Vegan restaurant at 台北市忠孝東路三段217巷1弄6號 since 2014. Cooks Italian and western food like pasta, risotto, burger, and waffles, and offers afternoon tea 2-5:30pm. No garlic or onion used. Took over the space of the now defunct Loving hut; different ownership. Reported closed October 2023.

The food is delicious. The “prawn” is made from a Japanese vegetable called konjac, which has a very similar texture.

I ordered on Uber Eats and got a burger and the black forest brownie. The burger was more like a schnitzel and inside the charcoal bun were fresh apple slices, something like a pizza sauce with oregano, something that tasted like cinnamon, and a lot of coconut oil (or something coconutty). All in all, a bizarre combination, but it did taste good. It also came with fries and a small salad - these were packaged together in the same container.

Great western influenced food - Edit
I came here on my last night in Taiwan and if I’m ever in the area again I will definitely come back. The hostess was incredibly patient with us and the food was delicious (and all vegan!). I have to say that is is western “inspired” and not actually western. If you expect authentic French or Italian food here you will be disappointed. But it you take it as a Taiwanese twist on western food you will enjoy it.

Other than the classic pasta, risotto and burgers, you can find dishes like vegan steak served on a skillet and vegan black squid ink pasta. On the iron skillet, you can find a meaty steak with mushroom, spaghetti potatoes and veggies. The slightly sweet gravy goes well with the ingredients. The squid ink pasta is delicious, but be prepared that your lips and teeth will become black after the meal!
Their desserts are also great. Tiramisu is made with layers of vegan cream and biscuits. It is as creamy and tasty as you would imagine. Other desserts like creme brulee and lemon cheesecake are also great.
Although it’s pricier than most other veg places in Taipei, the high quality food here earns the recommendation.

Just a note that my review is based on my visit in December 2018 but having just returned from Taipei I am catching up on my reviews and I didn't revisit this place. After trying other amazing places in Taipei at the time like URBN Culture, Ooh Cha Cha & PP 99 Cafe, I suggested we try this place as they did vegan waffles. The place itself is well decorated but the staff seemed uninterested, it felt like it was more style over content. We tried some vegan drumsticks which weren't great, the fake meat was too chewy and the bone part was like wood. I had a burger which was nothing special and the fries were bland and greasy. The most disappointing thing was the chocolate waffle which was hard and crisp, not fluffy as you would expect a waffle, plus it was covered in too much shaved chocolate. It was our only bad meal in Taipei but maybe they've improved since then.

Nice place with a wide menu. We tried the Thai prawn salad which I found didn’t have any Thai flavouring. The steak was lovely, not sure about the spaghetti pairing. Would have been much nicer with mashed potato. Also a thicker gravy as it was like a broth. Tenderloin was my highlight. Very thinly shaved cabbage underneath complimented it well. Ratatouille had a great flavour but wasn’t like any ratatouille I had ever had! Fruit drinks were a bit crazily priced at $160 for a mineral water.

First let me say this place is pricey compared to the usual places around Taipei. But the food is quality. Heaps of flavour and the portions are definitely generous.

I absolutely loved it and cannot wait to go back. The pasta Alfredo with vegan bacon was so tasty. I also tried their vegan tenderloin which was delicious. The location is really nice but can get full fast as it’s quite small. I recommend making a reservation. The food is a bit pricey but it’s worth it for this quality.

I had a very nice lunch! Service was kind and the food was very good. Quite good Italian inspired food! I had the vegan shrimps for a starter, which weren't to exciting but fine. The pasta was great though and so was the tiramisu and an interesting cream tea!

I wanted to try based on the photos and other reviews. We weren’t disappointed! The ratatouille was flavorful and my Soul Vegan salad was tasty, I was very impressed with their caesar dressing. My friend’s portion of pasta looked like it could’ve fed 2 very hungry people. A bit pricy but nice for a night out. However, I wasn’t impressed with the plastic straws that came with the drinks...

I ordered a balsamic vinegar salad and a spaghetti with mushroom. The dinner was good, like most decent vegan places.

Beverage wise, my hot cocoa soy milk was quite the comfort on a rainy night.

Inconsistency in Food Quality - Edit
I loved the Soul R Vegan Cafe when I first visited the Cafe. Nevertheless, the quality of food & beverage wasn't as good when I returned another time. Honestly, I was a little bit disappointed but I probably shouldn't make a conclusion simply based on few visits. Don't enjoy the mock meat prepared in the dish, would be good if they'd use more fresh ingredients. Service was just just alright.

This was my first vegan cafe I've ever tried but I would rather call it a restaurant. The staff were able to speak in English to me and were really nice. They have plenty things you can chose. I ordered vanila soy milk and brownie - both of them looked really fancy and tasted even better. Place wasn't hard to find and has a really nice design. It isn't cheap for a student like me but I am planning to come back and try more.

This was the most delicious pumpkin soup i’ve ever had. I liked the Tiramisu as well and the fact that there was a bottle of water on the table. What I did not like was that I was not being served. I had to stand up to order food, to bring back the dishes, to Ask to order again and to pay. There was a friendly boy but the girl does not look up or around and doesnt even greet you. That together that the place is very dark does not get it any more stars from me. I hope they can improve their service so I can recommend it to my colleagues who daily come to Taipei.

Soul R Vegan is a modern western style restaurant offering a great variety of hamburgers, sandwiches and (amazing) vegan desserts. The menu is in english, the staff was really friendly and they spoke english.
Read moreWe ordered a fish sandwich and the teriyaki pork burger and they were both quite tasty. For 100 NTD you have the opportunity of upgrading your meal getting fries or mashed potatos + a small salad.
What really made this place special to me were the desserts, specially the tiramisu, which tasted exactly as how I remember its vegan counterpart to taste. I would recommend visiting this place to any vegan in Taipei with a sweet tooth.

Soul R Vegan Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. I love everything I've tried here: alfredo pasta with bacon, Soul R spagetthi, pesto risotto, fries, vegan shrimps, chicken burger, bacon sandwich, tiramisu, creme brûlée, chocolate pie, lavender soymilk tea, rose soymilk tea, etc. Basically I've come here a lot over the years and I'll keep visiting! :)
