Open Mon-Tue 15:00-23:30, Wed-Thu 12:00-23:00, Fri-Sat 12:00-00:00, Sun 12:00-23:00. Kitchen open, Thur 4-9pm Fri-Sat 12-9pm and 12-5pm on Sun only.

Great pub… that happens to be vegan :-) - Edit
Why had we not tried here before? Lived in Newcastle all my life and had my 1st drink here as a teenager! Saw that it was now vegan but taken a while to get to it, but so glad we did. Food was excellent! Lovely live music on a Saturday lunchtime and steady amount of customers. Doesn’t make a big thing of being vegan and appears a very traditional British pub inside. Menu just has ‘zero animal products’ in small font at the bottom. Love how it normalises being plant based. Great quality food and plentiful servings.

Read moreThe food was ok, it’s link with the ship inn is evident here as the menu is very similar if not the same. But the ship did it better. We ate at the ship the night before and I had the “fish” a chips in both but the ship did a better job.
Still worth a visit though even if just for a beer 🍻 or two.
FYI if driving you can park at the front of the pub.

We tried a few dishes and were happy with all of them! Chilli chips, Mac and cheese, soup and shawarma. The shawarma is a highlight. Very friendly staff. Recommend!

Lovely pub. So amazing that everything’s vegan. Visited on a Saturday early evening and it was quite busy but our food came quickly, and was delicious. Managed to squeeze in dessert too, the crumble was gorgeous. We’ll definitely return.

Perfect Sunday Lunch - Edit
Amazing old pub with great character, yummy (entirely vegan) food, local beers, board games and free juke box. The Sunday roast is home made and delicious with an individual pie or nut roast, great range of veg and proper rich tasty gravy. Such a good find, couldn’t recommend it more.

Great service, it was a very busy night in the pub and just before the kitchen was due to close, but one staff member still managed to help find us a table and our food came out quickly. The best mac n cheese I've ever had!!

I went in and was told that I could sit wherever I wanted. I sat down hoping to be able to order some food, but nobody came to my table. After a while of sitting down, with nobody coming to my table and seeing other tables being attended to and served I got up to the bar and asked if I could get a menu. They said that they didn't have any menu, and that what I could get was the alcohol in front of me. I asked if they had any food serving and then they let me know that the kitchen closed 10 minutes ago. I was met with an undifferent look, like that was something I should've known. It would be nice if they told me that when I entered, as it doesn't say on this app nor Google. If I knew, I would have gotten up from my table earlier and perhaps gotten food that day.

Hi, appologies that you received poor service. We pride ourselves on good customer service so I'm sorry we missed the mark on this occasion. I will raise this with the staff involved. As for the kitchen opening times... They are on two very large blackboards as you enter so Im not sure how we could make it more clear. Like pretty much all pubs its service at the bar, we don't offer table service.

I ate here with my partner and we both loved it! He is a meat eater and yet loved the food all the same! We got a variety of food to share, it was all lovely and the server and chef were lovely and accommodating!

My first experience of a vegan pub. What a fantastic place! Great food, friendly staff, cosy atmosphere, Blue Moon on tap and a free-to-play arcade machine with 1000 games on it. If I could move in, I would. Between us we had the tofu "fish" and chips (8/10), the banana blossom "crab" cakes (8/10) and the salt and chilli chips (8/10). Sadly I live a six hour drive away so return trips might be rare but I'll be back some day. An absolute must for visitors to Newcastle

We had a lovely time catching up with family in the Carriage. We were impressed with the friendly welcome and spoiled for choice with the options on the menu. Our group sampled pizza, garlic bread, mac and cheese, salt and chilli chips and nachos and it was all lovely. My daughter has moved to Jesmond so we will be back.

Incredible food. Awesome beer selection. Staff were ultra friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. And just a cool pub atmosphere all round. I wish every pub was like this. We will definitely be back.

Family of 5 all got different but had to try each others. The fish and chips were loved. I had Seiten burger which was fab (1st time I had Seiten I thought it was disgusting) but here it was very good. The pizzas were top too. Healthy mum went for noodles but the stodge won. Large selection of craft beers

Really impressed ‐ food was all really tasty and it let the veggies shine rather than pretending to be meat. We had tacos, buddha bowl, garlic bread and chips. Chips were particularly good!

Tucked away under where the A167 and the A1058 Coast Road meet this is where you will find first class crispy battered banana blossom fish and chips served with mushy peas and serenely delicious mac’n’cheese, mac & cheese or macaroni cheese whatever it’s called. Ask Tony Macaroni, if he even actually exists. A very popular pub indeed judging by the availability of seating outside and in on a barmy late September night. Portion sizes are healthy and Staropramen Czech lager is served in traditional glass jugs with handles. First class pub grub and nothing Zweiter Klasse about it.
