This place is fantastic!

Editing my comment as I went back and had the brunch tasting menu and it’s best! I have no words - just go and try it. Go for the tasting menu if you can!

Pricey!

I went here and made the mistake of not checking the menu first. I don’t eat mushrooms and most dishes contain mushrooms which I was told could not be made without, considering it’s supposed to be fresh food I found this a little strange. The only dish I could have was cold noodles which set me back $218. Very very expensive. However service was good and my friend seemed to enjoy her food.

The Best Vegan Meal Ever

I came here only 1 week after it reopened as Nectar, the space is gorgeous
I got the set lunch with the kelp noodle salad as the main option and holy guacamole it was all amazing.
The mushroom was the best thing ever, the kelp noodle was so flavourful and the coconut mango dessert was perfect.
This was the best meal I’ve ever had.
The service was spectacular and they explained what each meal was and why they choose that ingredient
Highly recommend

Hippie vegetarian

It gets busy so best to make a reservation.
It’s more on the pricey side but worth it in my opinion also considering it’s location .
Great juices , amazing coffee and good food .
I loved their jackfruit rendang. Wasn’t too impressed with the signature salad ... just lots , lots of greens and not enough of the toppings mentioned.

Pros: Nice interior, Great juices & coffee

Cons: Expensive

High Quality Food

The first dish - Pan Fried Gyoza (HKD80), has made us very amazing! In fact, I can't even taste what kind of ingredients in it. But it is crunchy, and it is just taste really delicious! My meat eater friend and I like... the hedgehog mushrooms in the two dishes "Pancit Bihon (HKD158)" and "Tikka Masala (HKD168)" the most! ! ! My friend said that no matter the texture or taste, it is too much like chicken, too good to be true!

If you have an important date, come here, I think Grassroots Pantry will never disappoint you~

Nice Delicate Dishes, High Price & Limited Options

This is my second visit to Grassroots Pantry. I will start by saying that on the whole, I enjoyed the experience, however compared to POP Vegan nearby, I would pick POP Vegan over this place for two main reasons:

1) Price point -- POP Vegan isn't cheap either, but Grassroots Pantry is definitely more expensive and serving smaller portions

2) Menu offerings -- this is more a personal preference, but my view is that GP has a smaller menu that is also less accessible to most, touting a sample of taste around the globe.

With all this said, we found the food at GP light, fresh, and with a good layering of profiles, overall quite delightful.

We had the fried "chicken" bites, lasagne, truffle pasta, and jackfruit curry. All taste great, but for 4 people (2 were kids) ordering the dishes above, and juice orders (no alcohol), the bill came to over $1,100.

Pros: Great taste profile, light and fresh

Cons: Price point, menu options

Innovative and incredibly tasty

I was blown away by the “fake” chicken, especially when I learned they don’t use meat substitutes like seitan etc - they stick to Whole Foods! The service is absolutely amazing and the attention to detail is fascinating! I’d eat here all the time if I lived in Hong Kong!

Pros: Amazing taste, Such great service and staff, Inspirational story

Overpriced

I’ve been here countless times and love their popcorn chicken dish, but I generally feel that their dishes are overpriced and a hit and miss. I was really unimpressed by quite a few dishes which were lacking flavor in my last visit. The menu changes so often and they lack great staples for people to want to return for.

Impressive

Really impressed with the quality of food, especially the Items in their Christmas menu. Food seemed to take forever to come out, even though it wasn't that busy. Yes it was expensive but I was happy to spend more for a special occasion.

Not impressed. Food was only okay. Much better restaurant options elsewhere in Honk Kong

Cons: Food is not exciting

Amazing food!

Good food and great vibe. Like everyone’s said it’s a bit more expensive than other vegan spots in an already quite expensive city but definitely worth it. Recommend the gyoza, popcorn chicken, tikka masala and the ice cream profiteroles (we had the salted caramel ones and I basically fell in love again).

Pros: Easy to find, Super tasty, Knowledgeable staff

Cons: Bit expensive

Good food but expensive

The food and staff were fab but it was very expensive. Worked out as £55 for 2 x waffles, coffee, juice and water. I felt £12 Was a bit much for water!
But the food is very tasty and there's quite a few vegan options

Pros: Quite a few options

Cons: Very expensive

=)

To echo the others, it's not cheap; but there's much more effort with the ingredients so it makes sense with what they're doing + charging.

Not sure how often they change the menu, but the popcorn chicken remains on there. This time it was quite oily and greasy, and I had no idea what the sauce was (more oil?). Though the other times I had it, I loved it. But it's deep-fried mushrooms, so how hard could it be...

Haven't been really impressed by the desserts at all. I don't think I will give it another chance.

Everything else is good there. The service, atmosphere, etc is fine. If you're a 2-top, it's possible to be seated quite close to another (since most of their tables are 4-tops). So I wouldn't recommend it for a couple trying to have a private conversation; although I enjoyed it because you can easily bond with others to check out what they're eating xD

Expensive but good

For the serving size you get, prices are quite high. But the food is delicious and I love the fact that the restaurant is zero waste :)

Excellent vegan food and environment

Definitely one of the top awesome food and dining experience for me in HK. Everything is yummy and the gnocchi is definitely something to die for if you are a fan of potato dish! Even my non veg dining partner was impressed by the quality of food!

I will surely come back to try the brunch menu again!

p/s: Vegan option is clearly labeled and well English spoken server is able to provide a great recommendation if you need some advice :)

Pros: Many vegan option , Yummy food , Nice dining environment

Cons: Pricey

Great potential...

Great location, very nice ambience. The service is decent, and I like their smoothies and juices. I’m not a big fan of the food menu however. Other folks have noted the steep prices, but I would be happy to pay up if the food quality (and, when it comes to basics like açai bowls and granola, quantity) justified it. I really like the fact that they don’t rely on processed fake meats like some of the other Western vegetarian restaurants in Hong Kong, but would like to see a broader array of hearty vegan mains.

Overpriced for what you get

Apart from the beautiful hostess, I don't see any reason to go here. The very expensive food came in tiny portions and tasted very bland. I tried the popcorn chicken that has got lots of great reviews but it was nothing to write home about.

The staff were friendly and spoke perfect English. Previous reviewers commended them for their explanation of the food but I found this monologue a bit annoying. The only thing I carry about (assuming that it is vegan) is that it is tasty and/or nutritious. The speech didn't include any information about the nutritional value of the food and I think it would be better to include any details about the food on the menu so one is aware of it before one orders and not after the food has been served.

Pros: Beautiful hostess, Friendly staff

Cons: Food nothing special, expensive

One of the high points of our visit

Amazing food in an amazing city.

Not the cheapest in world but you get what you pay for and for Central this is good value. Some of the most imaginative food I've ever eaten.

It should be on everyones bucket list and visit list.

As another reviewer said I too thought I was eating chicken at one point and had to double check. Proof that every flavour and every texture can be made vegan.

Pros: Amazing Food

Cons: A bit hard to find, we walked past twice, Expensive - but worth it as a treat

Great service

Amazing service from waiters - and even an explanation when the food was delivered on exactly what everything was which was great. I came here with 3 non vegans (omnivores) and they still really enjoyed the food and desserts! The atmosphere of the place is also great! I had the grilled tikki mushroom with brown rice biryani though had an initial panic when I was convinced the mushroom was chicken and had to get the waiter to confirm as it tasted so alike! But it was amazing after that was confirmed ☺️ also recommend the profiteroles!

Wow! What a place!

This was by far our favorite restaurant to dine in during our visit to Hong Kong. Not only was the food delish but it was presented so beautifully. The service was excellent and there were many healthy and organic options. The restaurant also has a nice ambiance and vibe to it. We ordered the popcorn chicken (which really tasted like chicken although it was made of a mushroom called Hedgehog mushroom). We also tried their Tikka Masala Biryani and Dragon Maki Roll. Everything was great! We would definitely go back if we lived there!

Pros: great presentation, great service, organic

Treat yo'self

They have loads of interesting veggie and vegan choices on the menu (which is easy to find online). Brunch and a smoothie came to about HK$200 so not the cheapest place but it's definitely worth it for a treat - I ordered the pancakes and a smoothie and everything was delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly, a waiter even gave me some vegan restaurant recommendations!

best nachos and vegan chicken

Was amazed by the realistic ness of the fake meats, would definitely recommend the nachos and popcorn chicken to anyone going there. Really good location, which might account for the extremely expensive prices ($68 for a not very nice drink!) but am going back at the first chance I get- honestly some of the best, most original and fresh vegan food I’ve ever had

Pros: incredible high quality food

Cons: too expensive
