Best in London

Coming from Germany, travelling London as a vegan has been quiet disappointing. Its all overpriced and overrated and not nearly as convenient as media reports would suggest. This little jewel is priceless though. Located in a nice flea market that already is worth the travel it is really as colorful as the pics suggest (no editing). All beautifully freshly prepared, nutritious with a huge selection of legume dishes, very tasty and so reasonably priced. For less than 7£ you get a take away portion big enough for 2!!

Pros: quick service, huge variety, tasty and cheap

Cons: seriously NONE!

Fantastic

This place is really great. I always eat here whenever I’m at my company’s London office. The “full house” is essentially a bit of everything they do. And it’s all fantastic. Can’t rate it highly enough.

healthy, tasty, perfect

I love Merkamo Ethiopian food. It is healthy, fresh, tasty and super cheap - £6.50 for a generous portion. My favourites are the gluten free platter and the injera traditional plate.
The staff is super friendly and they are always happy to customise your dish adding any extra you might fancy (make sure you include the soy bean sauce).

Pros: healthy, tastes as gorgeous as it looks , super friendly

Cons: gets busy at lunchtime

Amazing

Absolutely amazing Ethiopian food bowls of awesome! I regularly grab my lunch from here and everything is fresh, tasty and super healthy. Plus, it's pretty cheap for the amount of food you get.

My favourite is the three sauce wrap, but they're all good.

So good I got seconds!

This street food is nothing short of stunning. The colours, the smells and the taste from the moment you spot it in your sights. If you like eating for colour you’ll love it. Even if you don’t, you’ll love it.

Busy lunch spot but we got served in a few mins and there are tables and chairs available to sit at. Fantastic!

great value and variety!

Delicious and hugely filling array of legumes, veggies and injera (served rolled up). For £6.50 you get a huge huge plate with a bit of everything (the 'traditional') and the lady serving was lovely!

What a great introduction to Ethiopian food

So much great, healthy, delicious food, I very quickly went from absolutely starving to comfortably full on this meal. Such great flavours and for anyone who was questioning whether a healthy, plant-based meal could be filling - here's the proof!

Pros: Tasty food, So filling, Lots of different veg/pulses

Cons: Market stall so no seating area

Healthy vegan fare

Didn't expect them to be open as I was half an hour early but they were setting up the display plates. Affordable and flavoursome vegan food compared to a lot of specialty vegan restaurants in town. From broad beans and okra to lentils and couscous... So good!

Ethiopian vegan food is the future

The first time I had ever tried Ethiopian vegan food and what a joy! A lot of different flavours on the plate and afterwards I didn't feel hungry for a few days!! Definitely recommend and now a common source of food when I'm at the market.

Wow!!

Was lured (via HappyCow) by the gloriously colourful pictures and the fact I'd never eaten Ethiopian food before.
Utterly divine!
Inside the old Spitalfields market, this stall has a range of healthy and visually stunning dishes to choose from, and taste wise this is some of most delicious food I've eaten. Will be back again and again!

Pros: Food is incredible., Extremely well priced., Healthy as can be!!

Cons: Absolutely none.

Healthy, varied and delicious

This stall is fantastic!! Large array of salads/stews/curries, served with traditional Ethiopian bread. I also had a coconut dumpling thing (not sure of it's proper name) that was fried. A little bit sweet, but fluffy and great dipped into the sauces
Each plate of food ordered had a good mix of food, with lots of pulses and veg and salads. Nice chilli sauce available to add at the front of the stall - refreshing and tangy, but with good bit of kick!!

The staff were also very friendly :)

Excellent stall that I would definitely revisit!

Pros: Healthy and filling, Good variety and portion sizes, Good value

Feel Good Food

The food is so scrumptious it had me enthralled the entire time. There is such a wide selection it's hard to believe it's all vegan! They treat you so nice when you go there and most importantly it's warm and perfect to take on the British weather

Pros: open space, choice of food, warm

Lovely vegan market stall

Merkamo have got 5 or so options for their takeaway boxes, each displayed as a plate at the front of their stall. This includes a gluten free option. All of them are super healthy and a mixture of delicately flavoured beans, pulses, lentils, or rice in various sauces, with vegetables and the option to add samosas (either filled or unfilled). The injera dishes come with the signature spongey flat bread cut into little rolls with which you can scoop up the sauces. Staff are friendly, the stall is busy during lunch hours but you never have to wait too long. Prices are good too.

Pros: Open 7 days, Well priced, Healthy and tasty food

Cons: Sometimes a long queue
