Amazing experience - Edit
So happy to have found this little restaurant on the hill. I had a super yummy Mediterranean sandwich. Wish that I could go back to try all of their options. Pancakes and banana cake also rocked.

Amazing Smoothies/Smoothie Bowls! - Edit
This cute little hide-away cafe has an excellent selection of smoothies and bowls. The portion sizes are generous and the smoothies were fulfilling and tasty. You can also choose your own toppings for the smoothie bowels. Come here with friends and relax, or make use of their free Wi-Fi and settle-in for a productive afternoon of work.

Pros: Generous portion sizes, Quiet, Nice vibe

Terrible Ice Cream - Edit
I stopped by this café for some vegan ice cream. I asked for two scoops of lychee, but the cashier ended up giving me the full pint. In the moment, I thought that she was just being nice, but when I went to dig into my ice cream I saw that the pint was freezer burned beyond recognition and she was just trying to get rid of it. What a waste of $5.

Acai Bowls, and more - Edit
Sweet Cane Café is a bright and quaint restaurant, with comfortable seating and nice décor inside. Also, pleasant wait staff.
Read moreThe place was busy around lunch time, and parking was a little difficult. We greatly enjoyed acai bowls, customized to our individual tastes. The taro burger, not so much. As described by others, it was mushy and flavorless. Perhaps not the best way to serve taro.
They have a great variety of items on the menu, and I love that they say that they can all be made vegan, so would love to return to try many of them.
This is the sort of place that leaves me scratching my head wondering why they haven't gone all in vegan, yet.
Pros: Acai bowls, Can veganize everything on the menu, Prices not bad for Hawaii
Cons: Taro Burger

Good healthy options - Edit
This was our first stop in Hilo based on the reviews, especially the one that specified the best raw option around. This is not a raw cafe, as the pictures show cooked food. We ordered a sandwich, the taro burger, and the vegan Caesar salad- the salad won out. The burger was not really a burger but more a scoop of mashed taro between a bun, but the sandwich was ok. The staff were helpful, friendly and prompt, and the smoothies looked incredible. We didn't have room for a smoothie but would definitely return for the salad and to try a smoothie.

Cons: The burger wasn't great, even if filled with love, Uninteresting location, cafe sits on a parking lot

Wonderful, healthy, fresh food - Edit
Excellent healthy fare at reasonable prices. The nori wrap with macadamia nut paste and avocado was incredible. The fritters were also great, and the raw fruit cake made with cherimoya, coconut, and passion fruit was out of this world. Fruits and veggies are organic and local. Highly recommend.

Awesome raw vegan cafe - Edit
Our family seeks out great raw vegan restaurants. This place is one of the best. Great selections, awesome ingredients, and perfect presentation. Too bad we live 5000 miles away! But we made sure to come here several times during our stay on the island, even with the 2 hour plus drive from Kona.

Pros: Great selections, Good price, Excellent presentation
Cons: In Hilo Hawaii. Far far away, Did I mention it is out of the way?

Terrific food. - Edit
The location is small, but good use is made of the space. The cafe was busy with locals and tourists-- all appeared satisfied with their selections. I found the staff helpful and friendly, and my food was delicious. I have already been back once and will definitely return again.

Best Smoothie in Hilo...But don't come too hungry - Edit
I really love Sweet Cane and I believe that they have the best Smoothies in Hilo. Smoothies are refreshing and they have some unique combinations. Their sandwiches are also really good. It's not that their prices are expensive, but I think it is kind of pricey (even by Hilo standards) FOR WHAT YOU GET. The sandwiches are small/average size, but do not come with any sides.
Read moreI eat there often and really enjoy their food. It's worth a visit, but I wouldn't come here if I was really really hungry. Everything is fresh and yummy. Perfect place for a light lunch or maybe to grab a snack to take to the beach.
There is limited indoor and outdoor seating and staff is friendly.
Pros: SMOOTHIES, TARO BURGER, AVO SANDWICH
Cons: PORTION SIZE vs. PRICE

An interesting diversion - Edit
We stopped here for an early lunch on our way through town. The menu is basically just smoothies and sandwiches, but there’s enough variety to satisfy any vegan or vegetarian. The café uses organic ingredients that they grow locally. We enjoyed tasty smoothies and sandwiches. While waiting for our food, we enjoyed reading the posters and announcements about local produce and events. Organic sugarcane juice and other refrigerated to-go products are also available. The café is small with about only three tables. But, there was sufficient space for the guests when we were there.

Cons: Small location; limited seating, Limited menu
