Great for high quality American food - Edit
If u like smothered fries, fried chicken sandwiches, etc then u will be very happy here, the food is all-American but surprisingly homemade. We had the animal fries which were covered with sautéed onions mushrooms pickles, and a cheesesteak and a fried chicken ranch sandwich. Also a dessert which tasted like a homemade snicker bar made with a lot of love plus it was huge. We are in our 50s and showed up on a live concert night, the young people there (cool people) were really into it but was too loud for us so we ordered to go and ate in our car. Liked the hip scene though, lots of vegan people in their 20s out for a night of live music, that’s awesome 😊

Outstanding - Edit
I have been in so many vegan restaurants as a 25 year vegan. This one is outstanding. I had chicken & waffles and buffalo wings. Super nice staff. Wonderful vibe if, like me, you like very casual urban hippie dives.

This place rules - Edit
I've been to many vegan spots touting to be comfort food / diner / greasy spoons, and few have done it well. Mark of the Beastro does it perfectly. The laid back punk venue atmosphere is just what I want all the time so that's icing on the cake. Also the house made seitan on their Beast Salad is so good. While most places make slightly rubbery seitan. MOTB make fatty tender delicious seitan. They should totally utilize that seitan in place of the pre bought may wah drumsticks, because that would be over the top good.

Good comfort food - Edit
This is really good comfort food. The service was great. We loved the Fried Pickles. The Chopped Cheese, Animal Style Fries, & the Waffle were also good. This is a very casual place with a parking lot.

Looks like a dive bar inside and out, but dont let that scare you away. Their menu is awesome! I had the chik'n and waffles and it did not disappoint.

🍟 All vegan with a shady ambiance that could kill. Friendly staff with wicked menu options. You won't sleep on the animal style fries if you know what's good for ya. Not healthy.

Good food with humor - Edit
If you don't eat meat and don't care for jokes like "hail seitan" then avoid this place. However, for the rest of us that enjoy poking fun of that sort of thing and having a 666 address and listening to "dark" music, then this a must try place. Quite possibly the only placed I've dined at that was so dark inside that I had to take off my sunglasses in order to see. Don't even try to wear sunglasses in the restroom. They were out of a lot of things when I went which made ordering difficult. In fact, I almost wanted to leave because it was that bad for choice. Ended up splitting 2 items. Got a big ass salad. The fried seitan chicken that was in the salad was excellent. Just about as perfect as could be. Never thought of using hearts of palm for mozzarella sticks. The breading and seasoning was on point. You'd be surprised at how many get the breading and seasoning wrong. Definitely check out this place.

Cool place, missing ingredients - Edit
I got the Beast salad, and it was missing the mushrooms, onions, and peppers that the menu lists, which was a bummer. Everything else was very tasty and I loved the fried chicken. I will try a sandwich next time. Vibe looks cool, but they’re currently only doing to go orders. Apparently indoor seating is coming back early June (per a sign in the restaurant).

Got takeout from here during COVID, glad to see they weren’t doing indoor dining. Had I gone home to a stove, I would’ve crisped up the fries a bit but my garlic mushroom burger and the fries were otherwise so so delicious!

Amazing! - Edit
First off, the vibe of this place is so different and cool compared to other places we visited in Salt Lake. We ordered 4 wings with their sirbarbalo sauce, chicken n waffles, and the eggs Benedict. All were so freaking good and exactly what we wanted. Definitely will be back and highly recommend to other people!

Absolutely amazing chicken and waffles and buffalo wings. Wish I could’ve tried everything on the menu but the chicken and waffle looked too good to pass up.

Yes, yes, yes! - Edit
How can you not appreciate a vegan place located on 666 State Street that hails seitan? I haven’t had chicken and waffles in many years, and even after the version from Mark of the Beastro sat in a take-out box for almost an hour before I had a chance to eat it, the seitan fried chick’n was still very crispy on the outside. I enjoyed every messy moment of it while I dipped it in maple syrup and vegan butter. The buffalo wings were also fantastic with their house ranch. (In case you couldn’t tell, this isn’t the place to go if you’re looking for healthy vegan food.) Order what you want online, and pick it up in 15 minutes. They aren’t taking orders in person.

Amazing wings - Edit
All of the food we got was good. I repeated my order 3 times and they still messed it up. The fries were cold and I was supposed to get a salad (instead of cold fries). The fried pickles were tasty and the wings were worth the $2 a piece.

Placed an order over the phone and received excellent customer service. Although our food was delayed when we went to pick it up we have no complaints there. The food was delicious. We ordered the Chick'n and Waffles, wings and The Beast salad. Overall very pleased. 100% vegan. 💥

Hail Seitan! - Edit
Hail Seitan. No question, this place has some of the best seitan in the city. Homemade waffles with an excellent fried seitan chix is one of my favorite dishes. Though I think the chix fried steak might take the crown so watch out. Oh the wings and the creative barbalo sauce are a most order. This place rocks.

Awesome vegan DIVE bar - Edit
Gonna put a disclaimer right up front because reading all the previous reviews it seems that people mark off for it being too dark or divey and that they had to order at the counter. It's a freakin DIVE BAR so don't come here expecting something else and then complain about it when it's not a smoothie bar atmosphere and white walls like way too many vegan places. This place has character and attitude, so if that's gonna run you the wrong way, there are plenty of other vegan eateries in SLC.
Read moreHowever for those of you that DO enjoy dive bars (*raises hand*) you're gonna love this place. It's awesome. There's a Nintendo console and old school TV in the corner, board games, diner style booths, a counter, lots of counterculture vibes.
Person behind the counter was super friendly and pointed out the menu to peruse and then come back and order. At first we learned that the fried chicken was out (this was about 3pm on a Saturday) but that a new batch would be ready in 20 min. Yay!
We got the chicken and waffles and the breakfast burrito. Both delicious. The waffle was PERFECT and so was the fried chicken. We've eaten a lot of fried chicken at vegan hot spots around the world and this def ranks up there with the best. Highly recommend especially cuz the prices were great.
Keep in mind that it's a straight edge kinda place which means no alcohol. They also have an event space in the back called The Beehive that has pretty cool shows and events going on!
Pros: Cool DIVEY atmosphere, Good prices, Delicious food

So Random... but good! - Edit
The chicken and waffles were surprisingly tasty. The breakfast burrito was in serious need of a good salsa or some sauce. The staff was very nice to us, but pretty gossipy and salty to people calling in.
