Shawarma so good! - Edit
The mushroom shawarma pita is amazeballs — add harissa if you like spicy. Ooh and the cardamon chocolate chip cookies is also yum. It’s soft and just the right sized after meal snack so that you don’t feel guilty.

Wonderful Food - Edit
I've eaten from Shouk at least a dozen times. Israeli vegan fast casual delight. One of the best vegan spots in D.C. My favorite is the Shouk Burger. Highly recommend.

Outstanding, Hands down - Edit
I had some of the best falafel that I've ever tasted here. My boyfriend and I both got falafel in a pita with hummus. I added cauliflower; he added mushroom shawarma. I'm not sure what the green sauce was called, but definitely try it. The harissa sauce was good, but we agreed that the falafel pita already had enough flavors going on and that the spiciness kind of masked the flavor. We shared polenta fries. Everything we got was outstanding. The portions are an excellent value for the price. Neither of us finished our pita in one sitting, and we came in ravenously hungry. You order by touchscreen which was user friendly and easy to navigate. That way, you don't have to deal with iffy service from a cashier, which I'm finding is more and more common. The ladies making the food were professional and efficient. There is lots of seating both inside and out. Overall, there's nothing negative I have to say. Perfect experience.

Amazing food - Edit
I had the mushroom shawarma and falafel pita pockets and they were both amazing. the shawarma was super rich and meaty whereas the falafel was light and refreshing and packed with seasoning and veggies. most things come in brown paper packaging but i wish instead of plastic they'd use metal for sauce/dressing. other than that the price was reasonable and food was high quality.

Delicious vegan take on Israeli food - Edit
I had the omelette and went back for the mushrooms shawarma as I wanted to taste more of their delicious recipes. Both were very tasteful and I really like the way they present their food. Staff was extremely nice and courteous. Can’t wait for Shouk to open in Miami (hopefully the owner reads the reviews on Happy Cow). Forgot to mention that the cashew labne (I thought I would never eat labne again in my life) was incredible.

Unforgettable vegan food - Edit
Had one of their delicious black bean burgers + sweet potato fries and amazing cashew labneh (far tastier than the dairy version). It was so delicious that I also grabbed a takeaway falafel, some lemon power balls and a chocolate chip cookie! I also had a long chat with some friendly omnivores who had stopped in for a healthy meal and were loving the food too. Really memorable!

Awesome pita and falafel - Edit
I have to be honest, while I expected this place to be good, I did not expect it to be as good as it was! The mushroom shawarma pita was outstanding! Great value, incredible taste, very well put together! I also got a side of falafel and they were also so so tasty! Heading back tomorrow to try the breakfast option!

Casual but delicious - Edit
Shouk delivers vegan food that’s delicious, quick, and budget-friendly. My go-to order is the falafel or mushroom shawarma over lentils and rice.

People working there are very friendly and go out of their way to help you.
During one of my lunch visits I lost my ring and they helped me find it, refusing to take any tips and just being genuinely kind.
The food and the place will make you happy for a day!

Not sure what all the 5 stars are about - Edit
It's basically like eating at Cava. Hummus and falafel dishes on rice & beans, salad greens, or in a pita. The mushroom shawarma was an interesting dish and had good flavor, but the black bean dish was unimpressive -- something I could've easily thrown together at home. Beans, rice, sweet potato, and crushed up sweet potato chips on top. Hummus tasted sub par and was a very small serving size. Won't be coming back.

One of our favorite restaurants in DC - Edit
We don't live in DC or that area. But, once my husband and I found this restaurant, we ate there all of the remaining nights we were in the area. We ate there three times.
Read moreI am allergic to yeast and often vegetarian restaurants will use a lot of products with yeast in them. When I asked about the items I chose to eat, I was assured that none were made with yeast. We were a little curious about trying Israeli vegan food. We are SO GLAD we did. We LOVED EVERYTHING we got. For all of our dishes, we chose the option of having them served over rice and black lentils.
My husband got the Shouk burger. I got the Cauliflower bowl that night. Then the following nights we got the Breakfast bowl and the Eggplant burger bowl. Every single thing was bursting with flavor. Also, it really tasted fresh, which really appeals to me.

Not only did I enjoy the food but I really appreciated the great customer service and environment. It was very trendy and gave off positive vibes. I probably won’t come here often bc it’s not my favorite style of food but definitely something worth trying if you like to step out of your comfort zone!
