All Vegan ... All Delicious ... The place we've been waiting for!! - Edit
Thai Vegan has only been open about 3 wks and word has spread around SATX like wildfire!! And for good reason.
Read moreThe food here is ALL VEGAN, "Healthy First," mostly organic, mostly gluten-free, and far as we can tell 100% fantastic!! NO MSG!! Authentic and delicious!!
Huge menu where we can choose *anything*!! Do you get that?? ANYTHING! Vegans dining out in TX don't get that option often. It was hard to choose!!
Appetizers, soups, salads, all the traditional Thai dishes we've never tried elsewhere because they're never vegan. We even realized later that we can try the Thai tea that's usually served with dairy milk. Not used to this! AWESOME!!
Started w/green curry since it's a favorite Thai dish of ours. Got an extra plate of steamed veggies to mix in so we could split our strong n tasty green curry veggies w/tofu option - perfect!!! Came with steamed brown rice. YUM!
Veggies are cut and cooked just right! A little tofu w/lots of veggies for a change. LOVE that! Silken (?) tofu, crispy outside, soft and creamy inside - heavenly!
Persnickety vegan chef hubs and I can't stop talking about it!! We mostly eat at home these days. Healthier and better than anything we can get out. Thai Vegan serves the food we would make and eat at home if we knew how. (He's been learning.)
Clean and healthy, beautiful and satisfying, we can't say enough about this wonderful gift that has come to our city just in time for the festive holiday season. Celebrate!
We figure to eat our way through the menu which features several vegan 'meats' we haven't tried yet. Foods that look and taste like animal parts don't really appeal to us. However, I will be trying the potato-based 'shrimp', for sure. (I was never a meat-lover, however seafood... yeah.)
The decor is simple, clean, casual and inviting. Very Feng Shui. We loved the comfortable atmosphere with pretty, instrumental (classical!) Christmas music playing, just loud enough to enjoy.
The owner, Chef Pat, is so very welcoming! Gave him our Happy Cow 5-star Excellent Reviews sticker at the end of this very first meal. Yes, we did. Not something we've ever done before.
Even the water tastes fresh and filtered? Didn't taste like tap water.
Don't miss this gem! Thai Vegan is the restaurant we've been waiting for!!!
Added by hubs: Meat-eaters could probably enjoy eating here, too, and be totally satisfied.
Pros: HUGE menu of choices!! ALL healthy and VEGAN!!, Delicious, authentic Thai dishes, NO MSG!!, Pleasant atmosphere, friendly service, comfy!!

An honest review - Edit
This review saddens me to write because I was really hoping to love this place.
Read moreWhen I got there there was a mask sign and it said to go only. Mask is fine I get it but it’s the only place in SA I know of that still enforces masks. The inside is still closed so it’s take out only. Idk I just feel like it’s been two years and they’re using COVID as a crutch. I’ve heard this place is suffering so I wanted to support them, but it almost seems like they’re making it hard for themselves.
Menu prices were ridiculous but I was there and wanted to try it and happy cow has great reviews. My total was 40 dollars.
I tried the orange chicken first. It was $16. Crazy expensive. The chicken was actually really good as well as the sauce flavor but the pieces were pretty small. I could eat it in one bite. Additionally, there was only about 10 pieces and the sauce was very thin so it pooled at the bottom of the to go box. I was afraid it would easily spill out because of all the liquid. Veggies tasted frozen and mushy. I really expected more than 10 Vite sizes pieces for a crazy $16 dollars. It came with rice but it was unseasoned and desperately needed salt but because it was to go there was none provided which sucked. I ate in my car so I had to wait to eat the rice when I got home so I could add salt.
The chicken satay with peanut sauce was very good. It’s 5 strips of tofu of sticks. I was hoping to get more for the $9 as it looks like it’s about 1/3 block of tofu all together but it was still good, just expensive for the amount. This was the tastiest item I ordered and do recommend this if you go.
I came specifically for the wonton noodle soup. It came in a large plastic container. It was around $12 which again seems like a high price for some soup. When I opened it and ate it I was so disappointed. There were only 3 wontons that I could count and the rice noodles completely broke apart the second you tried to pick them up with chopsticks/a fork. Additionally, the wontons crumbled the second you poked them. Like the completely disintegrated. It was so sad. The broth flavor was good but the ingredients became a mushy mess. The veggies tasted mushy and frozen as well. I took a couple bites and literally threw it all away it was all mushy and a disgusting texture. I could have saved the broth but because everything broke apart I would have to strain it multiple times and it didn’t seem worth the effort for a cup of veggie broth.
$40 down the drain 😔
Pros: Nice staff
Cons: Expensive, Mushy frozen food

Excellent review! $40 is insanely expensive. I’m skipping this place and sticking with Plantology while in SA. The Covid nonsense with masks and no dine-in is enough reason for me to boycott these places. I’ve been traveling cross country and this phenomenon is particular to Asian restaurants. The common thread seems to be a new take out business model with as little staff as possible. The solution? Do not support take-out-only businesses! I never get take out. I only frequent restaurants when I want a dine-in experience or when traveling. I generally prefer my own cooking and it’s cheaper. People who spend lots of money to bring take out food home blows my mind!

Sadly, I wont go back - Edit
I wish this place lived up to the hype. It's just too greasy and "thrown together". I don't feel like there's any art or much thought in the execution of the dishes. Maybe it's just what I've tried there, be several times I couldn't even eat what I bought. 😔

Thai classics with meat substitutes! - Edit
Stopped by yesterday to try them out and was pleasantly surprised! I love Thai food and this place has all the classics plus because they're vegan let you get your meat substitutes. I got their spicy noodles with soy shrimp, their "chicken" satay and even a Thai iced tea! All 100% vegan and delicious! I was particularly blown away by their "shrimp". Amazing how they made those! They really look like shrimp and it made me second guess them. LOL! Sadly there's no dine in right now and they don't have outdoor seating but at least you can get your orders to go!

Good choice - Edit
I have eaten here three times and tried a few dishes. It’s a solid alternative to regular Thai food. The red curry is better reheated as leftovers which is impressive.

Yum! I enjoyed the yellow curry which came with brown rice, garden salad, and spring roll. Everything was delicious and generous portions, enough for a good lunch and some leftover for dinner later. The curry was perfectly spicy and flavorful. Can't wait to come back ☺️

I love this place. I could eat here every day and not get bored with its huge menu and variety of Thai and western dishes. The Tom ka soup and papaya salad would be the two things I would choose to exist on for the rest of my life!

Get the Spring Rolls - Edit
Love this little place! Very cute inside and the people here are so nice. My mom got the spicy mixed vegetable plate and loved it, I got the Praram’s plate and it was also incredible. The real show stopper was the spring rolls, so next time we will order an appetizer of it.

We've been a few times. Literally everything we've tried is tasty. Our kids really enjoy the food so it's on our short list of places to go.
