again and again. More and more. Cant get enough. Comfort food at its finest.

Great Shakes! Mostly bland unhealthy food. - Edit
We went there for my birthday family dinner and I was disappointed. Had such high expectations but was let down. Shakes were definitely amazing but I wouldn’t go back for the food. Our waiter must have been having a bad day since he was unfriendly, upset about a tip at the table next to us and didn’t bring us the bill or check on us during the meal.

I'm a huge fan of their food. However, I am not a fan of their desserts, unfortunately for me since dessert is my favorite course. Nonetheless, I love the Chicago Diner experience (excluding the parking situation).
Read moreMy favorites from this location:
Cuban - delicious sandwich made even better when I add their yummy bacon. The bread is always so soft and fresh. The addition of peperoncinis is a nice touch.
TITANIC BLT Burger - with mods I made this quickly became one of my favorite burgers. So good!
Blackened Tofu Salad - was so delicious. That tasty blackened tofu set it off.
Milkshakes - these end up being my dessert. They’re so thick and delicious.
This location is bigger than the OG location. It has a more inviting and modern feel. Good for groups, but carpool, bc…parking.
Cons: Parking

Eat your meal, walk around the block then order a shake! - Edit
As much as I feel like I can eat a meal and drink a shake at the same time, I always fail. Meat free since 1983 is proudly on the wall. This place is lovely! From the staff to the menu, it’s a vegan paradise. Yes, they do offer eggs and dairy cheese but hopefully customers will demand less of that. Of course the Reuben is a classic go to but my last visit I got brunch…without regret. The Mexicana bowl with tofu scramble, beans, rice, and vegan cheese was exactly what I wanted. The shake would have to wait as the portion size was more than I expected. Never miss a chance to take someone non veg to Chicago Diner it will please everyone from sandwich lovers to brunch babies.

Best for bringing your meat eating friends to. So much sugar, fat, and salt that they are mezmerized. Not to mention, recognizable foods for most folks. Also, amazing s'milkshakes!
