Excellent pho - Edit
So happy to have such a great fully vegan Vietnamese restaurant in Toronto. The pho is flavourful and not too salty.

Great food - Edit
Had the pho and a selection of other dishes and was blown away by the taste. The broth is so flavourful and really hit the spot. Service was a little slow sometimes with drinks arriving after the meal which was a little odd. The smoothies lacked sweetness but the Thai tea was great. I'd really recommend going here if you fancy some great, vegan Vietnamese food.

Deliciously simple and flavourful - Edit
I can’t talk about the whole menu because I only went once but I took the combo to get a little tasting menu and everything was good. I agree with a previous review that some things may have been reheated, but I honestly did not mind at all. Everything was very flavourful, portions were perfect (a lot of rice though, I could not finish it). The vegan kimchi was salty, spicy, excellent. It’s exactly what I would expect from an Asian mock meat oriented restaurant.

Blown away - Edit
My biggest regret when I went to Toronto was not spending enough time here so I could enjoy more vegan food. This was literally so amazing I can't even describe it. Just try it. Please.

great pho - Edit
I’m far from a Vietnamese cuisine connoisseur so I’m not equipped to comment on the overall quality of the ingredients or how authentic the flavours were. But their pho seemed extremely tasty to me, more so than I had anticipated. Despite what I had read in some other reviews I did find their tofu to have quite a decent texture.
Read moreMy wife who loves Asian cuisine praised the place highly and has tried a few of their dishes already. It has become somewhat of her mandatory stop when visiting Toronto.
The restaurant can get quite crowded and getting a seat might be complicated if you go at the busy hours. If you can, avoid going there. around noon and around 5PM.
Pros: big portions, flavourful
Cons: busy place

Cozy - Edit
I tried the lemongrass pad thai, as well as the sticky rice with mango for dessert. The pad thai was a bit spicy and it was very good. I have some remarks tho : firstly I wish the tofu/seitan was more textured, because it’s what I expected but otherwise the tofu in itself was very good. Secondly I think the dish was not made when I ordered it, it was pre made and then they re-heated it. I suspect this because the noodles were sticky and stuck in block, and it got cold quite fast. I don’t think it impacted the dish much but it has to be noted. The dessert was really good as well.
Read moreThe waiters and waitresses were very nice and I loved the fact that we could drink tea as much as we wanted, they were just refilling the glasses on demand. I love a good meal with hot tea.
Pros: Free hot tea on demand , Nice atmosphere
Cons: Perhaps dishes are re-heated

Lovely meal - Edit
We visited Saigon Lotus on our last night in Toronto. We were so impressed with the variety on their menu, they have the largest vegan menu I’ve ever seen!
Read moreI had the spicy lemongrass tofu, seitan and crispy roll. There was a good mix of different flavours in the meal and it wasn’t too spicy which is great for me! My husband had some sort of vegan egg noodles although I can’t remember exactly what it was, sorry! He loved it though! I also had a mango and coconut milk bubble tea which was very nice (and filling!)
The atmosphere was great. It was pretty much full on a Thursday night but our food came quickly and everyone who worked there was very attentive.
Pros: Biggest vegan menu I’ve ever seen, Big portions

Vegan Vietnamese food is the best - Edit
A bit hard to get to but it’s located in Kensington village which is as major P.I.T.A. The Banh mi is fantastic- the vegan meat one is far superior to the tofu seitan. Spring roll and fresh salad rolls are great. I had my dog with me so everything was to go. Will try pho next time

Low quality, high taste - Edit
Toronto has not one, but several China Towns. Although the name Asia Town would be more accurate, because it has shops and restaurants from all over Asia. The number of shops and signs is impressive and except for the giant American cars rolling trough the streets one can really imagine being in Asia!
Read moreThat being said, visitors have high expectations of the restaurants. They should be as authentic as the neighbourhood itself, eh (eh added for Canadian authenticity)? Saigon Lotus Vietnamese Vegan restaurant certainly looks the part. And the menu really differs from the many Chinese, Indian and Japanese restaurants around it. If you want a different taste, this is the place to go!
I went there at 5 pm to avoid the crowds, but the restaurant was already very busy. Waiters were actually running and the kitchen was at full steam! Nonetheless my "Vermicelli Bowl" (spicy lemongrass tofu, Seitan crispy roll, steamed vermicelli, lettuce, cucumber, sprout, carrot, onion and crushed peanut) was served very quickly. First impression: these are really cheap, low quality ingredients. However, the spices are fantastic and make up for any inferior base products. Also, the portion is generous and filling.
As a drink I ordered mango tea, which sounded interesting. Instead I got sugary lemonade with weird sweets on the bottom. This is not what I expected at all and I didn't finish it.
At the end I was bluntly asked to pay extra if the service and the food were okay. Yes it was, but why pay extra for that? Shouldn't good service and good food be the default? I don't mind paying a tip, but only in very rare cases of exceptional performance. An obviously cheap meal compensated compensated by a great choice in spices is not an exceptional performance.
Pros: unique taste, big portions, reasonable prices
Cons: bluntly asked for a tip, when ordering tea, got lemonade instead

Vegan heaven - Edit
I really liked that I could just flip through the menu and potentially order anything, as everything is vegan! Going from having limited options to being able to eat everything is nice. We each ordered a drink, had appetizers (fresh rolls and spring rolls), I ordered a pho and my partner ordered a noodle dish. It tasted so good and authentic, and filled us up!

My personal favourite vegan Asian spot - Edit
I'm a sucker for Asian food and feel spoiled by the numerous options in the area. Of them all, Saigon Lotus is my favourite. They have a huge menu, ample seating, and I've yet to be disappointed by anything I've ordered. Do yourself a favour and just go eat there.

Really disappointing - Edit
I was really looking forward to this Vietnamese food. The starters were really good but the 2 mains we had were extremely bland. Zero flavour at all and this totally ruined the meal. One was the Green curry that had no sauce at all and the other was bbq pad Thai which was 3 pieces of meat and so much dry flavourless noodles. To top this off the mango sticky rice was okay and very small. I try to be as positive and supportive as possible but this food was not good and I would not give it a second try.

Delicious & Zero Waste - Edit
I love Saigon Lotus, I just learnt that they partnered with Inwit, a startup piloting a zero-waste takeout ordering platform.
Read moreI signed up for Inwit a couple of months ago and decided it was time for Saigon Lotus. I placed an order at Lotus Saigon via www.inwit.ca for a Vegan Combo and mushroom rolls. Then I got an email saying the order was accepted and another one when the order was ready for pick up. I walked in the door at Saigon Lotus, and just inside the door, there was my order in these beautiful reusable containers. So I grabbed it, gave the owners a wave, and returned to my office with my delicious food. These beautiful containers are insulated, so hot food is kept hot, the cold food is kept cold. Zero spills.
You have 7 days to rinse out and return those dishes to any participating restaurant. They have a scannable tag on these containers, so they know who you are when you drop the dishes off.
Hopefully, more restaurants will get on board with it soon, but I am grateful that one of my favourite restaurants, Saigon Lotus is part of it.
