High end dining experience in London - Edit
We went to Studio Gauthier on a Saturday evening, having made a reservation through their website. The restaurant is in great central location for the West End. We sat on a lovely terrace, shaded on a hot sunny August evening. We each ordered the omakase sushi experience, which was amazing. There was a really nice variety of tastes and creative flavour combinations, and the chance to try vegan salmon and tuna style sushi. For dessert we shared an earl grey shortbread, which came with a vanilla cream and berry sorbet. The staff were lovely and the service was prompt. Absolutely cannot fault it. It was not cheap, but not very expensive for London prices either.

Good food, not so good ambience - Edit
The food was delicious but the setting/ambience was odd. We were seated in a comfortable booth but we were facing an empty room through a glass wall. Another business? It just made it not very cozy. Plus our backs were to the activity of the restaurant so we couldn't see wait staff unless we turned around 180 degrees, though they were attentive and pleasant.

Interesting - Edit
Stumbled upon this place by accident but was pleasantly surprised.
Read moreI should probably add this as a disclaimer: I don’t know who Alexis Gauthier is and I don’t intend to find out.
With that out the way, I like the fusion aspect of their cuisine. It’s a fresh twist on things you know in a stylish, shabby chic and slightly minimalist interior.
We tried a lot of things and were not disappointed. Popping flavours, interesting combinations and on point presentation.
The slightly disappointing aspect for me personally was the size of the portions, granted the dishes aren’t very expensive so you can easily get two mains, but even that wouldn’t necessarily cut it for me.
Their menu isn’t huge, so if you’re a picky eater (which I am definitely not) you might have trouble finding something you like.
Overall definitely recommend.

Great addition to London scene - Edit
I’ve been here for dinner twice and lunch once. There’s a set fine dining menu and a more casual menu offering many of the things that were available at 123V in Fenwick (now closed down). The fine dining is, of course, nothing like Gauthier Soho itself but there are some very interesting and exquisite dishes. Reasonably priced too.
Read moreI would strongly recommend this place. My only suggestion for improvement: the place can lack atmosphere. I’m not an interior designer but the way the place is laid out, the design etc could be revisited to creat a bit more energy and vibrancy.

Food is similar to original Gauthier's, but the menu is shorter and there are menuless options. We had the menu and it was really good. Special mention to the scrumptious brioche!

Sublime - Edit
One of the best vegan meals I’ve eaten in any restaurant around the world.
Read moreNext-level flavours, textures and presentation, and really generously sized serves too (especially the salad) - no tiny plates with a single mouthful here.
The sushi (pictured, in part) was the standout but everything was incredible. We were totally stuffed and 100% satisfied by the end.

This is the new location from their old store in Fenwicks and it absolutely does not disappoint. The staff are attentive and on it - we got the bottomless sushi and honestly they only kept offering more, even catering to very specific requests!

DELICIOUS! We tried the tasting menu (we took advantage of the 2 for 1 offer) and wow. Really worth it. The staff was friendly, especially Nolan.
Read moreWe were delighted to try brand new dishes, as well as some of our favourite sushi from 123V (Green dynamite!!) The vegan caviar was so so good, I also loved the brioche which came with the faux gras. I could go on and on about the positives, we will certainly be back.
Our only suggestions would be to have a menu of non-alcoholic drinks available, and to make sure that all staff is able to explain the ingredients of each dish. But we reckon some of the waiters are pretty new, so that makes sense.
All in all, highly recommended for vegans and meat eaters alike (they have 3D printed vegan meat!) #Veganuary
Pros: Tasting menu, Original ingredients, Classy and refined
Cons: Expensive, More non-alcoholic drinks needed, Better explanations of dishes

Studio Gauthier - Edit
Oooooh, this is a tough one for me, a 3 or 4? I rounded up because they are 100% vegan, but I am on the fence with the rating, really.
Read moreFood for Thought:
What are we expecting here? Are we expecting Gauthier at Studio Gauthier? It's important to keep in mind they are different restaurants and concept, with the former being more affordable and with accessibility to elevated cuisine and the latter being a Michelin star restaurant serving up vegan perfection.
There were positives:
The bill was drastically cheaper.
It was easier to get a reservation.
The food was still very creative.
But did I like everything and/or was I blown away? Not completely.
While the brioche was amazing...the server took away the bowl of veggies that came with it before we were finished, which was odd and very wasteful.
The Redefine Meat was overcooked and it tasted burned. I know Redefine Meat doesn't always taste like this, so someone made a mistake in the kitchen.
The potato dish was very tasty.
Everything else wasn't very memorable.
Will I be back? Not in the near term... But I may give them another shot once they are more established / have been open longer.
Based on the taste/quality of the brioche, I'll definitely be back to try the bakery!

Fantastic tasting menu - Edit
We visited here in august, shortly after the restaurant had opened and got an offer (sign up to newsletter and follow on social media) for 30% off (there was also a 241 offer) as part of their new opening. Booking was essential & particularly if you want a table in the courtyard area which most people seemed to want to do. The staff were very nice and the staff and vibe was relaxed, although service could do with a little finessing (they were still being trained up). We got a tasting menu each and got one of each of the mains options that came with it. The courses ranged from very good to excellent, with the faux gras and brioche being one of our favourites, along with the sushi and caviar. The 3d meat was a bit too realistic for my liking but still very good. They didn’t have any non alcoholic beers stocked at the time. We really liked the fun 80s soundtrack. It’s nice to have fancy vegan food in a relaxed atmosphere

Good, not great - Edit
Quite a mixed experience. The food was interesting and inventive, but maybe a bit gimmicky. We ordered 4 dishes and I would probably order 2 again. I ate at gaulthier Soho a few months ago which was amazing, but felt the studio didn't quite hit the mark. It could have been improved with really simple changes. The staff were really friendly but a bit ineffective. They took our dessert order, and brought the dessert over, before clearing away our mains. We had to actually ask them to take the plates from our mains away when the dessert arrived which was odd. We were never asked if the food was okay, even though we left half the dessert uneaten. The music was very 90s pop/ r&b heavy which I like, but it didn't match the table settings or ambience. I'm a big fan of gaulthier though, so would give it another go in a few months once they sort out some teething issues.

Amazing - Edit
Had a two for one deal on the tasting menu and what a wonderful experience it was. Every dish was tasty and well cooked. We thought that the appetisers of quiche Lorraine and garlic and lemon arancini couldn't be bettered. Maybe they weren't but everything that followed was just as good. The staff were friendly and very efficient.

OMG this is mind-blowing. Life-changing food! - Edit
It is a challenge to underplay how amazing this was as an experience. We had the 7 course tasting menu and as a long-term Vegan, the deep memories it evoked from before renouncing animals as food were powerful: salmon ceviche, fois gras with brioche...and the 3D printed wine-braised brisket (wow!), all delicious often alarmingly 'real' (my intellect knew what I was eating, but my senses and memories didn't). It is rare that an experience is both sensually delicious and intellectually and emotionally challenging (in a good way!). If you can get someone to treat you for a special occasion, they definitely go!

New restaurant by Alexis Gauthier - Edit
This is the new restaurant by Gauthier. It brings together some dishes from his fine dining restaurant and 123v. There is also a bakery.
Read moreThe result is a little odd as you have sushi alongside French dishes.
You can opt for the tasting menu or a la carte.
We had the ‘caviar’ (nice but expensive for the portion size). Dragon rolls, sushi tacos (highly recommend these) and the pithivier (my partner’s fave).
Recommend this restaurant if you don’t want the formality of the Soho townhouse but want to experience the amazing food.
Pros: Waving the flag for vegan fine dining.

Fantastic staff. Food not quite as good as expected - Edit
We went for the tasting menu. All courses except one were delicious however there became quite a bit of a wait when they got particularly busy then my food was well overdone and not so tasty. As the staff are so lovely and they were really busy we didn't mind too much but it would have been nice to be offered a complimentary drink as a sorry for the wait.

Adventurous cuisine, relaxed dog-friendly atmosphere - Edit
We sat outside on the terrace which is in a kind of courtyard between office buildings but feels surprisingly peaceful and secluded, at least in the evening.
Read moreWe decided to order from the a la carte menu and as there were three of us we were able to try all three large plates, all of which were excellent I thought. Everything here is creatively seasoned and tastes different from what I've experienced before. I had read an enthusiastic report of the pithivier with mushrooms, but we thought the chard dish with anise was even more interesting. The blackberry salad accompanying the pithivier is also memorable.
My sushi starter was also fine (there isn't as big a selection as at 123V but still several to choose from). A side salad was generous with a tasty dressing, and my companions (including the dog) thought highly of the sourdough bread. A pavlova-type dessert was generous enough for the two people who were interested and the strawberry topping was the main event rather than an afterthought.
The staff were extremely kind and helpful as well as efficient. I will definitely be back - it's a bit beyond my usual budget but nonetheless good value considering the thought and work that goes into it. If you get on the mailing list you will be sent special offers. I'd like to try the bakery at the front which I think operates as a café during the day.
