Peaceful oasis in Shanghai

I went to the restaurant a couple of weeks ago and I’m still amazed by my experiences at the restaurant and the people I met. Surely, it’s like the peaceful version of Chinese vegan’s heaven - By entering the restaurant through the little flower shop you enter a truly calm and peaceful place in the old town of Shanghai, you immediately calm down and feel peaceful. The menu is inspired by the Chinese cuisine and offers a great experience; of course tea plays a big role and they also offer traditional Chinese tea ceremonies, which you can attend and have a great chat about food and Chinese life. The menu includes a full menu of delicious dishes, from soups, smoothies, teas and cakes - all vegan.

Pros: great comfy place, Chinese inspired cuisine, flower shoü

love it!

SUPER cute modern restaurant - all vegan. The staff speaks English. There was a woman who came over to tell me about the ingredients in the food and make sure I didn’t have any allergies. She also asked how I found the restaurant and if I was vegetarian or vegan and why (out of what concern). They have Chinese vegan books - I can’t read Chinese but it looks like a book about the environment - and other vegan goodies set up on some shelves as well as flowers for sale downstairs. Get the cheesecake (mouse she called it but it’s vegan cheesecake made from cashews and coconut), it’s awesome.

Pros: cheesecake, fully vegan, knowledge of veganism, cute ambiance

Cons: little pricy, but worth it for the experience I th

I've been Shanghaied

This resturant is a great place in the vegan-cafe-heaven called Shanghai. So many places to choose from, and choosing 'If Vegan' was just right! A big menu, selecting dishes via an ipad (fun) and with help from a friendly all english-speaking staff.
If you eat mock meats and tofu, this is your place! I am not a tofu-fan, but have to admid that their chewey tofu with cumin and coriander was just right! And the Nori Wraps!!! Omg. Like an edible flower arrangement, just delicoius.
The people working at this resturant are fantastic - and all vegan! I spoke to one of the girls there, and it became a conversation about veganism, the enviornment and compassion for the animals.
Great place, I'll will be back!

Pros: Great decoration, Big menu , English speaking staff

Cons: A few organic items , A bit pricy

soy product based vegan

Amazing food slightly on the salty side. I don’t usually eat soy product much if you don’t mind the soy, you are in food heaven. Service is amazing here. The rice and calamari looking thing 👌🏽👌🏽 They do not take international credit card so make sure to bring cash, union pay or chinese mobile payment methods.

Great food and nice vibe

If Vegan offers Chinese and western dishes, as well as cakes, cookies, and bread. It's not super oily like a typical Chinese restaurant, and the food was delicious. The staff was also very friendly. It's bright and cozy, perfect for meeting up with friends.

Note that from 2 - 4pm there's only afternoon tea provided, no standard meals.

My favourite

I can't think of another Chinese restaurant better than this in Shanghai. All dishes I have tried until today are delicious, never overcooked or undercooked, served fast, with great flavour and without much oil.
This is what Shanghai was missing for so long, pure good Chinese food, without animal products but still Chinese, at affordable prices.
The place is cozy - the flower smell as you enter makes you feel like going to the Garden of Eden. Cozy and simple decor, clean, professional, and very very very friendly staff. I even love the concept of having a bathroom to wash yourself before you get into the restaurant seating area.
Every time I go I use that chance to get soy yoghurts here for next day's breakfast, not too sweet.
We usually spend 150-200yuan for 2 people, and end up full.

Pros: delicious, cozy, convenient location

Cons: tiny dessert portions

Lovely place and very tasty food! Extended menu and many posibilites of soups, salads, fake meat, fried and steamed dishes and desserts.
Friendly and English speaker staff. Nice atmosphere :)
Very good option when you are in Shanghai, but you need to walk there or take a taxi. There is not metro station near there.

Cons: the kitchen is closed between 2 and 5pm. They just

delicious options

I've been a few times, sometimes on my own, sometimes with friends, some of them are veg and others are not. It has always been good for me, and for them.

The dishes are fresh and delicious, and the staff are friendly though they don't speak much English, if any.

The iPad menu takes some getting used to.

The restaurant is on the third floor, and the restrooms are on the second floor.

Gorgeous food confusing menu

Loved the food at this place however the menus are iPads which only speak Chinese. We don't speak Chinese so we ended up opting for things we could recognise (a few have western descriptions but not all). Unfortunately we misunderstood what was a starter and what was a main course and everything arrived in a strange order. Our man course came first followed by the rice we intended to have with it. Then the starter came last. Not really sure what we did wrong.
Great food though.

Pros: Food

Cons: Didn't like the ordering system, Staff were happy to ignore us until we..., ...became assertive

☹️

For some reason this wouldn't allow me to give the restaurant one star. Anyway, this restaurant is pretty horrible, and I'll explain why. Location is pretty easy to get to, once inside it's pretty clean and has a lot of space - that's about all the good you get. We ordered a variety of food and all sampled each other's food. The quesadilla was interesting, it was the greasiest thing I have ever eaten in my life, the avocado sauce it came with was the only cold thing in the entire restaurant - the water they serve you is boiling temperature and the smoothies are warm ☹️. The fried potatoes or heavily season potatoes were just that, heavily seasoned and not great. The spaghetti was super interesting as it was super sweet and impossible to finish because of the taste. The vegetable curry was decent. So besides the food and water, the entire half hour we were there, we were being stared at by the staff, which was pretty weird. And although we were being stared at by the staff, our waters were never refilled, even when we asked.

Great find!

I had a vegan quesadilla and a mousse cake and both were delicious. Great for lunch or a light dinner. It's above the Daliah so look up when you're trying to find it!

Really great food

You'll find some really fantastic choices at If Vegan. I would say they have a lot of really good examples of delicious Chinese vegan cuisine alongside equally quality Western dishes. Definitely worth a try!

Pros: Great selection of Chinese, Asian and Western food, Really delicious food

Cons: Perhaps a little pricy, but definitely worth it

Excellent!

So glad to see they've opened in a much better venue than they had in the Pudong area.

The wait staff is just as friendly and wonderful as before. (Some English Spokan and menu in both English and Chinese.

The location is easy to find and convenient to public transportation.

Highly recommend a visit to anyone interested in great vegan food!

Pros: Some English and friendly staff , Good tasting food , Good location

Cons: Prices are moderate to a little expensive

I would like to clarify the situation in Shanghai between "I vegan" and "if Vegan'". I am now in Shanghai and the update is " if vegan" is now on 408 Shaanxi Road North (near Beijing Road West). 4th floor Tel.63776999. "I Vegan" is 87 Songlin Road,Pu dong.. Exit 4 Yuanshen Stadium line 6. will try and update opening hours soon. Both well worth visiting.
