Cool in Kathmandu - Edit
Found Places when we were looking for a different restaurant suggested by HappyCow but glad we did. Great atmosphere and groovy music. Had eggplant fries, pesto momos, vegan pumpkin sponge cake, and minty Arnold Palmer. Everything was delicious and well priced. Staff was attentive. Vegan options clearly marked.

Good for vegetarians - Edit
As others have written, this is a good restaurant for vegetarians. Seating is mainly on cushions on the floor but there are a couple of tables. Service is very attentive . . . maybe a little too attentive. Dishes vary in how good they are (we had a pizza, tofu and vegetable kebabs, and pumpkin momos). Prices for cocktails are a bit random. Smoking is allowed so beware if you're a non-smoker.

One of the best, with limited vegan options - Edit
Places is definitely worth at least one or two visits. Though there are relatively few vegan options on the menu, the ones I tried during my two visits were very tasty (particularly the creative and delicious momos and the chocolate cake). Service was very attentive and generally impressive.

better for vegetarians than vegans - Edit
Places is a great place with good atmosphere and very friendly and attentive staff.
Read moreAfter reading all the amazing reviews, I was disappointed by the vegan options: veg momos, spaghetti with tomato sauce, chips, soup, salad...these are dishes that we can get in many cheaper restaurants in Nepal. The tofu skewers, however, are also a vegan option and they were very tasty.
The menu says that they can veganize certain meals, but the most interesting meals, such as the pies, and even the veggie burger, couldn't be veganized.
They do have vegan chocolate cake, which comes hot, and is really delicious.
You need to pay an extra 100rps for soya milk in drinks, which I think is too expensive when a drink is already 160rps.
This is an amazing restaurant for vegetarians and has big potential to be amazing for vegans, too.
Pros: delicious food, super friendly staff, good atmosphere
Cons: expensive for nepal, needs more creative vegan options

all good - Edit
Very vegan, very nice. Cosy atmosphere. It's one big room apparently with smoking section but i was lucky that nobody smoked on my several visits. The staff are friendly, food is great, ranging from pumpkin momos (Himalayan dumplings) with chilli choc sauce to more regular pasta dishes, etc. The vegan choc cake is a delight. Prices are reasonable. There are a couple of tables and chairs, otherwise low tables and cushions on floor. They have movie nights, etc.

Great place to work - Edit
I loved my lunch at Places - the food was delicious with clearly labelled vegan options. The ambience is very relaxed and I spent a few hours here working on my computer. I look forward to returning to get some vegan pancakes for breakfast!

Chill Artsy Restaurant in Thamel - Edit
I always use HappyCow when traveling in order to find great vegan restaurants. I was so happy to discover Places during my stay in Kathmandu, and I ate here two night in a row (I ordered the same thing for my main course both times--vegan tofu skewers). I came alone and ended up staying for awhile. The environment is very relaxed (no shoes/sit on floor), and I was so happy to find a place with amazing food where I could chill, eat, drink tea, and read my book. I would highly recommend eating here if you are in the area. Wifi is also strong. Definitely a 5-star place.

Great food, great value - Edit
We ate here twice during our week in Kathmandu because just about everything about the place was amazing. The food was absolutely delicious, with large portions at good prices. The ambiance was relaxing (except for the loud group of tourists at the other end of the row of tables). And the staff was friendly, if maybe a little too soft spoken considering the volume of the music playing.
Read moreThe momos were okay, but not as special as the rest of the menu. I’d advise skipping those in favor of one of the other light dishes. But everything else was incredible.

Great food experience in Kathmandu - Edit
Lovely restaurant with seating on the floor. Great, chilled out atmosphere. Big menu, lots of options outside the usual Nepali fare. Food tasted fantastic although the dough of momos was too thick for my liking. The Chinese chili popcorn was amazing! Overall I would highly recommend this place.

Wonderful place - Edit
Great atmosphere! The staff is very kind and the place is like an oasis in middle of noisy and smoky city. The menu is very wide and we tried quite many things in different days. All of them were good but some very good. My favorites were spinach salad, walnut salad and spinach pie. And the chocolate souffle is absolutely out of this world!

What a great place! - Edit
Cozy, roomy, relaxing place in the heart of busy Thamel. On the menu vegan dishes are clearly marked. I had fantastic pesto momos, tasty and light. Then tofu skewers with BBQ sauce, veggies and rice (so good). I shared some crispy fries with a unique banana ketchup! So creative! I highly recommend this place. You also have free wifi and nice staff.,

Favourite Place in Thamel - Edit
Great open plan restaurant with cool art on the walls, floor seating and awesome staff. The vegan options are clearly marked in the menu and we have tried pretty much all of them! Food is delicious and fresh, and you can see into the very clean kitchen.
Read moreTofu mash breakfast great value at 355 rupee including tofu vegetables, hash brown potatoes and salad, a coconut milk latte (best coffee in Kathmandu!) and a glass of fresh squeezed OJ! So tasty.
They have live music on the weekend and all the art is for sale. Way better than OR2K and sadly often a lot quieter.

We went for dinner and ordered the paneer steak and the cauli steak. Both dishes come with potato and veg and were topped with delicious sauces. The apple pie for dessert was served in an apple!

Good atmosphere and good food - Edit
I ate here on several occasions during my stay in Kathmandu. The staff have a reasonable understanding of veganisim (some better then others) and the food was always tasty. The Big Plates are big.....so be very hungry or share. My only dissapoinment was the vegan breakfast pancakes...comes with coffee and a juice.....good value and the almond butter is amazing but you have to pay extra to make the coffee vegan which i feel kinda defeats the purpose of ordering a set vegan breakfast.

full vegetarian menu with vegan options clearly marked. I got onion rings and the king pao veggies. lord the veggies were delicious and the portion was huge! and the onion rings blew my socks off. I will be going back today. and probably everyday for my remaining stay in Kathmandu. the food. the environment. and the fact that they are supporting the idea of veganism and have full understanding of it, I will be going back. asap. right now actually. gotta run. :P
