So nice to have an all vegan menu! - Edit
Great options- I’ve been here a few times!! It’s so refreshing to be able to order anything off of a menu that it’s almost overwhelming!! The quest was perfect the first time I went but a bit iffy the second time which was months later so I’m not sure if anything changed or just me. The drinks are al creative and very very good and the atmosphere is so so cozy!

I’ve never been let down! - Edit
Their food is always excellent, no matter what it is. The messy sloppy is definitely my favorite. Next on my list would be the sushi when they’re having that as a special. I just wish that item weren’t so expensive. All the normal menu items are extremely reasonably priced, their cocktails are great too! Very creative and fairly priced. The people here are so so nice and make great conversation. Sometimes service is a little slow, but I think it’s worth it.

Worth the Trip - Edit
You're vegan. You came to Colorado Springs for Pikes Peak or the Garden of the Gods or the museums or any number of other cultural attractions.
Read moreBut where can you relaxedly dine without questioning the contents of your food and drink?
The Burrowing Owl is a quaint cafe situated at the end of a strip mall. About 10 tables indoors and a few in a covered section outdoors, with a long bar area. The tables are irregularly shaped polished rustic wood cross-sections. Little curios and adornments (such as a book collection with an assortment of owl statues) were variously scattered about. The ambient lighting provided enough radiance to create a sedate feeling, while offering enough luminescence to read the cleverly presented menus.
As for the menus: Several pages of beers and mixed drinks to satisfy the traveler seeking the exotic. (I confess to never before experiencing a drink with "coconut vinegar" as an ingredient. Intriguingly refreshing.)
The food menu offered a vast variety of snacks, appetizers, and a broad assortment of entrees and daily specials, as well as enticing desserts. I asked the senior waiter (who accompanied his trainee) the following: "What would you recommend for the first time diner here to tell his vegan friends about back home?"
He suggested anything with the queso, and pointed me toward the Sloppies. I went for the Pueblo: an open-faced Sloppy, with queso, beans, chili, relish, red onion, and vegan mayo.
He steered me right. Powerful bite, but not palette burning, and substantial enough to fill a hungry stomach without overwhelming it.
My wife went for the nachos and added some quac, which was the right move. I confess to cooling my tongue on some of that quac and only wish they threw a dollop of it on my plate, too.
One final nicety: It's dog-friendly. Saw three folks there with their dogs, including a cowboy with his well-behaved German shepherd. Tweens seemed to be playing some kind of skittles game quietly off to the side. The music complemented the homey feel without dominating it.
So, fellow travelers, worth the search for this dining experience. And, afterwards, since you're there already, check out the other sites Colorado Springs has to offer. Maybe you'll build back a thirst and an appetite for another round at the Burrowing Owl.
Pros: Great variety of drinks, Flavorful and substantial food offerings, Cool, relaxed ambience
Cons: Spicy food needs a dollop of guac!

This guy is really a manager here? - Edit
i walk in - wow. Beautiful place. Waitress was greeeat she even Sat with us & gave us recommendations, food comes out & great, both taste & presentation, then my waitress goes on break, I’m ready to order dessert & I call over the male server who took over the table, I ask him ,"I'm curious about this raspberry, acai. chocolate ice cream bar-can you elaborate a bit?" (On menu it exactly says following RasberryAcaiChocolateIceCreamBar) this dude responds , " umm raspberry, acai, chocolate, bar-that’s it " he literally repeated the exact 5 words on the menu description, then I replied " I work in this industry and those 5 ingredients can be presented like 10 different ways" I went on to explain " it could be a bar with a raspberry spread on top or a raspberry & acai ice-cream inside or acai ice-cream with fresh raspberries on top & as the customer I would've liked to know more before ordering" this dude responds " uh no U have an imagination" then he walks away and I'm angry , I ask my friends "who talks like that?", dude returns & asks "how was it?" I honestly ignored him as I was livid. This dude proceeds to clean up around me & then has the audacity to say what made me lose my cool, "was there anything in my description that I could've said better?" I told him "come over here closer" he got closer & I told him "go F#$k yourself we just want to pay & leave" then he in shock says,"but why I was just asking how I could do better?" I replied and I’m sorry but i LOST IT "i think you’re the most *bleep* server I’ve ever met" he said "that type of terminology isn’t used here" then i said "would U prefer if i said i believe U are either missing a chromosome or have an extra one or would it make U feel better if i said i think U have a chemical imbalance?" He remained shocked Then I told him ,"ok let's start from the beginning, I'm the customer I ask U to elaborate on my desired dessert & your elaboration was to REPEAT THE EXACT 4 WORDS ON THE DESCRIPTION BACK TO ME, THEN WHEN I TOLD U THE MANY WAYS THIS CAN BE PRESENTED U THEN SAID I HAD AN IMAGINATION-now on the menu it says ice cream bar!" I pointed to my dessert which is a ice-cream on a popsicle stick in a cup & I asked him "does this look like a bar to U or an ice-cream on a stick in a cup?" Then I said, "when I asked u to elaborate, this is one of the 10 things u could've told me" he proceeded to to attempt to defend himself then I stopped him and said "Iemme speak to your boss" he replied, "I'm the manager" I couldn't believe it.

The Burrowing Owl Lounge is an awesome all vegan restaurant and bar with great food and cocktails. We were visiting the area and found with the HappyCow app. They had a Monday sushi special that was so good. I haven’t had sushi since going vegan and it really made my day. My wife had the Pueblo Sloppy, an open faced sloppy joe with queso, peppers, and other toppings. If everything else is as tasty as these dishes, I don’t think you can go wrong with anything here. We also had a couple cocktails that were really well done with their own house made mixers.

I heard about this spot through Instagram and knew I had to check it out if I ever went to Co Springs. Thus I was very excited when my trip had me going through. The cocktails are very reasonably priced, and the food was delicious. The Mac n Cheese is SO good! But after placing our drink order I overheard the waitress say to another, “ugh, do you think that’s real?!” and looked at me with dagger eyes. Which I can only think she was referring to my jacket that had a faux fur trim. If I wasn’t so excited to try this place I might have thought about leaving. If they truly believe the “All are Welcome” sign on the door they should keep their judgmental comments out of earshot. I’m vegan, but if I weren’t it would have only confirmed the belief that vegans are overly judgmental and therefore turn people off from veganism.

A bar as a soulmate? - Edit
Seriously. This bar is the everything my quasi-hipster heart wants in a bar. I cannot believe I haven’t reviewed them yet.
Read moreFirst off, order the Ranch Salad. I get that it seems boring and lame, but there is something magical they do to it that is unlike any other basic salad you will ever eat. Pickled onions, to start.
Secondly, all their food is some variation of stoner-approved ingredients. Mostly everything can be smothered in cheese sauce or sloppy joe mix, and I ain’t mad. I ain’t even a stoner but the food is that comforting, doesn’t even matter.
The staff is friendly and the real deal. The drinks are fast and unapologetic. The food is down and dirty kind of good. Eat your heart out. Truly.
