Heavenly Baked Goods - Edit
I waited in the rain on March 12, 2023 to check out this place and it did not disappoint. Everything was so wonderful I forgot to take a photo of my goodies. The croissant was flaky, the pistachio filled croissant muffin was bursting with flavor, the cinnamon swirl pastry was yummy and the almond croissant still had an amazing flavor even eating it the next day.
Read moreOne thing I noticed about pastries in Amsterdam compared to what I have in the USA is they are not comatose sweet and I am here for it. Just the right amount of sweet that makes you feel OK if you have more than one.
Can't wait to get back to Amsterdam so I can have multiple visits to Saint-Jean.

Best all vegan bakery I‘ve ever been to - Edit
I was at saint jean with my non-vegan friends and they were thrilled. For them it was also the best pastries they ate. It was so good that we forgot to take a photo. We had the cruffin filled with raspberries and almonds, the cookie and the cinnamon bun. We also had fresh orange juice. It was so yummy. 10/10

Do not miss this bakery - Edit
I love a good pastry, and Saint-Jean delivered. The brioche is so fluffy and tasty, the croissants flaky and fresh, and the cardamom bun filling. I loved every item I tried. Prices aren’t too much higher than non-vegan cafés - around € to €4 per pastry. The seating area is small but cosy and friendly. I highly recommend visiting. You won’t regret it.

When I am in the central Amsterdam and I fancy something sweet and a good coffee I only go to Saint-Jean.

Today I had a macha latte with soya milk and a hazelnut croissant. The light bitterness of the latte was perfect to balance out the sweetness of the croissant 🥐. Don't miss out on this amazing place!
Pros: All vegan , Very creative , All made fresh in house at the back
Cons: Little space to sit

For some reason Americans prefer this one. And i always see French lining up at the door of Margot's. This may tell you something on the type of food you'd expect to find.

So so great pastries - Edit
I missed croissants so much and am absolutely stunned by this small bakery and its goods. The pastries are crispy, light, fluffy and the cream inside blew me away. I had the pistachio cruffin and the almond croissant and I wish I could take kilos of them with me to my hometown.

We waited in line for 20 mins, outside!! - Edit
It was soooooo busy and popular. We got 2 x cho hazelnut babka (?), a pistachio cruffin and a cardamon bun. My fav was definitely the babka - it was so good. The others were nice as well. I think largely 5 stars because it was all vegan with some really unique items; the taste didnt blow my mind but it was still good.

I went there every day while I was in Amsterdam. Their pastries are delicious. The pistachio cruffin is probably one of the best pastry I have eaten in a while. Their coffee is great too, and the staff is lovely. A must try !

SAINT-JEAN is a must stop! - Edit
I wanted to buy the whole cafe. The only problem was that I discovered Saint-Jean too late! It was the day before I was leaving, and I couldn't make it there again before I left. If I'd known, I would have stopped by every day while I was in Amsterdam! What's not to love? Saint-Jean has a sleek, clean, posh vibe, yet it also feels warm and comfortable. There is limited seating inside and outside, but there seemed to be a quick turnaround time. Also, the cafe is in a cute residential section of Amsterdam. Last, but certainly not least, the employees were friendly, knowledgeable, and patient.
Read moreI ordered an Oat Milk Cappuccino, Classic Croissant, and a Pistachio Cruffin.
OAT MILK CAPPUCCINO - It was frothy and delicate, yet the espresso was smooth and packed a punch.
CLASSIC CROISSANT - It was just perfection. After I went vegan, I didn't think I would ever be able to enjoy a croissant again. I was wrong. I don't know how Saint-Jean does it, but they do! It's made intentionally with flaky, buttery, puffy, and crunchy layers of dough. You can tell the croissant is made with love and precision. I can't get over how good this was. I'm writing this a couple of months after my visit, and I distinctly remember every delectable bite.
PISTACHIO CRUFFIN - I saved my Pistachio Cruffin for later in the day when I needed a sweet pick-me-up. I think this was my first ever cruffin! I'm going to guess that it's a muffin and croissant combination! Whatever it is, it was scrumptious!
The outside was crunchy, sweet, and layered with flaky and baked-to-perfection dough. The pistachio cream in the center was a silky base mixed with crunchy bits of pistachio. You could taste the pistachio, which isn't always the case with pistachio treats. It was sweet, but not too sweet. The filling didn't necessarily look the best, but who cares, it was all about the taste, and it was Cruffin heaven! I loved how the sugar dusting on the outside gave the cruffin an extra texture and sweet enhancement.

Tasty food with a nice setting - Edit
The cruffins and the baked brioche were really tasty, if a little on the dry side (maybe they’d been made the day before). The setting was cool — you can see into the bakery kitchen through a big glass window overlooking the cafe, which was really interesting! My partner said the coffee was the best he’d had in Amsterdam. I would definitely go again to try the other options and would recommend it, the flavours were inventive. The staff were friendly, apart from a male barista who seemed disinterested and was rude when we went to order some coffee.

Must go in Amsterdam - Edit
I live in Utrecht and Saint-Jean makes me wanna move to Amsterdam asap. Their pastries are a delight, not too sweet, delicious and flakey. Besides sweet viennoiserie they also offer some savory options. Definitely get the pumpkin jam/vanilla custard cruffin as well as the brioche!

Outstanding! - Edit
Saint Jean is one of my favorite bakeries in the whole world. They have exceptional pastries and baked goods, good drinks and a very nice setting even though the place is small and often full. The filled croissants and pains au chocolat are insane! I will go back every time I go to Amsterdam, without a doubt.

Incredible! - Edit
Had a Pistachio Blueberry Cruffin. It was a lot less sweet than I was expecting which was a plus! Crunchy and flaky on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside. I also had a decaf mocha which was really good too! Staff was helpful in pointing out interesting items and describing what they were. This is definitely a new favorite breakfast spot for me! Come early, we came close to when they opened in the morning and had no wait but close to finishing our meal, the restaurant quickly filled up!

Worth the queue - Edit
Coffee is delicious, pastries are amazing. They have a weird "plant-based" naming thing going instead of "vegan" but I think that's just to make sure your silly uncle gets fooled into having vegan milk. Everything is vegan.
