Uhhhh wow - Edit
I wasn’t ready for this. Chicken buffalo bacon ranch. The bacon is nuts ... I’m so full right now and happy. All eaten in a rose garden . What is life ?

Their meat alternatives are sooo dope! Like omg sometimes it kinda scares me in a way that it feels like chicken— but hey, the good thing here is not! I’m glad that this restaurant really helps us get our cravings satisfied— all cruelty free food ❤️ much love to this. Been here like several times now 😊😁

First time here, and so impressed! Extensive menu, and so delicious and creative. Busy midday with line going out the door, but I guess they says something about how good this place is. Super friendly staff. Can’t wait to go back! Is tomorrow too soon?

Officially one of my faves - Edit
I have never had better vegan cheesecake. The burgers were good, but the desserts are out of this world. And also, the market grab and go stuff are great too.

A bay area classic - Edit
The donuts are like and the macaroni salad is addictive, but a lot of the fake meat is rough on more sensitive stomachs.

We ordered the Chicken Parm & the Killer BLAT. The portions are generous and filling. We still enjoyed a slice of cheesecake and a chocolate chip cookie though!

The Butcher's Son - Edit
I am in love...
Read moreThe Butcher's Son is the perfect place to get vegan junk food made of mock meats and cheeses. I also love the no frills atmosphere and quick ordering process, which made this a quick, easy, painless, and extremely tasty dining process.
The moment I walked in here I wanted to order everything, and, well, I sort of did. I started with the vegan philly (without mushrooms) and a side of bacon mac. This was the perfect vegan junk food made with delicious seitan and gooey vegan cheeses. The seitan was sliced super thin which made the sandwich extra tasty overall...I shouldn't have finished it, but I did (I have to run 9 miles tomorrow anyway, ugh!). The bacon mac was seriously good too and the little bacons actually looked like bacon. While I have been vegetarian/vegan for over 30 years, I can't tell you what real bacon tastes like, but I'm sure this was pretty close. My bf got the grinder sandwich with coleslaw and he thought it was OK (I agree) and he was super jealous of my sandwich (which I kindly shared with him). His sandwich was still decent and he ate the whole thing so it wasn't like it was awful, just could have been better.
I also ordered a croissant to go (because I NEVER get to have these), a vegan bacon maple donut, and a vegan cannoli. I definitely did not like the cannoli, I've also never had a real cannoli in my life so I cannot compare to the non-vegan version. The maple bacon donut was extremely tasty, something of which I'll need to eat in moderation to maintain my waistline (thank goodness TBS is in Oakland!!!). And the croissant tasted amazing. Overall, I highly recommend this place and I'll be back on my "bad vegan" days!

That One Bad Experiance - Edit
So the cashier could not understand me when I was talking to her about purchasing a cheesecake at the marketplace. The cashier for the restaurant was not happy to see my family and I arriving late at all. The consumption of the overall cheesecake was not as devourable as other cheesecakes I have purchased or been given. My advice is to not pay attention to the open sign on Happy Cow app and instead call them about their most accurate hours.

Tasty food and love the name - Edit
This has to be my favourite ever name for a vegan eatery. The Butcher's Son is a very lively place and the food is very tasty. Basically fake meats in a sandwich. I found it filling but expensive but at a price not too dissimilar from prices of similar others I've been to in California. I'd recommend and would probably go back. The garden out the back is beautiful.

Deli-cious! - Edit
The Butcher’s Son has to be one of the most original and exceptionally executed ideas I’ve been witness to regarding vegan cuisine. Their menu is vast, literally never-ending. They produce their own “lunch meats,” including chicken, roast beef, and turkey. I ate vegan Gorgonzola cheese - it tasted just like the real thing. Still can’t get my head wrapped around this. I’m Italian, and can’t tell you the last time I had a cannoli, but theirs was ON POINT. The Hot Lemon Chicken with pesto is one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten, period. If you’re a vegan foodie, hell, if you’re a human being, you have to make the trip to Berkeley and dine in plant-based bliss.

Buffalo Bacon Ranch Friend chicken Sandwich - Edit
Best bacon replacer I've had since going vegan 2 years ago and I've tried a lot. I don't know how they do it but the texture is awesome. Sandwich is large, delicious and worth the $$ and the wait in line.

Great to have so many choices - Edit
I had a tasty BLT sandwich and set out back in the lovely garden. Had to wait a bit, though it was worth it. Like most vegans/vegetarians, seeing so many choices is a pleasant surprise, though, as it is so unusual, it can be a little daunting at first.

Awesome! - Edit
The best compliment I can give this place is to say that it is worth the inevitable, and sometimes very long, wait. The new location is so much better, but I swear they could pack a place twice the size. My favorite is the Hot Garlic Lemon Chicken Pesto sandwich. They have the best vegan bacon as well. Can’t wait to go back!

Oh man...
Read moreI was in town to do some chef trainings and heard this was the vegan spot to hit up.
They warned me to go hungry and not plan on eating anything else for the day, so I went in the morning before getting on a flight back east.
They were right!
The food was super good, and super rich!
Alt meats deep-fried, then put in a sandwich! Holy happy cow!
This place is unique to the vegan world in there original style and menu.
Pros: Great flavor, Rich beyond words, quality
Cons: so full... still so full , so many choices!

This place is amazing. My partner and I spent a couple weeks in Berkeley and ate here almost everyday. I don't understand how they make such phenomenal cheese! We love all their sandwiches, some of them are so big we could have half for lunch and half for dinner. If your appetite can manage it, the cookies and brownies were also really good.
