Fave restaurant - Edit
Some of the best meals I’ve ever had have been from Nightshade. Make it a priority to eat here.

Love it, BUT… - Edit
These best, most creative fancy vegan food in YVR. I’m surprised I haven’t reviewed yet! Have been 3x. 1st time was 5 stars. 2nd time, heavily salted food, 4 star. 3rd time, overly salted food, noticed by all at the table (and I do cook with salt). I told the staff, who admitted a problem. A lot of money for over seasoned food. They should do better. Last time was in May 2023. Hope it’s better.

They permanently shut down a few months ago, did they not? (Google says yes, but their website is still up.)

Very good - Edit
Gyoza was so good, must try it! Ravioli was great too! Ravioli tasted a little bit under salted which was perfect for me.

EVERYTHING IS AMAZING - Edit
Everything we ate here was phenomenal! The house salad, pesto croquettes, sushi roll, risotto, pasta, and crème brûlée all exceeded expectations. We got quite full but couldn’t stop eating it was so delicious. Server was also very friendly and the atmosphere was quite nice.

Excellent elevated vegan dishes - Edit
The flavour profiles of everything at Nightshade were amazing. I really liked that the dishes are more tapas style so you can share and try many things. Also, appreciated that everything really was focused on plants and not meat substitutions.

Delicious - Edit
If you want a fine dining vegan experience come here! The location was great and the food was even better. Everything we had was delicious. I would be coming back to try their brunch menu next time I am in town. The crème brûlée dessert really topped off the meal.

Overpriced, underwhelming - Edit
Nice for a patio, like other placed in Vancouver's Yaletown. But the food is hit and miss. One dish will wow you, the next will have you going "meh" - and you'll leave hungry. We had to ask for a few things (utensils, wine cooler, etc.) that weren't brought to table; not the sort of basic mistakes that should be made at a restaurant with this price point.

Tapas style restaurant - Edit
Stylish, hip, & modern food to share. Best to come here with a larger group of people to try as many things on their menu as possible. Some of the dishes were a hit or miss for me personally, but I’m glad to have tried so many dishes to explore new flavours & textures. Such a creative menu, sure to pleasure the tastes of different people. Quite pricey (which is expected in the heart of Yaletown) & the dishes are not that big, but still great experience for special occasions. Would come back here again for their risotto, tempura sushi & truffle gyozas, & their desserts (to die for tbh). All the dishes are beautifully plated as well, with gorgeous ceramic stoneware. I appreciated the details that the chefs put into their work.

Creative, delicious, new - we had the truffle gyozaz, jackfruit schnitzel, braised black bean seitan, and morcilla. It was all amazing. The morcilla was a little less flavourable and a little too pricey in comparison.

Fine dining indeed - Edit
I dream of having a restaurant like Nightshade in my city. Fine dining, 100% vegan, nice service, lovely atmosphere. Three of us shared truffle gyoza with salad, veg bhaaji, pavé, karaage, yuzu crème brûlée, a cocktail and two glasses of wine for a little over $45 apiece. Each was beautifully presented, with a balance of flavours and textures. Some picky points: I found the pavé tasty, but over-browned and oily, and the crème brûlée runny, but the bright touch of yuzu, fruit garnish and perfectly caramelized sugar topping will live in my memory. The corner where we were seated was too dimly lit for dinner with friends, but quite acceptable for a busy Saturday night, when we hadn’t made a reservation. A lovely dining experience.

We had a wonderful experience at Nightshade a few weeks ago. Had the jerk mushroom wellington and my partner had the ravioli. The staff was also very friendly and we will definitely comeback.

Creative, colorful & complex flavors - Edit
The food is colorful and artistic in presentation, and the menu is clearly well thought out with creative, complex, and delicious flavors. Nightshade is more tapas style, so multiple plates are recommended. We got one small plate (Belgian Waffles with mushrooms) and two large plates (one was a special for the night and the other was their eggplant dish), and this was plenty of food for us.
Read moreNightshade is definitely on the fancier end of vegan culinary, but if you go for their food and avoid having a cocktail, you can keep the bill for this level of high-end cuisine, affordable.
