Menya Shichisai

WOW! What a beautiful and extremely rich ramen with delicious homemade noodles. To top it off, the staff are extra friendly--arigatou gozaimasu to them!

Only thing that was weird to me is the button for the vegan ramen said choice of soy meat or deer meat, not sure if it was a "lost in translation thing" but that made me a little nervous about making sure I got the right dish. After ordering, I pointed to the vegan meat option and said vegan when the nice lady took my ticket and she repeated vegan very joyfully. My meal came out as ordered with TVP.

Overall, this is a VERY delicious option. I LOVE that they have homemade vegan noodles. However, you REALLY need to be in the mood for a rich ramen, so don't eat rich ramen for lunch then come here for rich ramen for dinner...but if you can handle it, go for it! :)

Solid ramen with freshly made noodles

I was thrilled when I saw reviewers saying this place is even better than Kyushu Jangara, my absolute favorite. Having eaten at both now, I would not say Menya Shichisai is better - it's different. Menya Shichisai offers a milky broth with interesting condiments (a mock mince plus crushed cashews for crunchiness) that contained very few vegetables though. The highlight of the dish are the noodles, made to order right before you. I still prefer the broth and condiments at Kyushu Jangara, but Menya Shichisai is a solid choice and the noodles are second to none. My ramen was spiced with quite a bit of pepper. If you don't like your dishes hot, you may want to ask them to add less pepper. A nice touch was that they offer you three amounts of noodles, all at the same price. Pick the one that matches your hunger, without worrying about the price going up.

Pros: Freshly made, tasty noodles

Cons: Very few vegetables in the dish, Amount of pepper may be too much for some

One one vegan option for now, but it's FANTASTIC

Vegan ramen done right. This means the restaurant doesn't aim for anything fancy or original. They just make a classic tantan ramen that even omnivores will enjoy. The soup is rich and thick, and the handmade noodles are a cut above most other ramen restaurants. Prefer this ramen to most other vegan ramen, including the venerable T's TanTan, Sora no Iro, and Kyushu Jangara (though those are excellent, too).

Pros: No-compromise vegan ramen, No smoking, English menu/vending machine

Cons: Only a single vegan option, Potentially longish wait times

Vegan ramen available

I haven't actually tried the vegan ramen bowl, but this ramen place is amazing, high quality broth and it'll leave you wanting more. You can even get a trableside seat and watch one of the chefs make fresh noodles.

Pros: Top quality ramen restaurant

Cons: Only 1 vegan option
