Outstanding service and delicious food - Edit
We arrived super early for our reservation since we had finished sightseeing for the day and we were hungry! There was no problem seating us when we arrived because there were some no-shows.
Read moreWait staff was INCREDIBLE and checked up on us often. All of our questions were answered, showing they were knowledgable about the menu, and the food was tasty!
We started with the Chorizo and Cod Fish Croquettes, which we would order again. For our mains, we had the Peanut Butter Curry and Ben Ben Noodles. Both were super flavorful, but I'd be interested in trying other things on their menu, as well. For dessert, we had to have the Vegan Snickers, which is a definite winner. It was an awesome ending to an awesome meal. Will definitely be back if we ever make it back to Amsterdam!
Pros: Friendly, knowledgeable staff, Delicious food, Good variety of menu items

“vegan, seasonal, mostly local, totally honest” 🌱 - Edit
We enjoyed our visit to Soil while touring through Amsterdam. The cafe had a great vibe and the food was tasty. I was a bit jealous of my husband’s Ben Ben noodles (I had the peanut butter curry). Flavours were solid, service was quick.

Nice enough - Edit
I had the croquettes, which are supposed to emulate fish but aren't much like fish or croquettes in my opinion, but are still nice enough. My tablemate had the peanut butter curry on my recommendation and says it was spot on. Likewise the cheesecake. The fella serving us seemed sort of awkwardly keen, but to be fair to the lad he was really nice, he got everything right, and he made welcome conversation with a lone diner at another table.

One of my favourite restaurants ever - Edit
I’ve been here numerous times and it remains one of my fave places to eat. Everything is just so flavorful. On top of that, the portions are HUGE. I’ve often left with a doggie bag.

Cosy spot with a good vibe ✨ - Edit
This place has a great vibe, but the ingredients didn't really tickle my fancy. The ribs were good as a starter. My partner had ramen and I had a beet salad with feta, but there were very little feta in the salad so basically only undercooked beets and leafy greens. Wasn't the best culinary experience. Good orange wine and friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. Would not personally come again, but a good vibe 😊

The food was really good! I had the miso salad and my friend the cheesy burger. Big portions, but a bit expensive for the ingredients used.

Cosy, tasty restaurant - Edit
This restaurant is worth a visit when in Amsterdam. I had a chorizo entrée, ramen main dish and apple pie dessert. The chorizo was flavourful. The ramen was a bit bland but fully and nice on a cold day. My friend had a curry main dish and it looked tastier. The apple pie was incredible. I was satisfied with my meal and felt full by the end of it. My meal was about €30. The decoration is modern and cosy.
Read moreThe only thing I didn’t like was that tap water was not available - the waitress insisted that my friend and I purchase a bottle of filtered water. I haven’t had this happen at a restaurant before.

Great Vegan Food - Edit
SOIL had fair pricing and large, filling portions. I had the noodles and my fiancé had the fried rice. We both really enjoyed the noodles. We also ordered ribs for the appetizer and those were fantastic! Service was quick and friendly.

Amazing hearty food - Edit
I had the peanut butter and tofu curry - it’s so creamy and indulgent, exactly my kind of food. It’s full of healthy veggies, celeriac and pumpkin, and served with crunchy slaw on top which adds texture.
Read moreMy husband is still taking about the Vietnamese-style hearty broth he had, with udon noodles, “ribs” and crumbled tofu. He would have exactly the same meal again tonight if I let him, but we’re only in Amsterdam’s couple of days.
Really lovely staff, friendly atmosphere, strongly recommend.
Pros: Huge portion sizes! So great value.
Cons: Huge portion sizes! No room for desert.

Great ribs - Edit
I thought the ribs were amazing! They’re made of seitan and jackfruit and taste Devine. I also ordered the ben Ben noodles and they were good but I did not like the meatballs that came with them for whatever reason. Wait staff is nice.

Okay - Edit
The bowls are a bit small. The Peanut Butter Curry is okay, we won’t order the Kimchi Fried Rice again. It was a bit bland.
Read moreUpdate more than two years later: don’t go for take out. Have your meal there. Good curry and salad. The noodles could have used a lot more greens and less salt.
And another update: even If you order drinks from the menu, they are not happy to serve you a glass of tapwater.

Sorry that was your impression about the tap Water Omega-3. We do however encourage our guests to order the WATER from MADE BLUE which sends its revenues to promote water projects worldwide in communities that are clear water unsafe.

Disappointing, given frozen bread twice - Edit
My partner and I came here for lunch after seeing on Instagram they were doing 50% off for Veganuary. Unfortunately once we got there we were told that offer is only if you book online for dinner, and for the first 6 groups to book.
Read moreWe couldn't find a menu online before we got there, and when we saw the prices (not cheap!) and realised it wasn't 50% off we decided to just get two starters to share instead. They didn't even have tap water, so we didn't get a drink.
We ordered the aubergine dip which was €9 and the vegan ribs which were €12.
The ribs were fine, however we were shocked that the 'rustic bread' that came with the aubergine dip was still frozen in the centre. I went to the bar to ask if they could heat up the bread roll, and they brought us a new one. However the new one was still cold in the centre!
The actual dip was fine although my partner did not like the taste. Even if the bread had been edible, the bread to dip ratio was way off, hardly any bread for the amount of dip.
At this point we gave up and went to pay. I explained the bread was still frozen to which they apologised and said that it has been really cold so the bread was freezing and they have been trying to defrost it over the stove. She did give me 10% off, although we couldn't even eat the dip so that was a waste of money.
So in the end we paid €18.90 for two starters (instead of €21) with one of the starters being inedible.
Disappointing end to our Amsterdam trip.
Cons: Expensive , Frozen bread

good food - Edit
I ordered the peanut curry bowl, and it tasted really good. Although i‘m more a fan of basmati rice, I still enjoyed this dish. However it is a bit expensive especially if you are a student, but it might also be due to the location it is in. Friendly staff and it was quiet, so I could read in peace😄 #Veganuary

Tasty and filling - Edit
Cozy, small, low key restaurant with an informal setting, and a pretty central location. The food is filling and tasty; definitely recommend their Ben Ben noodles and smoked tofu curry. For dinner you might want to book in advance. Even though they accept walk-ins, it might be full.

Perfect! - Edit
Everything at SOIL was just perfect. The restaurant is cute, service is good, and every dish has a ton of flavor. The Ben Ben Noodles were super creamy and delicious, definitely my favorite out of the bowls. The ribs appetizer had the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Salmon burger reminded me of vegan lox. Desserts were well made and satisfying, the crust of the cheesy cake had a nice bite to it.

Good vegan comfort food - Edit
Soil is a 100% vegan restaurant with vegan comfort food. It’s a nice place and the staff is friendly. There are enough options, but it’s not wild. I had the Kimchi Fried Rice and the Cheesy cake. I also tasted the peanut butter curry, which was good too! The kimchi fried rice was nice and surprising, but for me too little. It was a little bit sad that they didn’t do anything for my birthday, even though I did say so. And it was really cold in the restaurant. I sat with my jacket on, but due to the prices I can understand.
