Urbane and Delicious - Edit
I was passing through on my way back to Cincinnati, and this was one of the only veg places still open after 9 on a Monday, so I went for it almost by default.
Read moreI’m glad I did.
This is a nice place. The interior is very well decorated, with a lot of ambiance.
More importantly, the two dishes I tried were excellent. Just a really high food quality. I started with the cauliflower wings. They were deep fried, and when combined with vegan ranch or honey mustard, they took on more of the flavor of a hush puppy than a chicken wing. Still, they were really good.
For a main course I had the Pad Thai, and it’s easily the most flavorful, nuanced Pad Thai I’ve ever had. There was just so much depth to it. If you’re used to a sweeter Pad Thai, as I was, you may be disappointed, as this is a more savory take on the dish, but the quality of it made up for any lack of sweetness.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the portion sizes are fair, if not generous. It’s pricey by Midwestern standards but would be a bargain on the west coast.
My only frustration was that, perhaps because it was late, the bartender who was serving me was quite preoccupied with doing her closing duties and getting out of there. I’m fairly chill about service, but her head was somewhere else completely, and I struggled to get her attention when I actually needed something.
Overall just really refined, quality food that’s mostly vegan.
Pros: High quality, All entrees can be made vegan, Delicious

Great atmosphere! Love the decor of the place. Has plenty of delicious vegan options for appetizers, main fare and dessert. Perfect place for a pre-Fox dinner.

Amazing food! - Edit
I had a special that isn't on the everyday menu, it was a vegan risotto made with coconut milk and topped with tofu 'scallops' and it was SO good. Super creamy and delicious, and the atmosphere is really nice, great for a date night.

Great for Date Night - Edit
Love being able to go to this hip restaurant for date night with my husband. On our first trip, we got the Pad Thai and Shepherd’s Pie (one of the specials - adapted to make it vegan). Both were amazing. I still have dreams about the Pad Thai, so we both end up getting it each time we’ve been back.

Creative Concept, Decent Food - Edit
I love the idea of Small Batch, an all vegetarian whisky bar and restaurant. I have been a couple of times for dinner and once for brunch and always thought my food was pretty good and the decor is beautiful. It surprises me somewhat that they do not cater a little more to vegans, though. The menu changes frequently and nothing is marked vegan/vegan option available, so you have to ask every time. I am a little spoiled in that I like to be able to look at the menu and know ahead of time what my options. Every time I have gone though, there have been good vegan options. The majority of their dinner entrees and small plates can be made vegan, with usually a couple that are vegan as-is. Usually if it is not already vegan, they omit cheese in the vegan option, and they have no replacement (also a little frustrating or at least surprising at a vegetarian place). Entrees are an eclectic mix with things like pasta carbonara, celariac with farro and greens puree, pad thai, risotto, etc. While tofu shows up in a couple of places on the menu, they really don't include a lot of protein in their dishes. Brunch had less vegan options than dinner, but I had French Toast with fried potatoes, which was tasty.
Read moreSmall Batch does have an extensive whisky menu and their cocktails are delicious. This is a welcome addition to STL for a night out- although they do not take reservations and can get busy on weekends.
Pros: Vegetarian whisky bar- great concept!, Decent vegan options
Cons: Vegan options not marked on menu, No reservations

Date Night Only! - Edit
We went to Small Batch with our children, another couple and their children. I would definitely tell anyone with little ones to chose another restaurant. This restaurant does at least have vegan options, they were OK and I was grateful they had something for us to eat.
Read moreI might go back to Small Batch if it was a date-night, but overall I wasn't super impressed with this restaurant.

Creative, hip, and exciting! - Edit
I loved the drink selection, and although I enjoyed my waffles with caramelized bananas, bourbon-peach compote, and smoked almond butter, I did find the waffles to be pretty dry (gluten-free, maybe?) and the smoked almond butter to be VERY strong (almost overwhelming); however, the presentation was beautiful, the flavors mixed well, and the drink I had complimented it nicely. The chef OUTDID himself (or herself) when we ordered a side of potatoes and a masterpiece of potatoes with a tomato-based sauce came out....I could have eaten it for days. It was glorious! We were there on a Sunday afternoon and the place was completely empty, so we had it to ourselves.

Nice upscale veggie spot - Edit
We're thrilled that there is an upscale "night-out" vegetarian restaurant in Mid-Town. It's a great option before a show at the Fox or Powell Hall, or a great destination for a special dinner out. The all veggie menu makes us happy, although we're not thrilled with the attention given to vegans here - most menu items depend on cheese in some way and feel stripped down without it. So we'd encourage a little more focus on having a couple killer vegan items on the menu. But all in all we hope it's a great success!

Very chic! - Edit
This is a very sleek restaurant, beautiful interior, not a place you would expect to be all vegetarian. Our waitress said almost everything on the menu could be made vegan if it wasn't already. Enjoyable meals all around. Some menu items, or specials seemed a little over done, I couldn't keep track of all the ingredients. The sweet toothed carnivore loved the brownie dessert.

Very good vegan fare. Wines a tad pricey... - Edit
Three of us went there this summer. Vegetarian food was excellent. We shared some starters and each had a main course. Two of the group love their wine, so we ended up getting a couple of bottles, one for each course.
Read moreThe bill quickly added up and came to about $230. I added a generous tip as the service was good and very friendly.
The only downside to the evening was when we left. The hostess and our server were sitting at the end of the bar, talking to the bartender, and didn't bother to see us out. They glanced at us as we left, so they knew we were leaving. Not the stuff that repeat business is made of. But then American customers may be used to this.
Summary: Excellent vegan food. Good wines, a bit pricey.
Pros: Excellent vegan fare, Good wine selection, Good service duering the meal
Cons: Wines are pricey , No goodbyes at the door
