Love it - Edit
The chef was super helpful. Ordered the happy hour portobello taco with vegan cheese. I forgot to ask if the vegan cheese was nut based (I have nut allergy). The chef came out and made me a new taco. Super accommodating and gracious!

veganize everything? no - Edit
sorry, but our visit was not so great, they say they can veganize everything, but the only thing that would be a complete meal where the 3 tacos. They were really good but beside them, everything else is with meat, they have no faux meat, so what do i get when I veganize chicken fajita? bell pepper with rice? We were a little bit disappointed, looked forward to this because of the reviews. The place is nice but has a long waiting time even with reservation.

really good veganaized tacos - Edit
The place was pretty good! It is easy to veganized items on the menu and the waitress was also very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. To add vegan cheese there is a $3 charge. The veggie burger can't be veganized due to dairy being inside the burger. But with that being said, I had the 3 taco meal which is a portobello tacos with pico, black beans, rice & vegan cheese. The portion was also very big and I was full! Def had a good lunch.

Great Mexican food - Edit
I have to echo the sentiments of some of the other users that I would give it 5 stars if I could. (For some reason you can't rate a restaurant 5 stars if it serves non-vegetarian food). This is the perfect place to go if you have a group with vegan and non vegans. There are lots of options for vegans on the menu and the give you the option to "veganize" any of the other dishes which gives you the option to have vegan cheese for $3 extra. I ordered a combo with the Mother's Burrito with peppers and onions as well as the spinach enchilada. It was so good! I also ordered some of the inferno sauce on the side. (As a side note, if you decided to get the inferno burrito, I recommend getting the sauce on the side instead of mixed in to control the heat unless you truly like pain!). My wife (non-vegan) got the fajita and complained that the beef was too tough and the meat wasn't seasoned well. I had zero complaints with mine! There was a long wait to be seated ( 35 minutes on a Wednesday at 7pm). Wait staff was pleasant and efficient. Also, be careful when ordering appetizers. The entrees are huge and you might not have enough room if you eat too much appetizers!

FIVE STARS - Edit
This place was absolutely AMAZING! Went here with non-vegans and they said it was the best ever. The mushroom tacos were great and many menu items can be "veganized" upon request. Vegan cheese available.

five stars - Edit
So happy cow won't let me rate 5 stars but I want everyone to know that it is a 5 star rating. My husband (vegetarian), daughter (vegetarian) and I (vegan) stop here for dinner last night and the way they can make almost every entree vegan is amazing and the meals we got (mother burrito and quest black bean burrito) was to die for! Thank you so much for offering vegan options! #fitveganmomphilly

Great Experience - Edit
Friendly and accommodating staff. Lots of delicious options. Fresh food. Great place. Worth going out of your way for. Came for lunch with a large family with little kids, no problems. Looks like it would be more adult oriented and difficult with kids at night, but lots of fun without them.

Seriously may be the best Mexican food I've ever eaten. They made exactly what we wanted. We are vegan and we had plenty of options. They were very accommodating. The margarita was to die for. :)

Good Mexican food, lots of vegan options - Edit
A nice casual bar/cantina with lots of vegan options. Vegan cheese is available for all items, and the vegan options are clearly marked on the menu. Spanish rice, guacamole, black beans, and refried pinto beans are all vegan. We had the portabella mushroom and spinach enchiladas with vegan cheese, and black bean, refried bean, and portabella tacos. The platters are pretty big and come with sides of beans and Spanish rice. They also have local craft beers on tap and the usual Mexican drinks like margaritas.

Best Veg Dinner in OC - Edit
This place is a vegan's heaven. Menu has tons of delicious choices. Offers vegan cheese!!!! Food is so fresh, flavorful and delicious. Seriously. In a land of seafood buffets, Mother's Cantina is hands down the best place for a vegetarian in OC.

Best vegan tacos in OC - Edit
The double decker prepared vegan was outstanding. A tortilla coated with black bean paste, a crunchy corn tortilla inside of that, and then beans or portobellos for filling. Totally delicious. I would've given 5 stars, but the wait staff is constantly overwhelmed with the volume of people. I definitely recommend ordering everything immediately, to avoid a huge wait.

Yummy Enchiladas! - Edit
I tripped upon this place during a recent trip to Ocean City. There was more than one vegetarian in our group and we were thrilled to have actual choices on the menu (spinach, portobello, or black bean fillings available for almost anything on the menu). It also does have several vegan options. In addition to the vegan cheese substitution option mentioned in the other reviews, the menu says all the sides are vegan except the queso, which means putting together a vegan meal is definitely doable.
Read moreThe happy hour is every day and was really good. We had decent-sized, delicious margaritas for $3.50 each. It was a bit hard to stop myself from ordering more than a few!
It's a shame another reviewer had trouble with a server; our server was very attentive and really friendly.
Overall, this was a delicious meal and a fun time! I will definitely return when I'm in town again!
Pros: Yummy Vegetarian Food, Fun Atmosphere, Great Happy Hour

Yummy! - Edit
As has been mentioned in prior reviews, you have to ask to veganize your meal. They use Daiya cheese. I had veggie enchiladas, which were sooo good! I used to eat enchiladas almost weekly before I was vegan, and the enchiladas here totally hit the spot, so to speak.

Great vegan food but you must ask! - Edit
Mother's was great - some of the best mexican food I have had on the eats coast - and very vegan friendly. It looks a little crazy when you walk in to the bar area but they have a nice and surprisingly uiet dining room off to the left. Pretty much everything they offer can be made vegan with sauteed veggies, spinach, portabellos, or bean fillings. The secret however is that you need to *ask* for vegan cheese, for some strange reason they don't list it on the menu! My waitress was very knowledgeable however and said I could veganize my meal for $3.

Great Vegan Spot..daiya anyone?! - Edit
We heard that this place had some great vegetarian options so we decided to check it out. The waitress was really nice and gave us the low down. Most of the main ingredients were all vegan but the guacamole is unfortunately not, so skip that. However, they have DAIYA CHEESE so this really is a great vegan spot! The food is awesome and the vegan options are plenty. The complementary salsa is also really yummy. I will never go hungry in Ocean City again!

Great Place for Vegetarians and Non - Edit
We just got back from Ocean City. My husband and I are both vegetarian, and there isn't much in the way of non-seafood in this area, so we thought we would check this place out. When we walked up, I was a little worried as it was not a nice upscale place, more like a sports bar. But everyone was so nice and the food was amazing. They answered all of our questions without being annoyed, and the waitress really went out of her way to make it a nice experience. We had several people come check on us. I can't say enough about this yummy restaurant and their incredible staff. Wish more places were like this!

Fantastic Veggie/Vegan Tex-Mex @ Mother's Cantina - Edit
Mother's Cantina is a really friendly restaurant and bar that serves a ton of veggie options. All of their beans, rice, and veggie sides are vegan (I asked). Also one of the owners is a vegetarian and she is the chef. She even came to our table to see if we liked everything. I was the only vegan at the table. Had the portabella fajitas and it was a ton of food with AMAZING flavor. The chef said she buys all her veggies local - which is also pretty awesome. I highly recommend Mother's Cantina. Spread the word!
