Gone downhill and closed for now - Edit
Folks, we don’t have any great vegan restaurants in Pasadena anymore. There isn’t much except for My Vegan (my new go-to) and Naughty Vegan, but I want other kinds of food too.
Read moreI used to order from this place all the time. It’s changed ownership, and the quality first of the (takeout!!) service, and then of the food started going downhill. We have given them so many chances. Either they were late, or closed, or wouldn’t answer, or forgot items. But the food was still pretty good. Then they became rude, or they were closed. So sad - this was an institution.

Institution is right. Their seitan dinner has been part of our family’s holiday tradition for literally 20 years. Luckily we bought the cookbook and can make our own. S’pose times change.

Gone way downhill, skip this location - Edit
Just spent $65 for two sandwiches and some potato wedges- the food was nothing I couldn’t make at home and the service was awful. Used to love this place but will never go back.

Great food, large portions - Edit
I love RFD! Lots of great options and the portions are usually quite big. I love their vegan lasagna, "crab" cakes, cheeseburger egg rolls, and most of their desserts. The only downside is that they're a little pricey.

My partner and I both had the build your own bowl, and they were amazing! HUGE servings and fresh ingredients. And the pumpkin soup is some of the best I've ever had. The cornbread is also fantastic

Not great - Edit
We got there early for brunch/lunch before going to the Huntington. My partner wanted to try the cheeseburger egg rolls, and those may have been the best thing we had. Pretty pricey for 2 egg rolls cut in half though...
Read moreI tried the Weekender and it just wasn't that great. While I enjoyed the French toast, there was barely any tempeh bacon, and the tofu scramble was covered in this weird cheese sauce (I assumed they would use shreds and cook them in with the tofu).
My partner built her own bowl and she hardly felt like eating any of it. The Wasabi was kind of overpowering and the almond tuna wasn't what she was expecting. We probably should have asked, but still, it was pretty disappointing overall, especially with how many great vegan options there are in LA

So Delicious - Edit
We have been here many times but not in years until this weekend. The food was better than ever and service was great, friendly. Wide variety of food including burgers, Mexican, Asian, pizza, build a bowl but brunch and breakfast is amazing. The breakfast sandwich was tremendous, very filling. The mushroom pizza was excellent, the pesto is so fresh. The lasagna also very good. The potatoes bravas were super tasty and everyone was right to rave about the mozzarella sticks. Super gooey and melty. The cheeseburger egg rolls were a bit disappointing. The breakfast calzone was humongous but also just ok. It was better after adding hot sauce though, wish I had done that earlier. Will definitely be coming back

A gem! - Edit
For it being the first time I’ve been to this restaurant, my experience was extraordinary! We first ordered an Arnold Palmer and Mozzarella Sticks with marinara sauce! Eat them as soon as they reach your table! The cashew cheese was so creamy and delicious and dipping it into the hearty marinara sauce is a must! Off to an amazing start in my opinion. Next we move on to the main dishes, my bf had the Lasagna. In his words, “ It was soooo good! The portion is generously nice. The sauce was robust and savory! The ricotta cheese in the lasagna literally melted in your mouth and the pasta with the combination of spinach was mouthwatering! The garlic bread is so fragrant and lightly toasted.“ He definitely recommends it. I, on the other hand, had the Penne Alfredo! It was so yummy! The pasta came with spinach and a very rich creamy pesto sauce. 2 slices of garlic bread. And I asked to substitute the mushrooms for breaded seitan (like breaded chicken). Together with the garlic bread is a combo to die for! My boyfriend also recommends trying a bit of both of the lasagna and the penne alfredo on a slice of garlic bread. The flavors compliment each other so well! So far so good, right? But wait there’s more! Now we head over to dessert! We were recommended a coconut chocolate fudge cake by our amazing and fabulous waiter Tyler. Let me tell you that your taste buds will thank you! The different layers compliment each other so well!! I wish I took a picture of it but I just couldn’t wait to eat it. Overall this restaurant is a must for everyone. My bf who isn’t vegan loved everything! 10/10!!!

UPDATE: I changed my review from two stars to four because the service and food have been fantastic when I recently dined at Real Food Daily. My non-vegan family and I really enjoyed celebrating Thanksgiving here. The server was kind, professional and attentive. The Thanksgiving teaser plate was delicious. I’ll be back.
Read moreThe lasagna, club sandwich and build your own bowl have long been favorites. The fauxstess cupcake is also a wonderful dessert. Prices have gone up and service has gone down since the new management. We, and other customers, recently had to send back our nachos because they were so overcooked or stale you couldn't chew the chips. I hope they bring back the old RFD.

So good. - Edit
Located around the corner from a huge parking lot, which is a serious bonus. Add to that outdoor seating that’s in an alcove. So, you’re outside, but you’re not roasting in the sun and you’ve got the perfect lunch spot.
Read moreIt’s a little on the pricer side, upscale is what I think they call it. But the food is really good and they don’t skimp on portions.

The Real Food Salad is excellent with ample portions. Roasted Buffalo Cauliflower is spicy good. Nice atmosphere. Service lacking at times, for example, our tiny water glasses weren’t refilled the entire meal. You will leave full and satiated.

I love RFD - Edit
You should definitely try RFD. The food is great! My favorite is the Mediterranean salad & the breakfast pizza. Also do not sleep on the waffles or you are messing up. If you want to eat super healthy you can but if you want to eat a lot of cheesy stuff you can do that too which is great. It wasn’t too fancy smancy on the inside but was still a very nice atmosphere which made me feel at home lol
