Disappointing - Edit
I find it really difficult to find vegetarian as opposed to vegan restaurants so was happy to find Mildred’. However the entire dessert menu is vegan and there were limited vegetarian options on the menu.
Read moreIn addition the menu is uninspiring. Instead of thinking up good vegetarian and vegan recipes there’s just large amounts of tofu on the menu. Why is it at home I can think of hundreds of recipes using veg and pulses but restaurants cannot!
My food itself was disappointing I ordered the stir fry. There was hardly any veg in it at all two pieces of baby corn and two pieces of broccoli a few bits of tofu and then mostly noodles. When you’re charging the prices Mildred’s do for a dish you expect to find the ingredients promised in the dish.
Food is unhealthy and not suitable for children and apparently nothing other than eggs is prepared on site. I took my under one and the only dishes I could get that didn’t include salt were avocado and egg. Everything else is made outside the restaurant. I told the waitress three times I didn’t want avocado as my son didn’t like it but she kept telling me to get the avocado for him. In the end they reluctantly agreed to do scrambled egg without salt.
Pros: There are some veggie dishes
Cons: Overpriced , Lack of veggie over vegan, Poor food quality

WHAT I HAD: Mock Chicken and Waffles with Mushroom Bourbon Gravy; Ginger Pink Juice of grapefruit, pear, apple and ginger
Read moreMildreds – a well-known Vegetarian/Vegan establishment that has a few branches in London. Their menu isn’t extensive, they offer starters, sides, burgers, curries, noodles, rice, desserts etc. inspired by various cuisines (Korean, Middle-Eastern etc.).
One thing caught my eye months ago was the Mock Chicken and Waffles with Mushroom Bourbon Gravy. So, my first visit ever to a Mildreds, I had that for brunch. It was satisfying but didn’t quite hit the sweet spot for me. The mock chicken was juicy and crunchy from the breading, but the waffles was a let-down – it tasted good but I didn’t care for the texture, it was quite soggy and the edges weren’t crisps as a waffle should be. The Mushroom Bourbon Gravy though, WOW. It has nice depth of flavour – sweet, earthy and slightly bitter and smoky. I wish I could have a bowl to drink it! I liked how they didn’t puree the mushrooms and left it a bit chunky. Overall, the Mock Chicken and waffles were pretty could but left a lot to be desired. I did think the portion could be bigger (or they could’ve added some other sides/toppings?) for the price as it definitely wasn’t enough for me.
I liked the bright décor and spacious seating here. It had a fun, casual and clean vibe. Although it’s near Kings Cross, it’s not at a terribly busy area, and was relatively quiet (or could be because I was there in the morning on a weekend). The staff were really friendly and helpful too, checking in with me to make sure I had a good dining experience.
With many other Vegetarian and Vegan places in London, I think Mildreds is probably a safe and comfortable place for many. I only had one dish there so I can’t really make a fair assessment in comparison to other Veg/Vegan places. From my visit and view of the menu, I do think they probably could step their game up. Also, I’ve passed their Soho branch a few times before and there was always a queue! So yeah, I probably need to give Mildreds another try sometime.

Mildreds is always the right place if you’re looking for a nice dining experience. Take the omnis in your life to show them what great things the veggie/vegan cuisine has to offer.

Mildred’s is expensive but it’s incredibly high quality and unique food. Their vegan chicken is the best substitute I’ve ever had! Menu changes seasonally and always has a wide variety of options. Really fresh flavours.

Amazing Vegan Fare - Edit
The food at Mildred's was incredibly yummy and satisfying. Was nice to have the option of plant-based "English food" (mushy peas and a mushroom and ale pie). Finished off the meal with a lovely chocolate hazelnut pudding with a hazelnut brittle and cream drizzle.

We came for dinner on Thursday 16/5/19 and it was super busy but the food quality did not suffer as a result of it - every dish we had tasted incredible! (before it was just alright, which is why we always preferred the Soho branch)

Lovely brunch (but pricey!) - Edit
We came here for brunch before the 2018 animal rights march and had the blueberry waffles with coconut cream. They were absolutely delicious and very decadent! However we did feel that it was quite expensive for what it was, especially considering they added a service charge when there were only two of us, and the restaurant was pretty much empty. I’m not sure we would return simply because there are other places in London which do just as good food for less money, but it was a good experience 💚

very conveniently located near St Pancrass, so I usually end up there before catching the train back to Europe...

It's packed, though, and the staff makes sure you are served quickly and leave quickly. And it feels a bit posh.

Great place - Edit
Love Mildred's. Great range of Tasty, nutritious dishes. My one quibble is that sometimes when dishes are listed as having a vegan option they just mean the non-vegan bit is left of. I found this disappointing and uninmaginative, especially for a vegetarian restaurant. It irks me to pay the same price, whilst not receiving what is usually the most expensive bit of the dish. Throw something else in instead of cheese to keep everyone happy. Rant over! If they rectified this is give them five stars.

Great stop over dinner in Londom - Edit
While having an over 1 hour stop over in London for my Eurostar, I explored this place for (early) dinner. I got served very friendly and fast. The menu has several option including burgers and some (mock) chicken dishes. The far majoritu of dishes is vegan and clearly indicated. I enjoyed a delicious 'chicken' Tandori.

Nice dinner - Edit
Tried the mushroom & ale pie and chick’n burger, both were really delicious. Service was fast but not the friendliest. Glad we went early because the restaurant was almost full already, at 5pm on a Sunday. On the expensive side.

Vegan tortellini! - Edit
Large open dining room with some bar seating, statement purple pendant lighting and an upbeat playlist. Mildreds is now majority vegan (love that this is the menu default, with 'nv' used to indicate non-vegan - the future!) and increasingly accomplished with the meat and dairy alternatives. Wines are also nearly all vegan unless otherwise indicated. Nice touch that tap water is provided on arrival. Exciting to find vegan tortellini - pumpkin with convincing sage 'butter'. Welcome generosity with the garlic levels is set off by the zing of fresh redcurrants. The 'chicken' burger's charcoal brioche bun lends a dramatic visual contrast and a touch of sweetness alongside delicious tomatillo mayo. The 'hot' option isn't that hot but table sauces include Sriracha. Speedy service in a full restaurant.

Seriously tasty food.
Read morePretty pricey.
The sign outside it says "Vegan Restaurant", so I thought it was a vegan restaurant. It turns out it's not, I nearly ordered a dish with cheese thinking it would obviously be a vegan cheese, then found out it wasn't.
Pros: Awesome taste
Cons: Misleading sneaky sign outside says "vegan", Expensive

great brunch (pricey though) - Edit
Really tasty slap-up vegan brunch. Big pile of tofu scramble with large mushroom, smokey beans, sausage, sourdough toast - the meal comes with a toasted tomato but they swapped this for avocado. Oat milk cappuccino. Very tasty but expensive (brunch £10) but I guess that's central London...

Veg*n available late - Edit
Visiting from the US, finally found vegan versions of the sort of food an American thinks of as British. So much of the menu is vegan by default that it takes fewer marks to identify those items which are not (nv = not vegan) or can be made vegan (vo = vegan option)
