Haven of Peace in a Noisy City

The ambiance of Jatra Biroti is that of a nature-loving refuge in a city that has lost its soul. The walls are adorned with murals depicting the flora and fauna of Bengal using traditional artistic motifs. The house cats run free and unlike in the rest of the city they are worshipped here.

It has a small music room for shows by local musicians. I have gone for the music but then retired in the lounge next door to have their simple but tasty vegetarian fare.

It’s going to move as the building it’s in is going to be demolished for a multi story monstrosity. A pity. It’s a great place.

Delicious Bangladeshi food!!

One of few places in Dhaka where the word “vegan” is known. Only one vegan option on the menu but more can be customized. Very nice traditional all vegetarian Bangladeshi food on a rooftop. Especially recommend their fuchka!

Fresh, flavorful and nutricious

Very good food, very good portion size. Well priced. Is just above a cute shop with local products from local entrepreneurs.

I had the ‘brown rice’ which was the only vegan option, and it was delicious. Also ordered a coconut drink which probably was fresh coconut water with some blended young coconut flesh. Perfect. Would definitely come back. Ambiance was nice, very simple and not fancy.

Pros: Fresh, Flavour, Price

Cons: Only 1 vegan option

Artsy and vegetarian

Food here is simple but delicious. The decorations are beautiful and it makes for a good place to stay for longer. Downstairs there is also a shop with lots of items. Juice is overpriced and average though.

Felt discriminated

I have been eating here for past many years for two reasons. 1. Food is tasty 2. This is only vegetarian place in Dhaka. However this time after 5 years felt discriminated as I was asked to pay before food is served and was told this is as per policy while at the same time another group sitting across me was charged after dinner.

Took with owner / manager who assured that policy is same for everyone and no relaxation would be made on payments before food is served 🤦‍♂️

Seems that this is the policy for everyone!

Quite possible 1. It happened to me after 5 years 2. At the same time I saw this was relaxed to other people sitting there

A night of joy

Being a vegetarian in Dhaka can be tough. I was on fruits for 3 days before I found this place out.(should have looked on the internet better). I visited them on a rainy evening and the place was jam packed with young adults. I found the counter to order at and found a table to sit at. The food was full of flavour. I ordered jackfruit Curry and mint lemonade. I would have preferred the lemonade to be a bit more chilled. The food was very good.
Overall an excellent experience

Pros: Lots of vegetarian options, The ambiance is excellent

Cons: Expensive , Lots of stairs to climb

Beautiful space, local food

The cafe is two storeys at the top of a store that sells eco-friendly, locally made goods (you have the follow the signs around the store to get to it). The food is local (lots of green chillies) and the staff understand how to veganize dishes. They seem to get quite a few vegan customers and they speak English well. They have two desserts labelled as vegan. The place is gorgeous and they have a cute cat. Pricey for average local food, but the concept and the setting are lovely and it’s comforting to know the food is vegan (it’s also one of the few instances I can actually eat local food because they usually add chicken powder to everything). They take credit card and staff are really friendly. Seems laptop friendly (saw people working but didn’t see any electrical outlets).

Pros: Lots is vegetarian dishes that can be veganize, Local dishes, Comfortable seating

Cons: Pricey considering they’re local dishes, Lots of stairs to climb - poor accessibility

Best option in Dhaka

I haven't found anything better.
Mushroom wrap appears to be vegan, not sure about chutney.
Brown rice platter was fine. The mustard eggplant was good.
Rotti platter was fine.
No plastic straws with drinks is always nice.

Not sure about sweets.

Pros: Only option I could find in Dhaka

Cons: Some food too oily. Service needs to improve.

Vegetarian food

Beautifully decorated place with a rooftop.
I couldn’t communicate with staff as they spoke little English and I can’t speak Bengali. The restaurant is vegetarian. Not sure what was vegan and what wasn’t (menu in English but hard to confirm no yogurt for example) as I couldn’t ask staff, so went for the safe option of mushroom wrap. It was very tasty. Drinks aren’t good, I had a lemonade once and a coconut blend.

Pros: Vegetarian , Beautiful decor

Cons: Staff don’t speak english and aren’t attentive , Drinks aren’t good
