Mildreds, established since 1988, operates several vegan restaurants in London. Its changing menu offers British classics as well fusion meals, with example dishes like mushroom pie, Indian curry, lentil burger, tortilla chips and gucamole, burger with fries, waffles, vegan brownie with ice cream. Open Mon-Thu 11:00-22:00, Fri 11:00-23:00, Sat 09:00-23:00, Sun 09:00-22:00. Open 9am - 11pm on bank holidays.

The food here is stunning every time! Only took a picture of dessert, but every dish I tried was amazing. Would recommend getting a few small plates to share. Also to try out the cocktails - they pack a punch and are so imaginative.

I already knew Mildred’s restaurants but I have to say that I loved the one in Dalston. The food was really good, the staff was SO LOVELY (specially the girl with the pink eyebrows, thank you so much!) and the place is beautiful, with lots of light and lovely decorated.

My friend and I arrived with my sleeping toddler, in the afternoon. Only a few tables were taken when we were greeted by a lady who could practise smiling a little more often. We asked her if it were possible to turn the music down just a notch as it was quite overpowering and we wanted to chat and eat in peace. She said she'd ask the manager.
Read moreA lady with a bob, who seemed to be the manager, approached us next and very rudely said: 'well, maybe a little bit, it's on for all the guests!' That set the tone and had I had the time, I would have left at that point and looked for somewhere else to eat. When she came to take our order (after the first lady had taken our drinks order), my friend had trouble understanding her (because the music was loud) and had to ask her to repeat several times. Her attitude was really off with us. When I told her we'd already ordered drinks, her reply was: 'well, I haven't communicated with her, so tell me again.' We told her again and while my friend's order arrived, mine was nowhere to be seen.
The absolute saviour came with a set of bright pink eyebrows. If it hadn't been for her, I'd give the place the lowest rating. She was friendly, kind and up-beat and should be the manager. She clearly understood a thing or two about customer service and even offered to swap out my main dish and recommended something else.
The food was tasty. I wasn't a fan of the noodle dish, so I swapped it for the aubergine dip and the lovely sweet potato, which was a good choice. The paratha was also very nice and I really liked the white chocolate tiramisu.
When the bill came, the first lady returned and was in a rush to get me to tap the card reader and vanish. I only realised after that they'd automatically added a juicy 'voluntary' tip of 12.5% that I would happily have taken off and given to the one capable person at Mildred's Dalston.
Pros: Relatively nice food, One capable member of staff
Cons: Rude personnel, Music too loud, Expensive

I ordered delivery from here a couple times when there were offers and all were pretty disappointing. Tasteless expensive food, either bland or overly spicy, no real flavour to almost any of the meals. Not a fan overall.

Mildreds in Dalston is hidden under some scaffolding and perhaps not very obvious unless you're looking for it but well worth seeking out. The food and cocktails were delicious and the service was very fast - we had a table booked for 8 and were eating by 8:15! Highly recommend the mango pepper burger.

Everything is super spicy. - Edit
Went to dinner, and the menu seemed a bit all over the place with every dish from a different cuisine/country. I was fancying a burger, so I asked the staff which one was not spicy. She told me that every burger was spicy. If I wanted a non-spicy dish, I should select the salad. Seriously? I was not in the mood for a salad, for god's sake. I'm not on a diet, so I insisted and asked if there was any option that I could order without spice. The staff ended up suggesting the kebab, and guess what, it was pretty spicy. They offered to change the plate for me, but I was not in the mood to eat the salad. The desserts are to die for, just the starters and mains are not inclusive and too spicy for no reason. I was wondering if they are trying to hide the flavors or the quality of the ingredients with the excessive spiciness?

If I want to add a tip because the service has been exceptional or because I otherwise want to, then I will. That is what a tip is. It's not for you to try to sneak it on me.
The point of me going to the restaurant - and why I pay the higher price for the food than if I made it myself - is to be served food that has been cooked by someone else. The "service charge" for that is already built in to the food price. Don't add another 12.5% for something I've already paid for.
Pay your staff properly and leave me to tip as I wish.

Had the Sri Lankan curry and it was very good - almost as good as authentic Sri Lankan places, but there's just a lil bit of something missing. I wish I could request a specific spice level as it felt too mild to me, but the achari was perfect. Staff were so lovely and the drinks were great.

We visited between Christmas and New Year, and found the evening menu to have plenty of varied and interesting options.
Read moreWe were a table of three adults and two teenagers, and ordered a different dish each, so tried 6 of the main meal options. They were all very good, even the non-vegan teenagers were impressed. The tastes and textures of the dishes was excellent, and the portion sizes were very good too.
The thing tht let the experience down for us, and why 4 stars has been given instead of 5, was the attitude of the person who seemed to be in charge of front of house. They were sharp and unpleasant with us both on entering the restaurant and again when bringing the food out, as if we were an inconvenience for being there. I appreciate that overseeing the front of house is a busy and stressful role and that there were 5 of us, however all customers should be treated with respect and care, which on this occasion was definitely lacking. The other member of waiting staff was helpful and kind.
The unpleasantness from the staff member was hopefully a one-off. We would return to Mildred's again for the food, though likely try a different location next time.
