Very disappointed - Edit
After the rave reviews, we were really disappointed in this place.
Read moreThe atmosphere was very unfriendly, formal, and sterile. We were never welcomed to the restaurant, offered any menu suggestions, or asked how our food was.
We ordered the taro appetizer because I love taro and thought it would be hard to go wrong. From the description I expected it to be pieces of taro, coated and deep fried, which sounds delicious. But taro was mashed into very unappealing mushy texture, and was mostly greasy, lacking any flavor. It was hard to pick up a ball with chopsticks without it squishing apart. Neither of us could finish it.
For my main dish I ordered the vegan wings as it sounded quite unique. What I got was just 2 unremarkable wings on a plate - barely enough for a snack despite the high price and the listing under ":favorite dishes"
My companion ordered "bamboo shoots braised with shiitake mushroom" but it had a terrible bitter taste. My companion is familiar with cooking bamboo shoot and said it was a clear sign of not cooking it properly.
The only thing we liked was the tri-milk drink.
Overall, one of the worst meals we had in Vietnam. I'm not sure where the rave reviews are coming from.
Pros: Vegan, Nice tri-milk drink
Cons: Terrible food, Poor service, Small portion and high price

Spectacular - Edit
I have just moved into this neighborhood and was checking out vegetarian restaurants when I came upon Sen Vegan House, just walking by. I came for the first time tonight and the food was excellent. I had braised aubergine and grilled vegetables and both were great. Waitstaff very attentive. Definitely try this place out.

Such a fantastic choice of vegan food! The braised dishes are very good, and we also enjoyed the mushroom salad. Watch out for the chillies which are deadly.

The best in Ho Chi Minh - Edit
Actually I think this is the best food I have tasted, ever. We loved the braised dishes especially; shitake mushroom, tofu and aubergine. The prices were higher than anything else we've had here in Vietnam, but for us this was very worthwhile.

Vast menu and tasty hotpot! - Edit
Lots of dishes on the menu and all are vegan! We had the Thai hotpot. It was very tasty and not expensive.
Read moreOnly thing we didn’t like is that at 21:30 we were still eating and they just started to turn off some of the lights and put on “good night” music so we would get the hint and leave. We thought the place closes at 22:00 so we didn’t hurry. Could just say something instead of hinting😄
Pros: Vast menu, Tasty hotpot!
Cons: Started to “fold up” the place while we still ate

Incredibly noisy, Small portions - Edit
Food was very average for it's price. The portions were very small and the place was ridiculously noisy. Probably about 10 waiters and waitresses constantly sprinting and shouting to eachother. Kids working in the back shouting as well, terrible atmosphere. The dirty dishes just get put in a huge pile in the side of the restaurant , never seen anything like it.
Read morePros: Kind waiter who was patient and helped choose
Cons: Messy restaurant, Unspeakably loud, Food isn't worth the cost IMO
SENVEGANHOUSE
Dear Dillon,
Read moreWe are thankful that you gave us valued comment. For portion that you mentioned, it's the standard for vegan restaurants in HCMC if you have chance to compare.
For the noisy atmosphere, we have several questions from foreigners regarding this. First of all, we are so sorry for any inconvenient experience that you got. We just want to provide further information that you could understand more the context. In Vietnam, every month we have 2 vegan days (1st and 15th day of lunar month). During these 2 days, there are a lot of Vietnamese rushing to vegan restaurants for vegan food. That's why there is the popular supercrowded situation you witnessed.
But as a restaurant, we should not excuse and fully take the responsibility for any unpleasant experience by our customers. We will continuously improve our service to better serve our dear customers!
However, we want to correct one thing that we definitely don't use kid labour, waitors and waitresses are students. Please dont confuse our customers!
Once again, thank you for your input for our better self!
