Very good - Edit
Delicious, creatively thought, attentively prepared dishes. The vegan ricotta is delicate and tasty, a little masterpiece. My husband and I shared one appetizer, 3 mains, 1 dessert. Absolutely reasonable pricing. Those who say it’s expensive for what you get do not consider the quality of the ingredients and forget how much you pay for barely decent food in other restaurants in Vancouver. Nice ambience, comfortable seating, friendly staff, beautiful decor. I’ll go back. I am not giving 5 stars because I did not like coming back home smelling like fried food. If you go to a restaurant that strives to earn a Michelin star you shouldn’t have to take a shower to wash the arancini smell away from your hair.

Had the oyster mushroom karage with blue corn waffles, their take on chicken and waffles and it was excellent. Highly recommend.

Elegant experience! - Edit
My partner and I tried this place for one of our date nights. We ordered an appetizer, main meal and dessert. It was delicious and we would love to try other things on the menu someday. We do think it is a bit expensive for the portions sizes you receive.

Interested and exciting food - Edit
The food was all so good and so different to other vegan food I've had. Everything was carefully put together to create a great balance of flavors. Cocktails and desserts we're also delicious. I loved that it was sharing plates so we could try lots and each was bought out separately so you could appreciate each dish. Staff were also really attentive and friendly. Was a more expensive meal, but not overpriced, definitely worth the money.

I enjoyed the ambience here sitting on the patio. Definitely fine dining. The menu was an interesting variety but everything was super tasty. The arancini was delicious! Reasonable prices.

Pretty Good - Edit
I liked Nightshade, but was not my favorite restaurant overall. It was very pricey for what it was and liked about half the dishes we ordered. Drinks were great and I also loved the desserts. It was amazing to have vegan creme brûlée!! Just felt like I there were very limited menu items that actually intrigued us. Maybe it was just too fancy and elevated for my liking.

Blows my mind - Edit
This is the future of food. You actually want fine dining with developed flavors and care taken to details? It's here. Surprised there aren't more copies of this popping up in other cities, it's truly a food experience.

Lunch, really good but felt like something was just missing to make it great - Edit
Went for lunch with a friend. Menu was small which we feel is a good thing, allows the chef to do the things they offer very well, in our opinion. However, we both felt our mains were good but not great. He had the curry, mentioned it lacked enough spice and he’s not an overly big fan of a lot of spice. I had the mushroom carbonara, it was good, could have been served a bit warmer. I felt a bit of something on the side would have been nice, a piece of good bread or a small side of veggies or something. My friend said the curry would have been nice to have an accompaniment as well.
Read moreI started with the seaweed salad which was great, and he had the edamame, also very good. For dessert we had the brownie, not too sweet, good but again not great. Would like to go back for dinner and try the cheese plate and the crème brûlée for sure.
I also forgot my phone and the menu is only QR, the server had no alternative for me. My friend had his phone so we had to share.
I feel a physical menu is part of the experience. I like to look at the whole menu at once and read it.
Pros: All vegan, Small menu but with great choices , Nice decor
Cons: Only QR menu, no alternative , My pasta was just warm, Curry not enough spice

Upscale Ⓥ Japanese - Edit
At this moment Nightshade has been open two months. I’m a big fan of Japanese- inspired food and the menu here is so creative, light and satisfying. Located in the Yaletown action risers (I don’t know what this area is called but MeeT, Juice Truck and Do Chay are in the riser area too). Nightshade has a large dining room and smooth downtempo soundtrack, which I really appreciate while I’m eating - keeps me slow and appreciative of the flavors. They actually have three menus: lunch, interlude (2-5p) and dinner (starts at 5p). We went during the interlude seating and the menu is pretty small and we were like “should we go?”. But I’m no. Do not leave the interlude menu. It’s the smallest of their menus but each item is signature. We had the lock Blue Heron cheese plate, local Oddity kombucha, taro rolls, sprout salad and fire roll. Gentle and unique flavors everywhere. Super classy and friendly server. This isn’t an inexpensive place so bring a date and take your time to enjoy this culinary delight. #Veganuary

Fine dining done vegan - Edit
Really enjoyed the food here and nice atmosphere. This is a new restaurant so I'm sure they're still working on things, but the menu was delicious and very different to your usual burger bar vegan spots.
