Vegetarian restaurant situated behind Tyn's Church and one block from Old Town Square, since 2009. Features all-custom wood interior and buddha water fountain. Serves local Czech hemp beer in addition to a varied menu with tapas, daily specials, hot meals, salads, and desserts. English menu is available. Orders of main dishes till 3pm/9pm. Orders of starters and desserts till 3:30pm/9:30pm. Affiliated with Prague's Lehka Hlava-Clear Head restaurant. Open Mon-Fri 11:30-22:30, Sat 12:00-22:30, Sun 12:00-22:00.

To kill some time before heading to the airport we sat down in Maitrea. We ordered two appetizers: the “tofoie gras” with bread and guacamole with tortilla chips. Both dishes were very tasty! I was especially surprised by the smoky tofu pate. The menu had plenty of other vegan options, including a goulash, Asian food and a dessert. Bonuspoints for the beautiful design of the interior!

Beautifully decorated, with lots of traditional Czech foods cooked meat-free. The pate was delicious, and my fake-duck was great. My girlfriend had goulash, which she enjoyed, but she wished it had a bit more of the fake-meat. Great atmosphere, and good service.

If you want to try something Czech-ish, this place is pretty good. The goulash was great, although like a previous reviewer wrote, the vegan option just subs potatoes for dumplings. It’s not that hard to make vegan dumplings, so a bit more effort would make the place great. Vegan duck was ok. Again, it felt like something was missing with “just” potatoes. It’s pretty pricey for what you get.

Food was pretty good, really liked the French onion soup and the goulash was very flavourful but had only maybe 5 small pieces of vegan meat and the rest was just the sauce. Also, the dish is advertised as having a ‘vegan option’ but what they actually do is just substitute the dumplings (half of the dish) with potatoes. If I knew I was ordering a plate of potatoes with sauce I would have ordered probably anything else. Need to be more clear on what a vegan option is - is it a substitution, a complete replacement with something else or just leaving parts of the dish off?

It's a beautiful restaurant with a large menue. I had the vegan gulasch, which was really good. I think they could easily have more vegan options, but still, you can choose between several vegan dishes.

I got the vegan Bún bò Nam Bô but it lacked a bit of flavour. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t anything special.
As dessert I’ve tried the avocado chocolate mousse and even though the concept is interesting, it didn’t really worked for me.
Prices are a bit higher than usual too.
Service was fast but not that friendly. Interior was a bit strange for a restaurant but I guess that depends on someone’s taste…
All by all I don’t think I’ll be coming back….
