worth it! - Edit
This place has delicious food (specially the dessert!), fair price (6 euros for the menu) and nice staff. The varanda was perfect for the sunny day :) I also recommend the upstairs store, they have a good variety of products and good prices. Bought violife cheese there!

big portions, low cost - Edit
Well, we finally tried a vegan Francesinha after seeing pictures of the non-vegan ones all over the city. We liked it very much. It was so huge we were unable to have dessert and that almost never happens when we're on vacation. Our waitress was very sweet. We sat outside in the pretty yard. The meal was really affordable. I'm really glad we had a chance to go here.

Great little place, wonderful staff - Edit
Great little Hare Krishna vegetarian/vegan cafe, really helpful and smiley staff.
Read moreWent here twice. Cosy place with a nice outdoor area in the back.
So cheap! For just £6 euros I got a cup of aniseed tea, soup, a little gluten free flatbread, a main course and a delicious well present dessert of mango mousse.
The staff could speak English well and were able to cater for my vegan / gluten free needs.
Thanks!
Pros: Friendly staff who speak English , Most food is vegan and gluten free, although check

Hare Krishna food with francesinhas - Edit
I've been here more than once. The food is inexpensive, usually healthy and simple but with great value. Food it's more of indian, goese, hare krishna, the portuguese traditional foods are some soups, francesinha and a few other.
Read moreI recommend this place, it's calm, the exterior is quite pleasant.
Francesinhas are served on friday and saturday night, the price of them is also more expensive, and they do fry the potatoes (a rare thing in this place) and you can ask for non alcoholic beer. the sauce is a bit different since I believe no alcohol is used in this place, if you are expecting more of the traditional francesinha (vegan version) this is not the place, but still a good try.
They now sell some good vegan cheeses, vegan dog food aswell, the store is inside the building.
Try their infusions, they are excelent.

Good, satisfying meal - Edit
Offers a set lunch of good, basic home-cooking for €6: tea, soup, poppadom, cooked red cabbage, seitan chunks/green bean stew, couscous and cake for dessert. Tasty and satisfying. Outdoor seating available. Pay upstairs in the shop after your meal.

Good and cheap - Edit
The place is a little bit spiritual, as others mentioned before. However it is properly located and the staff is really welcoming and nice.

Nice place for the occasional meal - Edit
This is a nice place located in the city centre, where for all the restaurants , cafés and tapas places, the vegetarian options are very limited ( and vegan even worse). That said the food is good but the menu could be more varied and with more food options. There is also a small store where you can buy some grocery and clothes.

Food OK - too esoteric for my taste - Edit
The food was OK but a bit too boring for my taste buds. I also found it a bit too esoteric with Hare Krishna music in the background.

Good spot for lunch - Edit
The were one of our two favourite spots in Porto. The food was very good (and fast ...:)). The atmosphere was friendly - for me a little to quiet and Buddhistic ... :) but it was also very relaxing.

O Oriente no Porto, Porto - Edit
I went for lunch today. As per the response to a previous reviewer, the info on happycow today is a little out of date in that they don't open for lunch until 12.30 (not 12 noon).
Read moreThe lady who runs it is absolutely lovely. I rocked and I was asked if I'd like tea or a fruit drink. I went for the fruit drink but when I said I was a vegan grade vegetarian she said there's milk produce in the fruit drink they had today (I think it was a lassi) and said I had the tea. I was then given a bowl of blended bean soup (delicious) followed by a main course of a pastry savoury of some sort served with pasta in a coconut milk based sauce and salad. Dessert was a small vegan jelly. Total cost for all this, 5 euros, I was stunned as this is a bargain and a half. The food was good too and I bought a couple of the pastry things as extra to take away for my train journey to Lisbon.
The location is excellent, walking distance a few mins up the hill from where all the bars are on the riberia. Its maybe a 5 min walk from Sao Bento station. As I said the lady who runs the place is very nice and she also speaks some English (my Portuguese is, lets says, sub optimal).
I was going to rate this place as a 4 but until I was told what the bill was, that is serious value for money
Pros: Bargain priced, Vegan grade vegoism, Lovely staff

Tricky to find - but worth it! - Edit
It is near the Clerigos Tower, but not that near. Look for Rua de Sao bento da Vitoria, and head downhill, nearly to the bottom, it is delightful, and Rua de Sao Miguel is on your right, and the restaurant is along here. It is unusual, as we arrived in the shop and were asked to pay for our meal before going downstairs to the restaurant. It was a set meal, and very delicious, balanced, and the portions are good too. To be recommended.
