Mono :) - Edit
I've lived next to Mono for 10 years now so know it very well by now - it's basically Glasgow's most well-known and longest-running vegan place.
Read moreIn short:
Very good Bahn Mi Roll and Hummus/salad wrap.
To-fish is excellent! Mac & cheese and the pizzas are above average but not amazing (compared to Zizzi's vegan rustica for example).
Chips are very good as are the artichoke fritters, a must-have! Cakes are also good, but most importantly they have Oatly :)
Various specials and soups pop up on the menu from day to day so keep an eye out for those.
The place is long-running and popular with the vegan community and various Meetup groups so can go from empty to full quite quickly even though they have a lot of tables for all sizes of groups, so be aware of this especially on weekends.
The staff are chilled and friendly (if you are ever waiting for service, just wander up to the bar and order there).
The wifi is good and it's a great place to chill and get some work done on mornings or quieter days.

Mono is a fave for any Glaswegian vegan! Their choice is great and there are some really indulgent options which is a rarity for most vegans in restaurants! I would say my favourite dish has to be the kale pizza but I've never had a bad meal here! I also love the bean burrito and my sister lives for their mac and cheese!

Nice food, nice service - Edit
I was only in Glasgow one night and this is where I decided to eat based on recommendations. I wasn't disappointed.
Read moreI wanted something deep-fried because I was in Scotland (I'm from Australia) so I ordered the sausage supper which contained deep-fried sausages, chips and a pickled onion. I ordered it with extra mushy peas because I felt I needed something somewhat green on my plate haha. It was delicious, greasy goodness! The sausages were particularly good because they had a very authentic sausage flavour.
The staff were very nice and didn't make me feel awkward about dining alone (I was traveling alone and with such a short trip I knew no one).
The atmosphere was very nice and sort of exactly what I imagined Glasgow to be like. I enjoyed myself :)
Pros: Delicious, Friendly service, Nice atmosphere
Cons: Down a quiet alley; scary to walk there alone

Great music - food ok - Edit
We were so excited to try this place, but walked away underwhelmed. We ordered the fish and chips and it was super greasy as well as the burger...same :(. The soup was amazing and we tried a salad with tofu that came with two dollar sized slices and a bunch of greens. For as much as this place gets amazing reviews...we were not thrilled. Positives are great service, fun atomosphere and the DJ was amazing and played great music while we were there. Probably a skip next time, but if you like great music...nice stop

Fun dive/junk food - Edit
We ate here our last night in Scotland and it was such a relief to be at a vegan restaurant that we happily overlooked the fact there were hardly any vegetables on the menu. We had: caesar salad, tofish and chips, seitan burger, falafel wrap, side of sausage, and side of jerk jackfruit. Did not like the sausage or jackfruit at all, but everything else was pretty good, in fact we had to order more of the tofish and another burger. However, the food was quite greasy, especially the tofish which was not as crispy as it should have been and extra greasy. Maybe they need to adjust the fryer temps. The best item was the seitan burger.
Read moreI made a reservation because I wasn't sure what to expect. It was probably a good idea because the place got busy. Mono is a dive--no need to dress up at all. The record store attached to the restaurant is fun but it closes early.
If I lived in Glasgow, I might visit about once year because there were hardly any healthy options. If Mono lived in my city, it would have to up its game since there are vegan restaurants here that do fried food that comes out crispy without being greasy.

best Mac n cheese in Glasgow - Edit
And the rest of the food is great too, lovely space, friendly and relaxed atmosphere but make sure you have plenty of time to enjoy it, Mono time is chill out time. Can get busy, check out for special events and good outside space for a sunny day. My favourite Glasgow spot 👍🏽

Mono Railroaded Me! - Edit
Looking for Rose and Grant's which was closed, I checked HappyCow to find there was a vegan cafe round the corner. Mono actually appears to be a vegan pub, with live music! I couldn't stay for that, but I ordered off piste, the Tostadas for the main course as a Special were delicious. I had problems parking as I hadn't allowed for the alternate venue. They were very patient with me which I also appreciated. I finished with the vegan (everything's vegan) chocolate, strawberry and vanilla banana split, topped with a cherry! I thought I'd seen the last of one of those! Great place, highly recommended 😜

Great pizza terrible service - Edit
I have been twice and both times the service was slow and bordering on rude, I gave it a chance because the first time it was busy but the second time it was reasonably quiet so no excuse. It is such a shame because the pizza there is great but luckily there are plenty of other options in Glasgow, won't be back unless I get dragged there!

Glasgow Vegan Pizza Crunch Venue - Edit
Wow! Traditional Glasgow fayre: battered sausage, pizza crunch (it's a quater of a pizza deep fried in batter- and it is great!) good value. lots of tables indoors and outdoors. We went for lunch and the sun was shining, lovely light venue.

Great place - Edit
A good busy place with a great mix of people. We went on a Saturday night in May before the band played. We missed out on the burrito. Pizza was ok and tofu bun was a bit dull. Wine was good. Lovely sunny day people sat outside in the court yard. Easy to find with app.

Hail Seitan! - Edit
A must go if you are visiting Glasgow. We've been here a few times and on each occasion the food has been excellent. On our first visit we ordered the seitan burger and oreo cheesecake, which were absolutely delicious. Definitely one of the best burgers and cheesecakes we have ever eaten. Sadly the oreo cheesecake is no longer on the menu, which is a shame. Most recently we visited again and decided to order the to-fish 'n' chips and battered vegan sausage and chips (£8.50) with some homemade ginger beer. Both dishes were really tasty and full of flavour with good portion sizes given. The ginger beer was refreshing too. Can't wait to go back again.

I loved this place! Although we had to wait for a table at lunch time, which was not a problem for us.
Read moreWe both ordered the Seitan burger which looked incredible and tasted so good. The meal itself was quite large as it came with chips and a small coleslaw. We were happy we didn't order starters other wise we wouldn't have finished our meals. We were tempted to get something to takeaway as well but felt too full for that.
Lovely staff with a nice range of foods to try.
Pros: music, food variety , best taste
Cons: waiting , not enough small tables (2 person), cold environment

Pizza crunch! - Edit
Generally, I love Mono. When I time it right for the specials board (which I always check before ordering) for something that isn't soup they can have some amazing stews/kebabs/burritos on offer. I love their chips, their pizza crunch (deep fried pizza in batter - it's a Scottish thing and amazing) and their Oreo cheesecake was fabulous - until they stopped making them. :(
Read moreThe buffalo cauliflower pizza is a must, though the tempeh burrito was a bit underwhelming as I couldn't really taste the tempeh. Mac and cheese and garlic bread is delicious though last time I was in the macaroni was really boiling and burnt my mouth. Often they have cake/doughnuts/croissants/scones on the bar and I always check for those as well shortly after arriving.
Every week or two they'll close their kitchen early if they have an event on so I would highly recommend checking their facebook and/or twitter page that day, and their events list on the website if booking ahead. They can be very busy, especially on a weeknight or Saturday afternoon, so I would also advise booking at peak times. Dogs are allowed on the bottom level of the venue.
When large groups are in (I'd say about 12+) it can take a bit longer to get your food while they're cooking food for the large table. Service can be a bit hit and miss at the best of times, so if you go at busy times expect a bit of a wait. I tend to go up to the bar to pay as I can't be bothered waiting for the bill - here or anywhere - so if you're waiting more than 5 minutes for someone to come by don't sit there for 20 minutes then complain about it, especially if the staff are obviously rushed off their feet. Sometimes my order has been wrong, and it makes me nervous when I get a staff member who doesn't bring a notepad and writes things down.
They don't do takeaways.
Pros: Dog friendly, Varied menu , Interesting pizza toppings
Cons: Service variable

Decent fast food style cafe. Friendly staff. Pizza was yummy, especially with a post-wedding hangover! Cafe was a bit grubby and cold. I wouldn't have sat on the sofas which looked like they'd been fished out of and skip!

lovely meal - Edit
Visited today with my partner who is neither vegan nor vegetarian and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Ordered a seitan burger and the "fish" and chips. Never having vegan fish before (battered tofu and seaweed) I was delightfully surprised by both flavor and texture while the seitan burger was cooked to perfection. Highlight for me was the fresh cut chips and the homemade tartare sauce which was absolutely beautiful! Will definitely visit again.

Not good, not even slightly good. - Edit
We ate at Mono today. The food was not good at all. We were thoroughly disappointed. The Greek fava dip was watery and acidic. The soup was worse than tasteless and the artichoke fritters seemed to contain artichokes that had come out of a jar and been battered! Baguette completely uninteresting. Truly dreadful food served by a very nice waiter. Awful food disaster! ?

good good, staff slow - Edit
I was very excited about trying this place. We ordered two rainbow salads as starters. Delicious dressing. I had the sharing platter as a main. Very filling, very good. My partner had the batter sausage and chips, and he thought it was delicious! It was when we were waiting for the check it got a bit aggravating. We wanted to order dessert, but no one came around to clear our plates or ask if we wanted dessert. Then, we thought we could maybe just take them to go, but no. After 40 minutes of waiting for someone to come give us menus, we just wen to the bar to pay. It's unfortunate, because we were planning on coming back tomorrow.

Tasty Burger and fries - Edit
Went here today after a 7 minute walk from St George's Square. Had a seitan burger and vegan ham and pineapple pizza. Really liked the burger and fries (as I haven't had a burger in ages), though I would've prefered a sofer bun, and crispier fries. The pizza went down well with my mum, but thought it could've had less jalapeños and more vegan ham. The staff were really friendly and the atmosphere was quite cosy. Since it's my first time trying a vegan restaurant, it was quite good really.
