Vegan Heaven for Traditional Portuguese Cuisine - Edit
We are a vegan couple who came to visit Porto. We were looking for a vegan restaurant for one of our birthdays. After seeing good reviews on Happy Cow we decided to try Remedio Santo. It wasn't in the center, but an easy and nice walk from there. We got a nice, quiet table outside. When we got the menu, we were a bit disappointed because we saw that there were plates with cheese and fish. Luckily the waiter informed us that everything was 100% vegan and then we were ecstatic! All the dishes sounded incredible, but when the waiter came up to us and showed us photos of the dishes, it was much much easier to decide. We chose the Couple Deal, with olives, hummus, bread, 2 kibes, 2 main dishes, and 2 deserts, for 40 euro, which we thought was an incredible deal. The two main dishes we took were the shimejis à brás (traditional Portuguese fish dish; vegan, of course!), and the seitan steaks. Both dishes were incredible tasty and so satisfying and filling. The desert wasn't too sweet and it was the perfect balance. We took the blueberry cheesecake and the kiwi dish with coconut cream. We also has 3 glasses of a Portuguese white wine---one of the best wines we've ever had and not very expensive (2.20 per glass). We highly recommend the restaurant for vegans and non-vegans alike, and we can't wait to come back to Porto to try more of their dishes! The owners have excellent taste and a keen sense for atmosphere. Thank you for an amazing birthday!

This restaurant accepts credit cards. This restaurant has many good reviews so I’m just adding to the chorus, but it is definitely worth it. The staff did not speak English while I was there, but it wasn’t a problem at all. The menu has English descriptions below the items and everything was well described.
Read moreI ate alone so was not able to get any of the 2 person meals, but did get the Quesadilla appetizer (good) and a gnochi meal (delicious) their house white was great with the gnochi and was accompanied by bread, hummus, and olives.
I had my arm twisted until I agreed to get the desert. I had the Tarte ‘Snickers’ and do not regret it though my waistline definitely will. Maybe the hilly walk back to the waterfront needs even more hills...
I will definitely be back and will bring a friend to try one of the 2 person meal options.

If you go to Porto, you should definitely have lunch/dinner in Remedio Santo. 100% vegan. Great choice on the menu. Very friendly people: the host had a little chat with us and showed pictures of all the dishes on a tablet (which made the choice even harder, everything looked so good!) Booked online and was welcomed by name by a very friendly gentleman. I opted for the seitan- which isn’t so easy to get at home- and it really hit the spot! Desert was a vegan panecotta but it was quickly devoured so no photos of that! Friendly staff, beautiful and atmospheric garden and food that doesn’t harm animals AND tastes wonderful- what’s not to love?

I totally recommend it! The staff is super nice and the food is delicious. 100% vegan! I had the best lemon cake ever. The bean stew was super tasty and the rice was cooked perfectly. The prices are fair. There is an open space outside and the restaurant is very cosy.
