Read moreNew location is right in the centre and has all the character of the old venue. The full menu is back up and running too (with plenty of vegan options). I had the pad Thai and it was delicious.
Also the best coffee I’ve had here and I’m a Melbourne coffee snob.

I’ve been to Kathmandu 4 times now and the first restaurant I go to is always Places!
The food is incredible (the tofu skewers are my favourite!) and the ambiance makes it my favourite restaurant in Kathmandu. I love the cozy, shoes off, sit on the floor nature of this place and never get bored of staring at the artwork on the walls! Plus the live music is great as well!
Can’t wait to return next year!

CHANGING LOCATION- REOPENING IN A FEW MONTHS - Edit
My favourite restaurant in Thamel! I spent a few months in Kathmandu and I went to Places more than anywhere else. They are changing location at the moment, but apparently will be open in a couple of months. They make fresh and very tasty food anyone will enjoy, whether vegetarian/vegan or not. You can also just go there for coffee or for drinks in the evening (they make great cocktails!). Staff are always welcoming and friendly too.

Prices are of course not comparable to your standard Nepal experience either, but the service, the quality of the food and the ambience in Places is worth every rupee.

I've been here two nights now and I plan on returning. A really nice atmosphere, the music is chill and cushioned floor seating is very comfortable. The food was great with a bunch of vegan options including momos with a chilli-chocolate sauce which are a must try. The cocktails are also quite good, with a happy hour from 3-9 offering 2 for the price of 1 on many drinks.

Yes, the pesto momos are as good as all the others say. They were different and green and delicious. Also tried the eggplant fries with vegan sauce, also very very delicious. The place is beautiful, nice lighting and the music is chill. Really recommendable.

Massive menu full of delicious vegan options. Everything I tried here was amazing, their vegan pizza is the best I’ve ever had. 10/10 breakfast with the tofu scramble and I wish I’d had time to try the soups. Chilli popcorn was amazing as well!! Great wifi and atmosphere you need a place to work or hangout. Love this place!

Hey, I just wanted to say if you want to eat unique and Yummy things go to this restaurant. (Highly recommend!) I’ve been there when I came at the first time to Nepal it’s so nice. Setting on the floor, and The prices is sooo cheap! I wish we had that restaurant in Israel, the people in this place really nice and welcoming you. Anyway this food is amazing I ate a thing that looks kind of Dim Sam with pesto and chopped watermelon it was very good and me & My Dad order after the meal Ice cream with hot chocolate cake it was really nice! Anyway then I came back there again and ordered the Cauliflower steak it was divine! Guys go there it’s such a different style from all this crazy area, much calmer.

Highly recommendable restaurant - Edit
We came here three times during our stay in Kathmandu. They offer a nice variation of dishes including many vegan options. Check out if there is live music.... there was a lovely Jazz band when we came here. Hot drinks are served with soy or coconut milk upon request. If you come here, make sure to bring some of the amazing products of the brand vegan-dairy Nepal home which is being sold here. I absolutely fell in love with their NoTella, the almond butter, pumpkin seed butter and pineapple honey are really lovely. They have the vision to do something good for your health and our planet so this is a brand that I really want to support.

I can't even count how many times I ordered their pasta there; it's simple but so good. Great atmosphere and a little bit more of an upscale vibe to it. Most tables are on the ground with pillows which I love. Labelled vegan options which is hard to find in Nepal so I loved it! They also host movie nights and other events occasionally.

They marked vegan, gluten free and nuts dishes in their menu very clearly. Many good options, fun atmosphere, and kind staff. They also have soy milk which most coffeehouses don’t have. Would definitely recommend and come again.

The staff here are super friendly. The place is cosy, with cushioned floor seating and cool artwork. The menu is an eclectic mix of nationalities but full of flavour. The vegan chocolate cake was insanely good. I’d go back for sure.
