Best vegan meal I had in 3 days in Helsinki

Sen Chay is a cosy little asian restaurant that has lots of vegan options. There are about 4 tables inside and 3 outside but food can also be taken away. If I come to Helsinki again, I would definitely visit this place again!

When sitting outside be careful and watch out for seagulls. I saw one guy who went back into the shop to get cuttlery and during these few seconds half his food was stolen by a bird! (He got a new plate afterwards.)

Pros: Excellent taste, Many options

Cons: Seagulls

Tasty

We had the spring rolls (serve of 3) and the nut curry. Big serve of rice to go with each. Nothing too exciting but tasty and affordable. Construction around it doesn't make it the nicest place to eat. We took our food to go (because they were closing at 8pm) and ate by the waterfront nearby.

Loved it!

Small restaurant that is constantly busy. The staff are very friendly and helpful. My husband had the spicy noodles and I had the veggie pho. We also took salad rolls and a udon veggie dish to go. Everything was delicious! Definitely recommend eating here.

Great little place

Really nice place. Currently - June 2019 - they are doing a lot of building work on the larger complex the restaurant is in, so it looks like the building is closed, but it isn't really, the place is still open. Worth visiting.

No place for someone with glutenintolerance

A small place hidden in a small alley behind the bank Aktia in Hakaniemi. Kind of self service atmosphere (you go after the menu, sit down while choosing and then back to the desk to order, same with cutleries, you go after them yourself)

Their messy menue have a few goldies for excaple spicy noodles or tofu rolls. The spice sauce on the table is also a must try if you like hot food.

But! Unfortunately they don't offer any gluten-free dishes at all, at first, then "maby" one dish is gluten-free. And the staff don't seem to be interested to make any changes or offer you something else.

So, if you have celiak disease I'm afraid this place not is for you.

The food is good. But there are some buts.

Cons: No gluten-free options

Its so good to chose any noodle or other dish you wanted. Food was pleasant, well presented, service good. The taste was quite bland.

Very good choice

Food was very tasty and not too chunky. Left with a fulfilled yet light feeling. A great variety of Vietnamese dishes for all tastes.

Pros: All vegan options (I think)

Dependable Vietnamese cuisine

On my two visits to Sen Chay, I've found the flavors and textures authentic and satisfying, even if not extraordinary. The menu is reasonably diverse, so there should be something to please most people.

Service It can be crowded at lunchtime, so it might be worth coming a little on the early or late side of the lunch rush.

Tried to give one star, wish I got to try the food

Waitress seemed to be high or something, totally disorganised and ended up walking out. We were the second group of people to do the same. Sad because it seems to have great reviews. Hopefully they get a waitress who knows what’s going on and maybe I’ll try again:(

Pros: Open on Sunday

Cons: Long wait for food , No communication from waitress , Run out of some items on menu and weren’t told

Great servings and lots of flavour

The abundant variety of dishes at this restaurant make it difficult to choose! They have a selection of raw/fresh meals as well as all the classics Vietnamese food has to offer. Very homely style restaurant, tasty food and at a good price.

Pros: Affordable, Variety, Taste

While visiting Helsinki recently we thoroughly enjoyed the meal we ate at Sen Chay. Everything was tasty, service was fast.

Arroz frito delicioso

Comida autentica, hecha en el momento y con sabores muy de Asia. Me encantó el arroz frito, muy bien preparado, las cantidades generosas. En general recomendable

Pros: El arroz frito es maravilloso

Yummy spot

I went for lunch today to Sen Chay. Its teeny (6 tables of varying size inside with some more outside) but the food was yummy and abundant. The servers were pleasant if perfunctory. I got salad rolls (goi cuan) and vegetarian pho. I used to eat vietnamese food alot before I turned vegan and this was freshly prepared and healthful while keeping all the right spicing etc. It was a bit pricey but large portions. The customers jept coming in and were a nice mix.

Pros: Tasty, Healthy, Easy to find

Cons: Very small (maybe have to wait for table), A little pricey

Tasty

I have had pretty good experiences both times I have been here. The lunch salad wasn't very good, e.g. nutritionless white iceberg lettuce. However the main courses were quite tasty! Definitely will go back!

Sub par food and sultry service

Oily and tasteless gloop that reminds me of msg-laden cheap Chinese takeaway food.

The silly Happy Cow rating system forces me to give at least two stars- that’s two more than this dismal place deserves.

Good good good

Every time I've eaten here, it's been very good. The flavors are strong- I always appreciate a good vegan noodle, and the pho is also quite good. If you need a hot meal you can spice up on a cold day, come here.

Pros: Good flavors, A multitude of options to choose from

Cons: It's small!

Vegan awesomeness

Sen Chay is an all-vegan restaurant that offers Vietnamese food. I need to visit more often! Price-quality ratio is good and the food is tasty. I did not like the soft tofu they used in one of the foods I tried, but that's just my preference to firm tofu over soft :-)

Pros: All-vegan, Tasty food, Price-quality ratio

If you like Vietnamese food.........

After the cool. even rude welcome we received upon entering the restaurant we were delighted with the food. It was delicious , plentiful and reasonably priced for this part of the world.
However we didn't much appreciate the rude waitress sweeping and washing the floor as we ate our meal.

Pros: Good food, Good quantity , Good price

Cons: Poor service, Long wait, Uncomfortable seating

Solid vegan restaurant

Easy going place with really good vegan food. It's not a high-end place but something you would stop in SE Asia. Rare vegan jewel in Helsinki with deep knowledge on how to prepare tofu and soy!

Hidden treasure

Tofu with paprika tasted a bit like beef, but in a good way for a vegan. :) Well seasoned and delicous portion. This is going to ne my new favourite place, now that I found it.

Delicious

A little out of the way restaurant but busy every time we visited. There kitchen is tiny, every dish appears to be cooked individually and fresh (great but might mean a little wait). Any wait is worth it though because everything we tried was absolutely delicious. I loved it so much we visited three times in only a week.

It would be nice to see some food labelling for allergies and to know that the tofu is gmo free, etc.

Another vegan must in Helsinki.

Pros: Delicious, Cooked fresh, Friendly staff

Cons: Not completely vegan, No real food labelling

Amazing summer rolls!

I love this place. The summer rolls they have on the menu (Salads/1) is absolutely amazing. The portion is large, five rolls, it always satisfies me (and I take the rest home with me).

I've tasted only one or two warm dishes, and they weren't really my thing... But summer rolls, ahh. They're fantastic.

Pros: Delicious summer rolls

Cons: Small place
