food good, service bad

I've been here a few times now, for their lunch menu and for dinner. The food is always good, if expensive (except at lunch) but the staff are almost always rude. To the point I don't want to go back. The atmosphere is okay but a bit dead.

Personal favourite dishes are the seaweed salad and coconut noodle soup

Pros: taste

Cons: price, staff

Good Asian food

I went there many times, they have a lot of options for vegans !

The food is tasty and come out quickly .. I really like the dumplings, the udon, the pho and the salads.

sometimes it can be really difficult to have the waiter's attention as they aren't enought on the floor.

But overall, it's a good experience for a cheap price.

Pros: Good choices, Cheap

Cons: hard to get attention

Cool atmosphere but..

I loved the vibe of the place but between there being no wifi and the staff sort of being grouped together and not making it obvious that they were open, my experience was average. Asian food, even vegan places, tends to not seem very healthy or carefully crafted to me. From somebody who enjoys eating usually raw vegan for optimal health, Soy wasn't my favorite. Still a very fine place to eat.

Cons: No wifi!

Excellent Food with a Cool Atmosphere

This was my first time trying Vietnamese cuisine and another first for vegan food outside of the U.K. I was not disappointed! The staff were very friendly and the food was fresh and delicious. We were quickly seated and provided a lunch menu and offered a summer roll for starters. It came with a peanut/satay style dip and was a tasty match with the rice paper veggie roll.

We waited maybe...15 minutes tops before our lunch was served, which was impressive considering it was quite busy (though not crowded). My girlfriend had the noodle dish Banh Canh Hap, A mix of seitan, tofu and veggies in soy sauce, which I tried, and was very impressed. The seitan was especially succulent.
Personally I had the coconut and and lemongrass noodle soup called the My Quang. I can not say enough how amazingly well balanced it was! The mix of mint, lemongrass, coconut with the mushroom and crispy sesame seed chip things was crazy good and perfected with the peanut garnish. The dishes were huge! We were very satisfied by the portion size to price ratio.

We went and paid another visit before the end of the trip for my girlfriends 30th birthday. We essentially had the same again (boring choice on our behalf but we couldn't resist a second helping). It was hot evening, so we wanted to sit outside but alas there wasn't any free seats however probably a good sign of popular demand. It was still cool enough inside (literally and figuratively) for us, so no real drama.

The only two very small issue we had was having to ask three different waiters for our bill in the end. Though again, understandably they were fairly busy.
Another was with the Mojito cocktails we had. They were so strong we could have used them to treat wounds. However, after a couple of them, we for some reason didn't seem to care as much, so never mind we were happy. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

Pros: Extremely tasty fresh food , Big portions, Outdoor seating and very cool atmosphere

Cons: The cocktails are very strong. Easy tiger!, Had to ask three different waiters for bill, Not enough outside seating

fresh all-vegan food

Even though it's marked as vegetarian everything on the menu was vegan. They are really focused offering fresh and healthy food - salads are fresh from the market and organic, water is filtered with leogant filters to remove any remainig pollution by anything.

Pros: fresh food

Cons: no WiFi

I didn't stay

The menu looked interesting and the place was busy which is a good sign, however, as a traveller with no cellular data I really needed to get on wifi to look up a few things, and because they didn't have wifi I didn't stay. Maybe the next time I'm in Berlin!

Cons: no wifi

Fast, fresh & authentic

We went to Vietnam a few years ago and this was the most authentic Vietnamese food we have eaten since. We ordered 2 soups, summer spring rolls, noodle soup and a rice clay pot. They were all really tasty, highly recommend the coconut & lemongrass soup starter. The food came quickly and it was piping hot. The restaurant itself was perfect for a catch up with a group of friends, quite noisy though so not ideal if you are looking for an intimate dinner for two.

Pros: full of flavour, fast, friendly service

Cons: a little too much tofu (came in 5/6 dishes that we

Vegan Vietnamese food

We went on a Saturday evening and it was incredibly busy - which on one hand is really great, as we passed several carnivorous Vietnamese restaurants that were pretty much empty, while this vegan one was full - but it made service slow. The staff were friendly, just rushed off their feet.
We found some of the food a bit bland for our tastes - some optional chillis and spicy sauce on the side to add if wanted would have been very welcome.
The banh xeo was delicious - served as a big open pancake with tofu, seitan, fried onions and herby salad leaves. It was pretty big and filling although listed as a small dish.
The Summer rolls were OK, would've been nice to have a richer and spicier sauce.
We also tried a noodle salad (tasty but the glass noodles were an odd texture) and a coconut curry with rice, which was really nice.
Funky modern interior and some seating outdoors under a canopy and hanging lanterns.
About £20 each including beer.

Pros: Vegan food

Cons: Very busy - slow service

Tasty food, good prices

My boyfriend and I ate there on a Tuesday afternoon so we got to try the lunch specials. For 6,90€, you get an entree and a main. We chose the spring roll as an entree and it was average (the peanut sauce was so watery it almost didn't taste like peanuts). Fortunately, our meals were super tasty. The service was fast (there wasn't many people in the restaurant at that time), the portions were big and the decor was beautiful. The only reason why I didn't give it five stars is the attitude from our waitress. She wasn't rude at all, but a smile or a friendly attitude would have been appreciated.

Pros: Food, Decor, Fast service

Cons: Not super friendly staff

Quite good

Food was good and the place is really nice. Still...it took ages to get our food and when we did, it was already cold. You can find better places in Berlin, still...not bad!

OK but not great

My husband and I went there at lunchtime during the week. The restaurant was packed and it was extremely noisy, not only because of the people (and the poor noise insulation) but also because of the music on top! So I would not recommend going there if you want to have a quiet and relaxing dinner.

Having said that, it's a nice place and the menu offers a range of options.

There is a lunchtime special so for 6,50 euros you can get a main + a roll or a soup or a jasmin tea. Both my husband and I went for the lunchtime menu but were not impressed by our dish. It wasn't bad, but not particularly tasty either. The portions were very generous though, as it is often the case in places serving Asian food in my experience.

The staff was pleasant but not particularly warm and friendly and the service was very slow- poor waiters, they were running around, there was clearly not enough staff for such a busy lunchtime hour.

Overall, it wasn't a bad experience but I would not necessarily go back there, unless I was in the area and that was the only option.

favourite place

I was sad to see the cafe that used to reside in this spot go, but could not have been happier with what it was replaced by!! delicious, affordable, vegan food that is served quickly by lovely staff in a sleek, and tastefully decorated venue. It ticks all the boxes as far as taste, value for money and comfort are concerned. All my non - vegan friends happily come along to eat here and have even had a craving for a meal from soy despite their hesitance to vegan food. They also have an excellent lunch deal. If you haven't already been: GO GO GO!!!

Very Popular Restaurant with good atmosphere

I felt we were lucky to get into Soy as on a Monday night it was still busy.
I felt the food was really tasty, not too hot but flavourful.
The portions were a good size and beautifully presented.
And delicious desserts too.

Fair

The food is ok, it is not that tasty considering the price.

I am totally confused regarding its vegan status. When we visited it earlier in the year, I was lead to believe that it was 100% vegan, but now reading some reviews, it seems that they are in fact not???

There are other vegan Vietnamese options in Berlin, that I prefer. But its fine, if you are in the area.

Pros: Lunch specials are a cheaper option , mostly vegan?, nice atmosphere for meeting up with friends

Cons: Confused about its 'vegan' status, Staff not overly enthusiastic

Lovely restaurant close to Alexanderplatz

Me and my boyfriend went to eat at Soy because we were just around Alexanderplatz when our tummies decided to play their songs. It was a short walk but we could have also taken the U-Bahn.
The price of their food was expected, nothing too much and also not really the cheapest.
We got some strawberry lemonade, spring rolls and both of us some different styles of noodles. The spring rolls were really tasty but a bit on the oilier side. The noodles were awesome, but it was a shame that I ordered those funny glass noodles (never had them before), which are a bit chewy and I just didn't like it that much. The taste was amazing tho.

Pros: Good ambient, Tasty

Cons: The staff takes a while, Not the cheapest

Good food & nice atmosphere

Really nice food and well marked menu. We ordered the spring rolls, coconut soup, fried tofu, a fried noodle dish and the pho. All the food was good especially the coconut soup and fried noodle dish...unfortunately the pho was lacking flavour but it still had quite a good broth. Good drinks as well!

Pros: Tasty food and drinks, Nice atmosphere , Clearly marked menu

Cons: Some foods lacked flavour

simply 'wow'!

After having read NotBuyingIt!'s review I was not sure if we are talking about the same restaurant.
I have tried 2 dishes+starters in march, it seemed family run and thriving, so I assume the place did not change that much during the last three months.

I really like vietnames food and I have to say that the menue looks great, even greater knowing that everything is vegan.

My choice was Cha Ca, Seaweed wrapped round marinated Tofu and mushrooms,
with tomatoes, zucchini, dill & spring onions.
Refined with lemongrass and galangal and it was awesome. I do not remember the choice of my colleague, but hers was tasty as well...

Soy is definitely worth a visit, so give it a go!

Really tasty!

I went to soy because I love Vietnamese food, and I was not disappointed! The menu is all vegan appart for some drinks that are made with milk and honey, but you can ask for a vegan version.
The tofu dishes are really nice, and the portion was perfect. They do not use glutamate which is great!Everything was well-cooked and well-seasoned. I'll definitely go there again!
Check your bill before you go because they made some mistakes on mine

Pros: super tasty food, The place is cosy

Cons: a bit dark in the evening, the staff is not the most friendly
