Eastern and Western

A mix of eastern and western menu where it is unique in Melaka. Being a lover of western style of cooking, the place is up in my alley. Co dinners and family gatherings are where we congregate.

Pros: Friendly staff

Cons: Expensive for some

Delicious!

The food was sumptuous, generous servings and reasonably priced, without service/government tax, which is great! Got to try their selection of flower teas which is sweet and fragrant.

Tasty food, unique with flavorful flower tea

Tried smabal fried rice, mushroom noodles soup and 桂花 (osmanthus fragrans) tea. Noodle soup was tasty with seaweed, green veg and fresh mushrooms. The cook replaced mock meat with monkeyhead mushroom upon request. Good choice.
Liked the tea a lot because it was bursting with flavor: osmanthus fragrans flower, dates, chrysanthemum and a bit of Chinese herbs.
Sambal fried rice is spicy hot, on the oily side but tasty nonetheless. No-no for those who can't take spicy food.
Also tried this fried stuff (can't remember name.. Sorry) that came with a special Thai chilli sauce. Both were good as well!

Pros: Tasty food, Convenient location, Good value

Cons: Not vegan-friendly:much egg & milk items

Nice vegan versions of local food in town

Had dinner here on my 1st nite in town! Food was OK but I felt the food in LC was better in terms of taste & value for $. Portions was a bit small for me but the best in the town centre that I tried if you dont wish to travel out of town!

Pros: Nice Food , Friendly Chef/Owner

Cons: Small portions

Carefully prepared vegan versions of local dishes

We first dined here for the sheer novelty of being able to taste vegan versions of local specialties. We came back because we were so impressed with the flavours and textures.
We especially enjoyed the mock beef rendang, Nasi Lemak, mock fish asam and KFC style mock chicken.
And that's saying something, because my partner and I rarely order mock meat.
We find them to be a great transitional tool from omni to veg and then the occasional guilty indulgence (as they're not exactly health foods).

No where else have we tasted such great flavoured mock meats or seen these Malay flavours on a menu. Quite often it's only Chinese style - it was great to see some variety!

The menu is extensive - 168 dishes and counting! Mostly all mock meat based.
The dishes were prepared with care and after talking with the friendly staff (perhaps she was the owner?), I could feel that their heart was really in it.

The place was clean and airconditioned. Atmosphere was the typical Chinesey ketch with colourful flower stickers on the walls and instrumental pop music.

If you love mock meat, you'll be in heaven.
If you don't usually order it - I'd suggest trying at least the rendang and asam pedas for a taste of local flavours.
Or, if you REALLY don't like mock meat, try Veggie Planet or Simple Life - two organic veg restaurants that are vegetable and grain focused.

Pros: Local Malay flavours offered, Extensive choice, Friendly service

Cons: Very mock meat based

Very authentic and exciting Chinese vegetarian!

My partner and I visited Man Yuan Fang several times during our stay in Melaka. At first we did understand how a veg restaurant could be selling so many meat based meals, until the owner, Jean, explained that absolutely everything was made from soya! You have to try it to believe it, some of the dishes look so similar to meat you have to have a real good look to make sure. Everything we had was completely delicious, from the beautifully stir fried veg to the exciting 'meat' dishes and beyond to the wonderful tea's, juices and traditional Chinese drinks. Plus, you get all this for at budget prices!

On top of all this, the staff are always friendly and cheerful (especially Jean!), and it's always busy with happy customers. Even if you're not a veggie, you'll love to eat at Man Yuan Fang.

Pros: Delicious food at great value, Friendly staff, Very authentic and different

Recommended.

To echo all other reviewers, this is an excellent restaurant. Tasty food, inexpensive, good location. The only drawback (to me) was the preponderance of fake meat dishes, however, I overcame my aversion and tried several. All tasty. The food is prepared fresh for you, and if there are lots of customers expect a wait.

Pros: taste, price, location

Cons: long wait for food, fake meat.

Incredibly good!

I think we came back 3 times and didn't bother to try other vegetarian restaurants in Malakka, since this one was so good. They also had a good selection of teas. Only problem - we had to wait quite long every time, because they make every dish fresh. So don't go there if you are starving :-)

Pros: Excellent food, friendly staff

Cons: if it's busy it takes an hour

Great Dining Experience

We
found Man Yuan Fang quite easily with the detailed map available for 5R from the Melaka Tourist Office.

We ate here three times and were hardly denting all the wonderful menu selections. After the first night we allowed
Jin (owner/cook) to make menu selections based on what was most popular with her customers. Each one of them tasted great and presented a real variety.

The herbal teas we tried were all unique and refreshing. The teas are also available for sale for taking home.

It can get busy with its local clientele which is a further testament to how well respected it is in the community. This should also explain why Man Yuan Fang serves the food and drink it does- to meet the local interest not just to satisfy tourists. If you can't enjoy eating here it is not the fault of Man Yuan Fang or your wonderful hostess Jin-whose picture is posted above.

Pros: Food Selection & Quality , Friendly atmosphere, Local restaurant not touristy

Cons: None

Vegetarian KFC?

I wanted to like this place more than I did. It is a very friendly, neat and clean establishment. However over 90% of the dishes on their menu are fake meat based. If you are a vegetarian like me who does not find the thought of eating fake fish, chicken, abalone etc very appetising then you will not have a huge amount of choice. In fact the thought of eating mock KFC is quite revolting...to me. Their set lunch items are quite good value at about 8 ringit, the main dish comes with rice. This place is best for (fake) meat lovers!

Pros: friendly staff, neat and clean, good portions

Cons: fake meat

3 Reasons why to go to Melaka?

1. To have breakfast at Man Yuan Fang (only in weekends)
2. To have lunch at Man Yuan Fang
3. To have dinner at Man Yuan Fang

We already loved the vegetarian food in Malaysia, but this place reaches a whole new level. The food is extremely good! We rarely visit a place more then 2 times, but we have been here for 5 times in a row. If you desire to eat something that tastes like meat/chicken/fish then this is a great place to fullfill your cravings.
The food is cooked fresh and healty and the recipes are unique. The people that work there are really wonderful persons, they are so kind and warm. Everytime we have been there we had a differant tea and they all were a delight.

When we will be back in Malaysia, we will definitely go to Melaka just to visit Man Yuan Fang Restaurant.

Pros: Excellent healty food, Friendly staff, Great tea

Cons: Food was to good, There is only 1 in the world

5-star dining experience

Man Yuan Fang Vegetarian Restaurant can be found one block away from Menara Taming Sari and it's also very close to Mahkota Parade shopping mall.
The chef used to work in the kitchen of a 5-star hotel and you can taste his first class meals.
The menu is very extensive and you will have difficulties choosing what to eat, there's so much choice and it all sounds so tasty. They also have an album with photos of many dishes on the counter. Dishes ranges from Asian, Malaysian to Western and even mock-KFC-chicken. Mock-chicken (soy) is handmade, some other mock-meats/fish are bought, but everything served is made with love. The black pepper sauce, buttermilk sauce and other sauces are all handmade. Anything you order is made for you (with love), nothing is pre-cooked and heated up. Some ingredients and fruits like the organic papayas are grown in co-owner Jean's garden.
Man Yuan Fang (meaning 'the Wisdom Place') offers a 5-star dining experience, but for very affordable prices. The food I tried (went there yesterday and today, will go back tomorrow) is one of the best vegetarian meals I ever tasted. Jean is very friendly and helpful and she checks with her guests if everything is okay and takes time for a chit-chat.
The restaurant looks very clean.
Man Yuan Fang is open 6 days from morning/noon until evening (nonstop). Closed on Tuesday.

Pros: very tasty food, large menu, a lot of choice, very clean

Cons: little cold inside (air condition)

Awesome Place!

We happened upon this restaurant while looking for another one, and we're very glad we did! The owner is wonderful, very welcoming and helpful. Much of the menu is organic and made with ingredients directly from her garden! The food was delicious, and the portions incredibly generous. We ordered three small servings for two of us and had plenty left over for lunch the next day! (Yes, the owner was kind enough to wrap up the leftovers and even threw in some extra rice.) Try the fresh papaya, it's delicious!

Pros: Organic, Local, Delicious

Cons: Somewhat hard to find

A great find

Have eaten here twice, and plan to eat here again before we leave Malaka. Located in Plaza Mahkota, not to be confused with Mahkota Bazaar shopping centre just up the road. Not too hard to find, but a little confusing because of the names.
Small shop (about 9 tables)and is very busy at dinner time. Well worth waiting for though. Very popular with locals. Owner speaks english, and is very friendly and helpful, she has come out of the kitchen to greet us each time we visited. Menus selection is great, portions are huge and well presented. We ordered 4 small dishes(they come S,M,L)for two of us to share, and we could not eat it all. Next time we will order only three, but the choice is so great, it is hard to narrow it down. Lots of faux meat choices, not really into that, but, buttermilk "chicken" is delicious. The only complaint I have is the drink selection. Not much on offer, no soft drinks or bottled water, just tea and 3 juice choices.
Will definetly eat here again

Pros: clean premises, extensive menu, very friendly

Cons: most dishes based on faux meat, poor drink selection
