Great Takoyaki! - Edit
We are vegan and allergic to gluten. Until now, there were no vegan takoyaki around Namba and Shinsaibashi stations. We had given up on trying the local cuisine, but we have found the one and only takoyaki.
Read moreIt was wonderful. We ordered the takoyaki plate and the 1500 yen kushikatsu, both of which are vegan and gluten-free. The takoyaki is made with soybeans instead of wheat flour, so it is very healthy and hearty. Drinks are only 200 yen and you can make your own. My friend was pleased with the wide variety of scotch and bourbon. Gluten free beer is also available for 200 yen. Highly recommended.
Pros: affordable, All Vegan Menu Also suitable for gluten-free, Cool Place

Best Takoyaki ever!! - Edit
We had dinner at Oko Takoyaki. The restaurant is tiny but very charming. The takoyaki was the best we’ve had on our trip! The chef was really nice and we had a great time. An absolute must try when visiting Osaka!

Couldn’t recommend this place more! Amazing gyoza and yakisoba! The vibes are immaculate honestly the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. The owner is so friendly and runs it solo. Drinks are 200 yen and it’s a make ur own drink at the bar. UNLIMITED ALCOHOL! Fabulous

Just ok - Edit
I was expecting more from this very well rated restaurant. I could not distinguish flavors in my takoyaki, as it was soaked in sauce. The place was rather dirty, the floor was sticky. The host was extremely kind and prices extremely cheap, but I would not recommend it.

Vegan takoyaki! - Edit
Quite a small place, but the food was great and cheap. The spicy takoyaki was delicious and came with a salad and miso soup.

This is not even close - Edit
I lived in Japan for years before I stopped consuming animal products, and I have eaten a lot of the regional cuisine(s) as a result. This place is so not even close to replicating it.
Read moreA proper takoyaki should be spherical and hold together until you bite into it - with the bite itself being like chewing through soft fried dough and finding a pleasantly chewy center. Sauces should add flavor. None of this happened here, with each order (soy sauce order and sesame sauce order) being bland as hell with soggy drenched lumps of dough.
I’m giving it two stars only due to it giving a passing option for gluten free needs, and even then you are legitimately better served going elsewhere. The staff were also nice. But come on, we all know vegan food can be good - this requires demanding better from the places selling poor representations.
Pros: Staff were nice
Cons: Poor imitation

Cheap and fun - Edit
Was surprised it was so quiet at 7 pm. The food is cheap, what is in the picture is like 1300 yen for food and 200 yen for a drink you can make yourself. I enjoyed the food, it was tasty and good portions. Fully vegan and gluten-free. The owner is kind as well and speaks English well. In the old spot where oko fun okonomiyaki used to be. When I am back in Osaka, I will be sure to visit again

This place has such a cool vibe, it's very small and cramped and often there's a wait for food but it is WORTH IT. This is the exact type of place I came travelling to visit

Tasty food experience - Edit
We got the food for to go as it was crowded and not a lot of seating available. Had to wait for like 20 minutes to get the food (only one person doing everything herself). By the time we got back to the hotel (10 minute walk) the food was a little soggy. But still tasty and nice to get the vegan version of a local favorite. Definitely interesting but not as special as I imagined.

Amazing takoyaki - Edit
Small place maybe has enough room for 10ish people. I went around 7 on a Friday night and there was no wait for me. I got the spicy takoyaki and the were amazing. Perfectly spicy with a great texture. Make this a destination to go to on your trip.

Good gluten free option in Osaka - Edit
Food was good, walked past it a few times before figuring out it was up stairs. Like a lot of vegan places in Japan it's a one person show, taking orders and cooking.
Read moreGreat selection of make your own drinks for a couple of hundred yen.
It's a small place so be ready to say hello to everyone in there & leave some words of wisdom on the wall.
Gluten free - very rare in Japan.

Great option to try local food as vegan/vegetarian - Edit
The food was delicious (and so cool to be able ro try local food being sure its vegan/vegetarian), also you could choose the vegetables you like. The place is very alternative and cool (could also be in Berlin or London), it was nice that there were offered chairs while waiting, Shiho the owner was extremely nice (but I would really recommend hiring people to help! Too much work for one person alone!!)

A cool place to go and be, very small and cozy but that’s the charm I feel. The takoyaki maybe is a little light on flavor but I got the aurora sauce option so that made up for it totally!

Cool - Edit
The atmosphere at itself was nice, service was friendly.
Read moreThe restaurant is small, so are the tables. I didn't feel very comfortable because two other guests were sitting right behind me and it was a bit restrictive.
The food was good but in my opinion a bit pricey for the size.
I didn't like the consistency, it was really soft. But i've never eaten Takoyaki before so maybe its just nothing for me. Give yourself a try!
Pros: Hipster, Cool
Cons: Small seating options, Bit pricey for the size

Very cool! - Edit
Small bar-style vegan restaurant with a lovely story about why it exists.
Read moreFun grunge/pop-punk atmosphere. They were playing Nirvana the whole time we were there and Green Day as we were leaving. The simple bare wood set-up is covered with messages from other customers.
Self-serve drinks from the fridge and a cute bar tray. Optional: you can squeeze a rubber chicken to announce you’ve got yourself a drink.
I loved the takoyaki. I’ve never had it before. If I were to have it again I probably wouldn’t have the vegan cheese on it; it looked better without it and was an upgrade I chose which wasn’t necessary.
Very reasonable prices. I’d like to go every night if I could!
The only place I’ve ever had mouthwash in the restroom. They have little paper cups for it. What a great idea!
Pros: Simple short menu - they do takoyaki very well, Happy grunge atmosphere , Love the self-serve bar
