Limited options that suck - Edit
I love the idea of this place but was severely disappointed by the food. I got the chipotle ranch tacos with tofu and was immediately appalled by the tofu upon the plate arriving, however, I was willing to give it a try and put my judgment aside. I did not even finish chewing the first bite. The tofu was bland and the flavors of the dish didn’t mend well whatsoever. I typically will give places a couple of gos before dismissing them but our server asked how our food was and then only acknowledged the person who said they enjoyed their food. I paid fully for the dish that I took ONE bite out of (then spit back out into my napkin) and decided this is the first and last time I’ll be dining at Taproot.

Bland Bowl - Edit
I asked if the Curry Bowl (cauliflower, chickpeas, dates, snap peas, pumpkin seeds, kale, house-made curry, and toasted coconut) was vegan. The server looked at the menu, and then said it was vegan because the name was green. However, other non-vegan menu items were also green. My partner ordered the Spicy Bowl, but was also served a Curry Bowl. We were given big portions of curry, but it wasn't very flavorful.

Not great breakfast - Edit
There are some standard after 11am options available and maybe bowls but the breakfast option with a $5 upcharge for tofu and veggie sausage wasn't worth it. The English muffin came out covered in butter. I'd avoid this place for vegan breakfast unless you're here with a group. The flavors and the food was fine but I didn't feel like it was trust worthy.

Delicious food!! - Edit
This place is so cute and the food was absolutely incredible!!! I came here last month and got the Davocados with vegan Chipotle ranch which were really good. The Chipotle ranch tacos with veggie crumbles took the cake though! Some of the best tacos I've ever had! The bowls looked fantastic as well! My friends got a couple and I ALMOST wish I would've got one of those. So colorful and they said it was amazing too.

The sprouts are the best! - Edit
Vegan husband loves their burgers and always get the flash fried Brussels Sprouts on the side. Sometimes we go just for sprouts and cocktails.

Lots of vegan option, all of them are marked well. They sell a “community bowl” where you can make a donation to feed the homeless.

Limited vegan options - Edit
I love this place but it really needs to work on its vegan menus. Their drinks are great and so I end up here often. The vegan options on their lunch/dinner options are limited to tacos and bowls, which are really good but if you’re not in the mood for either you’re stuck. Their breakfast/brunch menu is even worse for vegans—only two açaí bowls.

Went today for my first time and loved it! The vegan/plant based items are highlighted in green on the menu for easier looking so you don’t have to read every single thing to death. I ordered tacos with tofu with a yummy vegan ranch and shared the fried brussel sprouts with a friend.

My favorite appetizers! - Edit
There are many vegan options here, although i’ve only tried several things. The D’avocados and Roasted Broccoli (you might have to ask for them) are hands down my favorite! The D’avocados are like a creamy-on-the-inside fries, and they’re a little bit better for you! The Roasted Broccoli is cooked so that the top of it is crispy crunchy and topped with a pinch of salt. They also come with a house-made vegan chipotle sauce. I think the the waiters here are nice! Sometimes you might need to wave them down, but they still take their time to help you. I love this place and highly reccomend it!

Not great. Uninformative staff - Edit
Food was OK. We came in at 8:30 with minors. When we had our food and were ALREADY EATING they told us we had to leave because they turn into a Bar at 9pm. So we had to box everything ourselves and leave. We couldn't even sit outside. The staff should have let us know BEFORE when we SAT down that we would not be able to stay since we had people under 21. Maybe they should stop seating minors after 8? Seems unorganized and rude.

I eat here whenever I’m in town! - Edit
The teriyaki burger (on the house made vegan burger) is to die for! It is so good I can’t bring myself to even try something else (because I don’t get to Salem very often). I know they have other items that are tasty, because people I’ve gone with always enjoy their food as well, I just can’t tell you what they had. Lol They use the daily juice pulp to make their house made vegan burgers so not only are you getting a great meal, but you are also reducing “waste”! Whenever I hear of someone traveling through, I always say “GO TO TAPROOT!” (Drooling!!)

Staff so bad we didn’t wait for the food - Edit
Waitstaff were either new or just incompetent. Had to be asked multiple times for a spoon to stir coffee. Couldn’t find my tea and then forgot about. Told us brunch was at 9 (it was 9:20 and not ready yet) we continued to ask and he kept saying it would be ready anytime. We then overheard it actually started at 10. He didn’t even know what was in it and wasn’t really interested in finding out. May try again but this was not a good introduction.

Love this Place!! - Edit
I would give this place 5 stars. But since they aren't completely vegan happy cow doesn't let me. However they are VERY knowledge on what vegan means. They have wonderful fried avocado tacos and two vegan ranches! And vegan mayo! And they clearly list their other vegan options on the menu. They have a great selection of beer on tap and super friendly staff! This is always my go to place for a beer and great vegan food in downtown Salem!
